Gary, don’t worry about the “haters” as they are called. I’m proud to be a small part of the thundershow! Keep it up brother.

    Thanks,
    Daniel

So, I know the ‘scores’ are not the only reason to buy a wine, but they are the only real measurable way to compare wines. I know it may be wrong to compare wines from different vintages, regions, and grapes to each other, but I may only have so much money to spend… for example, imagine if you were to review an Italian red and Aussie shiraz – I may hear both reviews, and think that they both sound good, but can only buy one. If price and flavor profiles both match my needs, then a score is an easy way to help my decision. I guess it is important to realize it would be only your opinion, though…

QOTD #1: Watching from British Columbia, Canada.
QOTD #2: Just tried to be sneaky and have a bottle of the Chateau Les Secrets De Cardinale sent to my in-laws in Washington State for later pickup, but alas, my first (and most likely last) attempt ordering from the Wine Library has failed due to those pesky inter-state regulations. I’ll have to continue my search for 2005 Bordeaux…

Bought a few 2005 Bordeaux on my limited budget… I do have a fairly good sized group of 2000’s, 01’s, and 03’s so didn’t go too nuts. I’ll keep my eye out for good 2005 buys that will actually hit the shelves near me. Other than that, I’ll be looking for my latest craze, 2004 Piedmont.

Nice show….Always teaching me something GV…..GREAT.

QOTD: I am like MIKE Z IN SD, I have several bottles of differant vintages of Bordeaux. One 2000, about 4 or 5 2003’s, a dozen or so 2004’s, a half dozen 2006’s and only 10 bottles of 2005’s. I do have a few bottles on Future’s ordered but I wish I could find more. I have several grandchildren I am looking forward to drink some of these bottles with as they each start turning 21 over the next 6 to 18 years or so. Can’t wait….Thanks for all that you do GV…..

  • QOTD: I got a 10 bottle wine fridge for Christmas this year and it is full of 2005 Bordeaux. I listened to you GV and I am glad I did. I bought all the bottles in the last 6-8 months and paid decent prices for all of them.

I think I may need a new wine fridge? haha. I live in Arizona so the fridge is the only option as our summers are just brutal and while we have killer AC, its still not enough.

QOTD: I won 3 splits of ’05 Lascombs at auction, and I have a few pairs of splits of Clos Manou, Cote de Baleau, Gruaud Larose, and Lagrange arriving as futures. But, the 2005 futures that I am looking forward to (next month!) are my Ridge Monte Bellos from here in Cupertino, CA.

I like sauvignon-blanc & semillon blends, at least the ones from Napa that I have tried (like Caymus & Provenance). If the price were better, I’d try the french ones.

I’m from Wellington New Zealand. Have bought 1 dozen mixed bordeaux 2005s ranging from Leoville barton, Alter ego de palmer, bahans haut brion, pontet canet to de seuill from graves.
Just had a 2002 Lynch Bages and cannot say I was that impressed with bordeaux. Currently find a BArossa Valley label Thorne-Clark Quartage 2005 a far better buy at $20NZ(pacific pesos) so this 2005 bordeaux better kick butt at $700 for the case.

Thanks for the Canadian heads up!
Congrats on two years, I’ve been watching you from Vancouver B.C. pretty solid for the last 4-5 months and I love what you do. It was awesome to see you taste some wine from my backyard not too long ago(Osoyoos Larose 2003). Keep doing what you do…we love it.

QOTD: Taking advantage of the outer satelites like Fronsac and Blaye. Valrose is a great deal as is L’Hospital, and Citran. I’m digging the 2005, it really is something special.

QOTD: With my frugal ways, and the non-existence of shipping to MA when I lived in Boston when you started preaching about the ’05s, and now with the high shipping costs out to CA and how far behind the curve I’ve let myself fall in terms of buying this vintage, I’ve inly got a bottle or two of low-end Bordeaux. Maybe I can be smart enough to snatch some up at my local French wine specialty shop that has always been good to me with values. Gracias once again, my friend, and NO ONE can say that you didn’t give the heads-up on this vintage time and tine again over the last few hundred episodes.

QOTD 1: I watch from Israel, though I’m an ex-pat with an eye to end up back in the states.

QOTD 2: I’m an overseas student who prefers finding value in kosher wines, so I haven’t really had the time or money to invest in any of the 2005 bordeaux. As the prices seem to be on the getting-out-of-hand side already (and sure to go up), I doubt I will have the opportunity, either. A great vintage may be a great vintage, but if you can’t afford to buy into the greatness, than it’s greatness is still irrelevant.
