I bought four bottles on pre-sale around 35 dollars or so each. this is a pretty big deal for me being 26 and not having a ton of extra to put into my wine obsession. I figure if my blue collar uncle can hold onto a bottle of port from 1941 i can hold on to a few bottles of 05 bordeaux.

By the way i was watching today’s episode at work late after most people had gone home, the guy next to me saw the show and asked about about winelibrary. he’s the first person from des moines i know in person that has seen the show….so there are two of us in the post CKC crowd in Des moines, we’re growing!

QOTD- not a big Bordeaux fan. I don’t know how a viewer could be upset at a recommendation of yours that they tried and didn’t like. After all, palates differ. The value here is having one’s mind opened to trying different wines and increasing one’s wine knowledge. Thanks, GV, for giving us this opportunity every night without asking for much in return except for leaving a comment.

  • shaun

Hey man great show! funny thing right before I saw this episode I had bought a Mouton Cadat 2005 Bordeaux and had foolishly opened it. Unfortunately I should have sat on it because it really was too much for this palate.

QOTD:I never heard of 2005 Bordeaux until Nov 07 so my position is weak to say the least.

GV changing the opening makes some sense but NEVER touch the sign off it’s what you are about. The idea of an A-E-A is what keeps me watching because I had no concept of that side of wine until I began watching the Thunder show….I think it should be a T-shirt……..

  • I am getting really depressed for not buying more, but I was so turned off by the price increase. I know it is an unbelievable vintage but I also can’t wait 10-15 years to drink them. I spent to much on buccella, Bond, Shafer, Levy & McClellan….I did pick up some Pavie, Sansonnet, Cheval Brun. But that little bit won’t last long.

I’m excited for tomorrow’s show!…so what’s gonna happen, huh huh huh?

QOTD: Never bought any futures before but I have 3 of the Valrose and 3 of the Haut Bergery. Can’t wait to give them a taste. That will be the next question when will they be ready to pot 3yrs, 10yrs, 20yrs?

    My inventory:

2 bottles of New to Wine and WLTV and didn’t get your early tips
1 mag of “did he say buy Bordeaux or Burgundy?” when I’m at the store
1 bottle of “I could get 1 bottle of 92 pt from that place that starts with
a B, or 3 bottles of 90 pt from Washington for same price…that’s like
    270 pts to 92!”
1 case of “I thought Merlot was unexciting”…wrong!
3 bottles of “You’re going to keep a bunch of glass bottles lying around
    where?!?” from the missus.

So all I have to savor is some internet videos of GV (and WS) raving about it. But hey, I’m still digging a lot of great wine out there…the best advice is to keep trying new things.

Tonight, to celebrate Obama’s victory, me and some buddies made a jungle juice with two bottles of 2002 Cheval Blanc, two bottles of 2000 Pavie, a bottle of 1996 Mouton Rothschild, a bottle of 2004 Hommage a Jacques Perrin, two bottles of 2002 Caymus S.S., a magnum of 1983 Rieussec, some Lagavulin, a bottle of Grand Marnier Cuvée Speciale Cent Cinquantenaire, Martinelli apple juice, Belvedere vodka, fresh squeezed lime juice, some old Argentinian peach schnapps, and a half bottle of Hennessy Paradis. Very tasty, but… can’t wait for those 2005’s to be released!

Wow… I haven’t had a single bordeaux, and honestly, I won’t be able to afford any of the ’05! Plus, I don’t have a cellar to keep wine in 🙁 Oh well, maybe 2010 will be another great vintage, and I’ll get in on that!

GV-We bought 4 bottles of the ’05 Bordeaux’s. Our local wine shop was going to have a Bordeaux tasting so we were waiting for that to buy more but they haven’t set one up yet. We are just so confused on how to pick them. All we do it look at the score and notes but its so hard to decide. I feel so shallow buying solely on that. We decided to buy the four bottles from different vineyards and then go back and buy the ones we like, but that is already a $200 investment! Please help us pick or better yet can you put a 6-pack of wines together for sale at the Wine Library website? Doesn’t that sound great? Basically its just difficult to pick a bottle of Chateau X over Chateau Y when there are 20 other Chateaus you never heard of in the shop. PLEASE HELP!

Im not rolling deep enough in the wine world yet to have a real stock of anything, lol. As of now, I have about 5 wines from HEB sitting in my 10 dollar wine rack under my hot then cold kitchen window. I am changing the wine world, GV.

  • I am not really in a position to be able to buy and keep any wine, but I really hope my dad has bought some 2005 bordeaux cos that might mean I will be able to try them in the coming years.

As for the second question of the day I am watching from Canada, YA!

QOTD: I just started putting my collection together couple years ago but I bought more in 05 Bordeaux than I have in any other wine category before. I’m a grad student so I don’t have a lot of money but i’ve bought a bottle of clos l’eglise (pomerol), a couple bottles of Beseajour Duffua, a couple bottles of Pontet Canet, and a bottle of Grand Puy Lacoste. Thats a lot for me but I wish I could buy more and now times about up

    QOTD part 1:
I am not in the US of A but friendly with your mother country. I recently took a retirement from my last job and plan on enjoying more wine. I enjoy your video vino show, with a Monte Cristo from time to time and just wanted to check in and give a shout out to the 2005 Bordeaux vintage – muy bueno

    Congratulations on dos anos!
Viva Wine Library TV & best wishes for a long and dominating run.

QOTD: unfortunetly I haven’t spent a dime yet on 05 bordeaux. I’ll end up playing catch up and paying out the ass for it, but it’s been a matter of having money to invest in it properly and get 4-6 bottle lots

  • QOTD: 0. No Bordeaux. Not that I wouldn’t love to have a few bottles…but I have yet to spend more than $20 on a single bottle of any wine. I mean, I haven’t been in college for a couple years, but I am definitely still in that price point. Just can’t afford it. And if I can’t afford it now (unless I get a SWEET new job) i won’t be able to afford it later.

Oh, well. I am pretty happy exploring Washington state, Cote du Rhone and Portugal for the time being. Bordeaux doesn’t have all the good wine. (and since I haven’t had any I can still convince myself of that…so don’t burst my bubble!)
