qotd: how could you not love it? But Tokaji has the q.p.r. all over Sauternes.

Gary- PLEASE Bring back the sniffy-sniff & the energy in the intro!!!! 🙂

  • Deano

Gaey sorry you didnt make it to the 1000 comments. I didnt know you can ship out the cheeses. I will have to take a look. I bought the ann pack so i am stoked about that.

    QOTD:
-No i havent. I am not that much of a fan of desert wines.

  • So if I sit here and personally leave 1000 comments, does that count? Or would that be in the realm of totally psycho, thus negating hte awesomeness of getting to 1000!

Let’s get some CKC action back here! I’m already spending more money than I should, but I just can’t break into the price range of these wines!

Anybody has a spare bottle of Sauterne they are trying to throw out let me know!

    I ALREADY MISS THE ENERGY!!!!

  • We need to get you upset more often! 😉 I loved the show, AND your energy level today… your introduction didn’t hurt my ears, and I really enjoyed the content! Really liked the discussion about the producer here. Spectator scored the 2005 95-100… I may have to hunt some of that down. Its prices don’t seem to have risen too much since the original pre-release price.

I know I know, now you’re going to go really bonkers tomorrow just to make up for it!

QOTD: I do like Sauternes but haven’t had too much of it… but probably my favorite pairing of all time is Sauternes with blue cheese. It is SOOOOO damn good! Do you guys have this Rossini cheese from Piedmonte? It’s a Gorgonzola aged in red wine and wraped in grape leafs. It’s so funky, but has these amazing caramely notes! It is SO DAMN GOOD with Sauternes (or by itself). Go get it!

What do you mean 2001 was only an okay vintage?
2001 was amazing vintage in sauternes!

    Just keeping facts inline.

I’m clueless, way out of my price range.

    Gary,
You have to understand that we obsessive/compulsives just set ourselves up for failure because of our passion for a subject. I have a group called the Wino’s and even though they tell me that they read all my emails, they never respond. So, I know how you feel (all give and no return), but you know how many people you touch each and every day so keep the chin up.

G-man….so depressed today!! 🙁 …..at least you’re not stuck in Salt Lake (cancelled flight into JFK) …..i love the stickies, in fact, one of the first wines i ever had (circa 1987) was a ’59 D’Yquem (I think I told u that when u brought the ’03 to the offline)….i’m desperately trying to keep my hands off my few 1990’s

i think u should have had the sauternes on the b’day show….

  • Dr T from N. Carolina

Thanks for the episode, even if you were feeling a bit down. I enjoy Sauternes, although I prefer 5 or 6 puttonyos Tokaj

Never had Sauterne before. That’s a little spendy for my experimental palate. Can you recommend one that’s affordable for us with a limited budget?

Interesting show despite the somber mood. QOTD: I am yet to taste Sauterne.

Loved all the talk today about the climate issues facing each particular vintage and the analysis of how that affects the wine/winemaking. Also really loved the vertical tasting, and the cheese inclusion. I thought this was a great episode even with subdued Gary.

QOTD: Haven’t yet tried a Sauternes, but I will now.

To: Gary VAAAAAAAAAAY-NEEEER-CHUUUK! A number is but a number. Having said that, and while there is no way I’m splitting with that kind of money for a “sippy-sip” of the C de F, I did enjoy the ep. Have had an occasional sauterne, which I generally like, and am currently drinking a Santa Julia Tardio, (2006-Mendoza, Torrontes dessert wine. Quite nice. I’m feeling a little blue my man, so please step it up.

Your fans are psych…ing you !

We whom have been here……….or uhhh have returned here from two years ago
love you…. so don’t sweat the small stuff; it’s all small stuff, except health!

Remember your own words of wisdom…. if you have health….. you indeed have wealth, and should be very happy!!

    Be happy… don’t worry……..

Lurkers are a tough bunch. They’re those guys and girls at the 7th grade dance who are glued to the wall and watch all the other kids dance and have fun. Screw them…I’m in for the good times.

QOTD: Not a big dessert wine drinker. When I do have a sauternes, I go for the 1/2 bottles.

(Thanks again for everything and another congrats on 2 awesome years.)

Sauternes is great but yes it’s pricey. Gary why not do a show on some stickies from other parts of the world? (2002 D’Arenberg Noble One from Aus is great).

Everyone should check out the roquefort/sticky wine combo, it’s the whole salt/sugar at the same time thing. Like salted and sweet popcorn in the same tub, seriously try it, it’s bizarrely delicious!!!!!

  • bigmay

Cheer up Gary! We love you like family.

QOTD: Thanks for bringing us a vertical of Sauternes. I have fairly limited experience with them but have really enjoyed the few I’ve tried. Most recently I had one (an ’01 but I don’t recall the producer) paired with foie gras in some kind of Moroccan-inspired preparation. Excellent! My favorite Sauternes thus far was a ’90 Suduiraut.
