Two peas in the pod…….Gary and “the couch” on Friday. Thanks for the quick-shot. It’s all the fix I need to get me through to Monday. As strange as it seems, (as I drink wine like a fish), have never had a tannat, (at least until tomorrow). Will look forward to it. QOTD……………..I need to take a major pass. Didn’t know that there were other countries in South American outside of Argentina.

All real men are down with the Tannat. Been loving it for years, you’re right,it makes Cabernet Sauvignon taste like the pink stuff. Believe it or not,it goes great with mussels.

Did you say non-Chile AND Argentina? If so I don’t have a clue. However,
if Argentina is included I would have to say that Malbec you recommended was pretty tasty…you know the one put out by the woman…Susanna Balbo (was that her name?)

QOTD: STUMPED on this one! Oh wait, I had a Mexican Cab. Sauv that sucked. Pure nastiness in a bottle.

  • Ahhhhh, I needed a Laid Back Friday. This week has been brutal so time to pop a few corks and one of them will be my mostest favoritest SA wine. It’s actually a Tannat dessert wine that will blow your socks off. WL needs to get this in the store. Here’s an article from our own Washington Post though I had it on a whim at a wine bar/cafe in Columbia, MD.

    Delicious.

Have a great weekend and I’ll be sure to call my aunt in Tennessee. I have always considered her my real “Mom” who took me in when i was down and out.

    Cheers to LBF!!!

Wow, I think I asked for a Uruguay Tannat show. I ordered a 2005 Bouza Tannat (Uruguay) from the Pennsylvania LCB. I loved it and quickly ordered two more that are in my cellar. It was probably a little too oaky for your tastes.

Gary, love your show: tonight I sipped a Sancerre (tasty, lots of grass and grapefruit, reminded me of a New Zealand sauvingon blanc), now I’m switching to a Gigondas, and I never would have tried either without watching you. So thanks for that. My lovely wife is still sticking with the big Cali cabs, but I’m trying to expand her palate. She knows what she loves, so I’m not pushing her. Besides, her “pal” leaves more of the tasty whites for me! QOTD, I’ve had some tasty selections from Uruguay (white varietals), but it’s been a couple of years so I forget the brand. Keep up the good work.

The lighting is alot better in your laid back Friday set. I can actually see your eyes! In the regular table setting you look like a racoon!

    Smell it first!

Hey, thought you were on a cruise! Tonight I”m sipping a Garncha – Las Rocas de San Alegandro 2005. A nice little wine from Spain. Good price performer (not a lot of bones). The nose is sooooo Garnache! Nice. pepper smells with a berry, light. Tastes of light fruit – like you are licking a fruit, not putting it in your mouth. 88 points.

Tannat? Where do you find these things? wow. Makes Cabs phhhthh! Another wine to find. cool. $12? I’ll put four in my basement! (it’s a closet actually)

TGIF – only two more work days until Monday! phew.

No secret packs? My neighbor is doing the next one, ghez, they got off cheap!
    haha.

When you end the call with a family member: tell them you love them.

South America – Walnut Crest. CAb.

    Loved the MOTT ending. fun.
