Really enjoying 05s. I did grab a coupel bottles a while back specifically based on yoru advice. I recently have begun to gravitate more toward new world (my Pal is changing), but look forward to letting those bottles alone at least until next fall/winter and have at a good occasion!

Got a case of La Fleur Petrus.
Problem I have with Bordeaux is that you need to wait lots of years to really enjoy it at its peak, and I am an impatient person.

You said it! You finally said it! Sweet fancy Moses, you actually called it THE THUNDERMUG! Kick ass!

Gary, you seriously made my day today by granting my small, and perhaps somewhat silly wish, of calling the big ass glass THE THUNDERMUG. The only thing is, I am a girl and not a guy. But, in the grand scheme of things my gender is really not as important as you calling the big ass glass by its rightful name, THE THUNDERMUG. I urge you to avoid listening to those haters who are dissing THE THUNDERMUG. Let it sit with you for a while. Sleep on it. Mull it over. Eventually, with time and contemplation you will come to understand, as I have, that this is its true name.

    Thanks again, GV!

To be frank…minimal. The least represented varietals in my cellar are cabernet and merlot and therefore not many 2005s. Three if I am lucky!

QOTD: I feel so bad, but the only thing I have really been able to find so far is some Mouton Cadet! I am looking hard. Might just have to break down and order some from the WL website.

  • GV,

Hello…I started watching your program about 20 episodes ago and have to say that you certainly make wine interesting. Before watching, I only had my bourgeois friends, who “thought” they had good pals, to reference my pal to. I’ve even started to pick some of you catch-phrases like “Sniffy-Sniff” and “let’s give it a whirl” when tasting wine. You certainly know you stuff and I have to say I’m starting to get back into wine after now that I have money to do so.

I actually have a question that maybe you can help me with. Is it possible to buy wine over the internet and have I shipped to Florida? Let me know.

    GV:
This was a very cool episode. Please keep up the good work with the light colored shirts. I know I’m a weirdo about this, but I just love how much easier it is to see the color when you swirl it.
I’m glad to see the whites getting some love here, but I’m a little surprised you’ve not talked about how good the vintage was for Sauternes as well…which leads to my answer to the QOTD…

I purchased three total cases of five different ’05 Bordo futures: one of the five is Guiraud from Sauternes. However, I now have a fourth case on the way: I just snagged a case of the Secret. THANKS for hooking us up!

QOTD: I’m rolling in 0 bottles of ’05 Bord. I’m hoping 2012 will be a big year, b/c by then I should have enough money to buy one case of something special.

    My 2005 Bordeaux story:
I bought two cases worth of 2005 Bordeaux (Chat Sansonnet, Le gay, Faizeau) from WL waaaay back when you said, “Buy this now! Buy it on futures! It’s great!”
After August of 2007 WL no longer ships to WA state. So, I had to cancel all my orders. Very sad.
I now no longer have any 2005 bordeaux.

    The End.

  • SQOTD: Rio de Janeiro, Brazil
QOTD: NONE. Any imported wine gets to Brazil with a 100%-500% premium for whatever reasons that is. That is even more inflated if you are talking about a special product (ie. good 2005 Bordeaux). So, a US15 bones (US) 05 Bordeaux could EASILY get to U$90 in here…. no wino, man, no wino.

QOTD: I recently tried 05-Bordeaux. I don’t remember which (I left it in corck’d). I bought it by label and in the upper price range. This wine was really a serious one. ’05 has so much potential. Buy it, test it, even if it rips your wallet!
    SQOTD: Germany.

  • Gary, stop it!!! :o) The 2005 Bordeaux is soooo expensive already and this makes it even worse :o) And all the bottles already in the cellar are too young to be drunk now, mouthwatering shows like this makes waiting almost unbearable.

I have one 2005 bordeaux sitting on my little wine rack, and I’ve had one or two in the past that were seriously impressive, so I’m anxious to find more. With a small apartment and a small budget, it’s not incredibly easy to stock up, though.

  • QOTD: I had the Bordeaux in the x-mas pck, but that is all.

I LOVED the white, and will be looking to buy more of that, if I can find it.

  • I have had a couple stray 2005 Bordeaux’s that I came across in my local wine and spirits shop. Delicious and actually pretty decently priced. Surprise! I’m sure they won’t be around for long.

I have been enjoying 2005s from other regions of France, though, like the Loire Valley…I had a Bourgeil Cab Franc for Valentine’s day that was pretty bomb (although needed a good decanting…RIPPING tannins!)

  • Props on the good call with the 05’s. In Washington State the 05 and 06 vintages are pretty off the chart.

QOTD: I’m on a wine buying freeze so none for me. There will always be good wine to buy. No reason to freekout. If you’re into collecting I vote for the ball cards, comics, and action figures. They don’t taste as good but they’re timeless.

I hope this is the write episode at to the question of the day, lol. My backround is a little of everything and a lot of I don’t know about, lol. I am adopted at birth by an Egytian family and I was raised with Egyptian values although I live in Montreal and sort of combined my own values with Egyptian values, basically I believe firmly in free of will and respect of other peoples lives and choices. Keep wine library rolling 🙂
