QOTD: A couple really great wines under $10.00 stand out to me. 1) Snoqualimie 2006 Riesling from Washington. Great stuff!! 2) Montevina Zinfandel 2004 from Amador County. In fact many wines from Montevina are of great value, no I don’t work for them or even know someone there! They just stand out as a value based wine, that put’s a quality from year to year.

    I like the show!

ALSO……. I agree with the person that suggested the other day that you do a show on the book, this will really help drive sales and give us a few tid bids from the book!! MAKE IT HAPPEN, THROW DOWN SOME THUNDER!!

  • Yep.. old schooler here.. Rockin the original band!

  • GV, looking forward to giving the book a read-ee read!

QOTD: The Alamos Malbec that I had a few days ago (from WL, ordered last year). Great QPR at 8 bones.

  • The ’06 Domaine des Corbillieres Touraine (a Loire Sauvignon Blanc) slammed one out of the park for $10! 90 pts for my palate and I like to think I’m stingy with points.

For reds, the ’05 Pago de Valdoneje Bierzo, also for $10, was the first wine I’ve ever had made from the Mencia grape. Very nice, minerally & REAL – no fakey-fake!

Interesting to hear about the Vinho Verde’s, I remember the slightly fizzy Mateus! I’ll have to try one out on my friends. I like the sound of the Taja too haven’t really ventured into Jumillas yet so i’ll have to fix that.

QOTD: Seguret, Les Coteaux Schisteux, Boutinot 2003. I was buying it buy the glass from the Hotel bar where I was staying last Christmas, I made them give me the empty bottle so I could track it down, which I did and bought a case. It was £5:99 – that’s about $10 right? if it’s not, it probably was last Christmas!

To tell you the truth I really don’t recall the last ten dollar wine I liked.
I’m looking forward to testing the two you recommended. BTW the ” sniffy-sniff is become routine whether it’s wine or water or coffee etc…

  • Ok, ok, I’ll comment: I believe the last best under $10 wine I had was Mad Dogs & Englishmen.

J Lohr Cabernet Sauvignon varies in price between $10 and 15 – one of my favorites

A great tasting, balanced wine on WLTV — $8.99 /// A case of wine for under 120 bones? — Under 120 bones, duh. /// “raspberry jam blowing out the nose” — PRICELESS!!

QOTD: Ercavio 2005 Tempranillo Roble, what a buy at $7.99 Too bad the 2006 doesn’t measure up.

QOTD: Considering that there is a liquor control board in Quebec that price-gouges, you’ll understand that a 12 dollar wine here counts as an ‘under 10’ in the states… So I’ll go with a Bourgueil from Nicholas Mabileau. Not as vegetal as some cab francs, but still quite good for the price.

  • Live in Japan where it’s a little hard to really rock the under $10 range. Back when the dollar was stronger I’d go with a wine that came in at around $9 from Tunisia. Forgot the name but it was a pinot noir. Not a bad little bugger for under $10 and pinot. From Tunisia! Under $10! Pinot!

QOTD: El Coto Rioja – great little wine particularly if decanted for 6+ hours

  • Greg B.

Big G, Loved the EP. Just got a bottle of Wall Cab for about 10. Hear it’s nice, so I’ll have to put it to the OL’ GV test.

QOTD: 1st Question. I from the Old School so yes I have Wrist Band #1.
2nd Question: Falseco “Vitiano” from Umbria

  • FT in FC

Probably the Razor’s Edge Shiraz. All of the local wine stores sold out of the ’05s.
