  • Yes, he spilled his wine. Good eye G-Man.

Great show from a great guy from DC!!! Hometown boy.

QOTD: Memorable wine experience with family member? Since 99% of my family does not drink I will succumb to Thanksgiving where I open some of my better Pinots for my brother-in-law who appreciates good wine.

I’ll be buying some of the Dos Bros.

    Dear Gary,

A truly great show today, and it really hit home. I had just gotten home from an eight hour volunteer shift at one of our local cancer treatment centers when I sat down to relax and turned on your show. Wow! You really did a outstanding job on a subject and cause that we all need to learn more about. Alex and Erik have found such a wonderful and loving project to honor the memory of their beloved mother.

One of the things that has especially attracted me to your show over the past year and a half has been your constant reminder of the importance of expressing ones love and appreciation to family and friends. The two of you really drove that thought home this evening.

Thanks to Billingtonâ??s website I have found a local distributer who handles their wines and am going out tomorrow to pick up a bottle of â??Big Tattoo Red.â?

Keep the faith and high standards on your superb and most passionate show.

Very cool episode. I’ll have to seek their wine out.

QOTD: I’d have to say the time my parents visited me when I was living in Europe a couple years ago. We rented an apartment in Oia overlooking the caldera on Santorini, Greece for a few days. Technicolor sunset, local white wine, crackers, cheese and olives…unbelievably beautiful. Then on to dinner consisting of Greek salad, grilled octopus, more wine and retsina.

Had a great father’s day. Love you Pops!

  • Gary! I just plugged you big-time on a community website I’ve spent two years(!!) building. I appreciated your comments about Two Brothers and brothers in general. I just moved from LA to be near mine in Norcal. Check out the shout out at Buy a Bottle, Two Brothers Donates… Peace.

  • Great Cause will have to look for that wine. A Cab goes with my answer to the QOTD: My best wine experience with my family is on a recent trip back home, while sharing a bottle of Cab with my dad brought my laptop to the kitchen table and we watched WLTV together.

  • Hey GV , long time no post. I’m back at it. Great EP, I’ve had this wine and it definitely delivers for the price point and the money raised is a major bonus.
Qotd: I have to say that yesterday rates way up there. I spent fathers day hanging out with my dad and sharing a bottle of Alia Viognier sitting under the shade of an apple tree and just shooting the breeze.

Keep bringing the T-show, love it !

Is it just me or did Alex say that his company tries to update the amount donated everyday or close to everyday? Does not the website say last updated May 1? Don’t get me wrong, I’m highly impressed with this idea of charity (and I’ll be buying a few bottles), but I’d kinda like to see where they’re at right now…

Lovely. A real feel good episode.
QOTD: I love sending a bottle to friends or family around the country and buying one for myself as well. Makes it seem that even though we’re far apart by miles we can share something easy and simple together. What a sap I have become. I blame you Gary.

  • Chris in Tulsa

Love it when you have a guest and always looking for a good value Cab.

QOTD: Drinking an Ice Wine with my daughter on the Mosel River in Germany that I bought from the winery where we stayed in some apts. they rented out.

wow big ups to the “two brothers”, wonderful stuff, I have just bought a case of the stuff. tremendous.

Wine Experience: sitting at the table with my father sipping a 1989 Penfold’s Grange that frankly tasted like heaven, but was nothing compared to the feeling of being with my dad and talking to him as a friend…

QOTD-Can I say that almost every Thanksgiving in the last ten years has been so amazing with wine and family? It is a great holiday for getting together and sharing great wine

QOTD: I took last year off for a bit of travelling (9 months worth) to take a bit of a break between undergrad and postgrad. Included in the wines my dad left behind after he passed away were a few old Penfolds Grange. Most of the wines have been stored terribly for most of their lives and there was a good change they were done for. But shortly before I left, my mum and I took the ’71 Grange (figured that had the best chance of still having some life to it) to a restaurant that I think does the best beef and steak in Melbourne. Although not immaculate, the wine held up astonishingly well to the punishment it had received; powerful jammy and stewed spiced fruits, a rich earthiness and some lovely tobacco notes. Mouthfeel was sublime. And went bloody well with the whole fillet of chateaubriand with field mushroom red wine sauce that was on special that night. A damn memorable meal.

Now thats what its all about man giving something back.. Gary great show and guest. QOTD: Me and my brother Paul had some Los Vascos Cab, I think it was from Chile he told me it was the best Cab he ever has had, I laughed and we joked all night at my dads house, and thats the last time I ever seen him again, he was a good guy and I’ll always remember that time it was awsome.

  • QOTD: My wife and I had the chance to attend a wine dinner with Todd Williams of Toad Hollow that was hosted at my restaurant. We still have a picture of the the 3 of us on our desk in the office. He was a great guy and very funny…which was genetic, as some of you know. (He was Robin Williams’ half-brother.)

  • QOTD: My favorite family wine experience is a tie between two, in fact. One was a dinner at Charlie Trotter’s in Chicago, celebrating my sister’s wedding, which is where I was introduced to Viognier. The second was mere months ago, when my parents were visiting me in Austin, and we went to a wine bar called the Grove in the Westlake Hills part of town. My father and I enjoyed flights of wine there; he drank reds, and I drank whites. They were all delicious.

My folks have always drunk Carlo Rossi red with an ice cube in it. I brought a bottle of ’04 Dancing Bull Reserve Zin over for dinner a couple of years ago. I told them to wait on the ice cube. Gave it to them, and their eyes were opened! They both couldn’t believe how good real fine wine was. It was an amazing experience for me to bring them such pleasure. Now they are always excited to taste the wine I bring when I come over. I just took them out to dinner for Father’s Day and we had a Vouvray, thanks to Gary, who has me convinced to try new things. It was a huge hit with our seafood salads.

QOTD: Two years ago, at 2 AM, after everyone else went to sleep on Christmas eve, I popped a bottle of sparkling wine for my Mom and me and we enjoyed a few glasses while we wrapped presents and talked about the good ol’ days of my childhood. Talk about priceless (although the wine wasn’t – I think it was from Mexico! And it wasn’t all that bad…)

  • QOTD: Tasting a 1988 Shiraz my dad and I made. It was early days and it wasn’t so good in the first few years. Tasted last year, and we were pleasantly suprised at the quality. Small moment, but very meaningful and emotional.

Best was with my wife on our honeymoon at the Chandon Winery having lunch, the reserve sparkling wine, not for retail, that was served with the chef’s appetiser. Right time, right place, right moment.

2nd best with my best friend, our wives were at a spa and we went to the Sinskey winery at 10am; they served mini burgers with their Cab Franc. I never would have tried a cab franc at a place known for their pinot but I’m glad i did — perfect setting, some food and a great wine pairing.

You guys are awesome. That was very cool to witness the birth of a philanthropic venture between two strangers. Touching. Seriously.

QOTD: Sorry to say I don’t drink wine with my family, I live too far away from them. However, my wife and I just started doing blind tastings at home every Friday. She buys a bottle and I buy a bottle and we bag them and taste them. It’s working wonders for our palettes. It’s such a different experience when you remove all preconceptions.
