The first episode I watched of WLTV was when it started to show on Revision 3, and your super enthusiastic intro hooked me. Also the blind tasting shows are awesome.

QOTD- Kroger has lots of Yellow Tail and Little Boomey, sorry but the liquor store next to the Kroger is like being held at knife point for almost the same exact wines.

Hey GV, another fun blind tasting.

I totally agree with ScottS and his comments about the Thorn Clarke Shotfire (I grabbed a handy bottle of Australian Shiraz from the wine rack when I saw the show theme and that’s what I was drinking as you sampled your wines). The ’06 Shotfire is really too hot with noticeable alcohol; a shame after the ’05 was so good.

My recent favorites have been the Penfolds Bin 389 which brings some great flavors and aromatics and doesn’t break the bank at around $30.00. For special occasions the Amon-Ra was outstanding but I believe I tried it more than 6-months ago…

On a SOUR note I was really disappointed the Washington State Legislature did not approve SB-6384 which would have allowed us to receive shipments from Wine Library again. Now that it’s election time again I’ll be looking for the names of those members who were on the committee and voted it down!

  • QOTD: Probably Lindemann’s bin 50 Shiraz, for around 6 bones U.S. (I’m a cheapskate, what can I say.)

Question for GV. Have you read the book “The Wine Trials”, and if so, what do you think of it?

QOTD: I think the only Australian Shiraz that I’ve had this year is Yellow Tail. Only because I’ve been trying grapes that I’ve never had before like Tempranillo, Malbec, Grenache, etc.

  • QOTD:
I haven’t had a Aussie Shiraz since i’ve been exploring other wines particularly white wines.

Loved the show. Don’t think I’ve had an Aussie Shiraz in the past 7 1/2 mo. Actually I did taste the Branson at WLTV Mar.29th party, Aside from that, it might be 1- 2 years. Closest thing was an Australian grenache–Tir Na Nog.

    Nice episode as usual.

QOTD: not the past 7.5 months; however… 2002 Penfolds RWT Barossa Valley Shiraz (93WS). Absolutely delicious. You need to try it, maybe you’ll like it better than that grange.

Had a Hentley The Beauty and man was she seductive. Obvious fruit bomb but elegant and refined. BCH has always impressed though.

What about Mollydooker Carnival of Love?
QOTD: Wolf Blass Shiraz Barossa Gold Label 2005, and Platinum Label 2002. If I remember corrctly we preferred the Gold Label, but I think th Platinum was still a little young.

Funny: did a blind tasting at our house Christmas Day 2007 just like this, but used letters (A, B, C) so that my tasters didn’t think the ‘1’ wine was the best and so on. Had 3 wines; told our panel of 2 male judges to just pick what wine they wanted to drink at dinner–not to necessarily pick the best rated. Wines were opened 40 mins prior to tasting, poured-off in nice stemware. The candidates in brown bags: 2006 Mollydooker Carnival of Love #8 in top 100 (WS95); 2005 Schlid Barossa #16 (WS93); 2005 Two Hands Barossa Bella Garden #5 (WS95). I put the bottles in the bags myself while my eyes were shut and did not know what wine was what. I gave no input other than these wines were rated #5, #8, #16 on the WS Top 100 list. After 20 mins of sampling …. Survey Said: Mollydooker COL. We then had a nice turkey dinner & downed 2 bottles. To finish the event: Dow 1994 port. The finish on the port had me dreaming for days…

QOTD: 2006 Mollydooker COL also the Branson Coach ’04 (from GV’s store).

QOTD: It was one of your recommendations, the 2005 Water Wheel Shiraz Bendigo. I really liked the caramel on the finish and I thought the fruit did a good job holding onto the alcohol.

    I love the blind tasting!

QOTD: For everyday – Kangarilla Road. Tastes great and it’s fun to say! For special occasion – Cape d’Estaing. Gotta love Western Australia for balance.

Here’s a question for you my friend: You often speak of the mid-palate. I’m trying to develop that sensation. Could you recommend a couple of wines that have a huge mid-palate and a couple of wines that have nothing in the middle? I’ve love to get them and start the education!

    Keep up the awesome work!

    Great Show!!!

QOTD: Favorite recent Aussie shiraz is probably the ’05 Torebreck Steading or Torebreck Woodcutters. I was also lucky enough to try the ’06 Glaetzer Anaperena (sp?) and loved it.

QOTD: Last 7.5 months . . . actually haven’t had an Aussie Shiraz of late! Great show Gary! Love the blind tastings and the head-to-head battles. Looking forward to seeing more “live” shows (shot within the past couple of days). Fantastic Phelps analogy! GO USA!

  • I am just one of a million new Jets fans, but I have always liked Shiraz. Great show. I will send a T-shirt and a bottle of my own Zin. Been watching over a year yet it’s my first comment. I’m a long time lurker. Keep your show like it is. It’s perfect. Erie, Pa’s #1 Fan.

Yay, blind tasting! Not ashamed to admit I like the Yellowtail Reserve Shiraz (for a more balanced wine), and for pure hedonistic pleasure, the standard Yellowtail Shiraz-Grenache…wow, fruit atom bomb and only 13.5% alcohol.
