Great show. I was reading my WS as you were doing the show.
QOTD: I did listen to you last year and did buy some Bordeaux Futures, to the tune of 12 cases. No, not all were pricey although I did get some Ch. Angelus, Ch. Cos D’estournal and Ch. Branon. The rest were picked up to allow me to enjoy the wines before I get too old.
Also, your persuasive comments about the de Cardinale forced me to pick up some of it which I plan to enjoy with the wife when it comes in.
And BTW, don’t change the intro, everything is working just fine now.

The best that I can do is a six-pack of Nehi Grape soda that I bought in 2005. BUT, yes Gary, only because of you, (as I’m not a white wine guy), I will seek out the white bordeaux. The Louchey might be the one. To this point, never had a bordeaux……. period. Time for a change.

But I have another item to add. You, the Wine Library and the Thunder Show are at the top of my ISO Vino list on Yelp.

QOTD: Position? Butkus. I don’t have any 2005, but I may pick something up if I can. It would be solely because my interest has been piqued and I want to try something different. I’ve never been a huge Bordeaux person–either because I was too broke or too stupid to get involved. I’m still at the point were I’m buying and enjoying wine that I can afford. Quite honestly, bottles cresting $30+ make me cringe. I try to stick to around $15/bottle. With that said, I take copious notes from your shows because I feel like I’m in training for greater experiences with wine. It’s also good to have friends who enjoy sharing their wine and have far greater means than me.

Thanks, as always, for educating and giving some of us something to shoot for!

Good show, love Bordeaux, just went to a 05′ tasting this past weekend and found a monster deal on a Huat Brion that rang in for $16.99!
QOTD: Got some but no where near enough, I’d spend a million bucks on 05’s if I could.

  • I’ve got nothing! I roll with the CKC, but I’m going to a Bordeaux tasting on Thursday in Chicago and I hope to find some nice values.

  • I’m going to be majorly bummed if you really do stop scoring… as I mentioned once, it’s a great relative measure for YOUR palate (and I understand it’s YOUR palate here). After reading and trying various wines that a given critic has reviewed, I will generally be able to tell how that person’s overall enjoyment of the wine is relative to the whole world of wine. Tasting notes are likely more important, but the score is what measures the deliciousness or enjoyment factor of wine, for that person… Sometimes you’ve gone totally bonkers over a wine, being all loud and excited, and then score it 89. If I was going on your reaction, I’d have guessed 92… likewise, you’ve passed on some 91 point ones that were a bit more expensive. So giving us that relative measure (outside of the notes) is important…

Yeah, 2005 Bordeaux is all the rage, and you’ve been talking about it quite a bit over the last two years (and I think you for it!), but I’m surprised you aren’t talking about 2005 Burgundy yet (did you get my email?) All the press I’ve been reading seems to imply that relative to other recent vintages, the Burgundy 2005’s are perhaps even more remarkable… Allen Meadows asks us to sell our spouses to buy 2005 Burgundies, and many people (all who know?) are saying it is THE vintage within living memory (whereas Bordeaux does have a few other great ones (1982 especially))… I’m going crazy on 2005 Burgundies right now (and have answered a few of my own questions since my email to you).

QOTD: Currently have 5+ cases of 2005 Bordeaux. May like to get a few more, but yeah I have definitely seen the prices jump (some I bought at $60 are at $100 now). And it was your shows that first turned me onto the 2005 Bordeaux, but that did lead to a lot more research as well. As I said though, right now I am even more excited about 2005 Burgundy though, so I think any more Bordeaux purchases will likely wait (perhaps until they’re all gone/unaffordable). But I’m definitely glad I have what I do! Also, I only have a couple cases of 2001 Brunello, so I’d probably get some more of that before I jumped into more Bordeaux.

    I don’t have any 2005 Bordeaux.

  • getmeacab

Gary I canâ??t believe you are still pumping (pimping) the 2005 Bordeaux; as if Parker and Spectator wasnâ??t enough. Now everyone will run out and buy whatever is labeled 2005. Please please please keep quiet so those in the know can hoard more.

I was only able to get in on 30 cases January-August of 2007. Now the prices are too high and the dollar is virtually worthless when it comes to French wine. And so for that I have stopped buying 2005 Bordeaux.

    GOOD LUCK suckers!

    🙂

2005 Bordeauxâ??s is the only wines I have bought several cases of for personal use!

I usually never buy cases â?? in a way, to â??forceâ? myself not to drink the same wine over and over again, but rather to try new wines constantly.
