QOTD: Dead Arm for sure. I agree with GV in that Mollydooker can be over the top but Sarah and Sparky are some of the nicest wine folks you can imagine .
This has to be one of my favorite shows thus far.

  • GV – I agree with a number of posts here – I love the blind format. A lot. Fun as hell. QOTD – I bailed on OZ a year ago, too much fruit and too big. But you’ve inspired me to revisit…

Love the blind shows. Would love to see another one with $15-$30 Aussies.

QOTD: Haven’t had a ton lately but my two faves have been the 2005 Jip Jip Rocks from the Limestone Coast and the 2006 Tait Ball Buster from the Barossa Valley (92 pts RP). Both are under $20.

QOTD: 2005 Flinders Run Shiraz. Blew my socks off. Probably a little oaky for you. Loved it, and a steal at ~30 bones.

    Great show!!!

The blind is where it is at. I would love to see you rate the wines like you normally do, then rate them blind a couple of months later and see the difference in point value. See if you are swayed by label bias (which I doubt).

QOTD: You just made me realize that I haven’t had an Aussie Shiraz in the last 8 months. I used to drink them all the time. Time to go back and try them again.

Great show. Haven’t had time for Aussie Shiraz recently. Too many other things to explore. Although, I have to say that I’m starting to sour on the pickle juice wines, so maybe it’s time to go back to Australia.

QOTD: 2006 Mollydooker Carnival of Love was delicious.

The ’06 Enchanted Path is very young. Was the bottle that Gary tasted shaken to get the nitrogen out? And, I wonder how long before the tasting was the bottle opened – I’ve found that some breathing makes a huge difference with these young wines.

My best Aussie Shiraz of the past year would have to be the 2007 Torbreck Woodcutters Shiraz. You get the great fruit flavor that normally comes with an Australian Shiraz at an equally great price — about $20 a bottle.

Great show Gary! good shot with the paper bag! I also love watching the blind tasting shows… unbiased opinions are the best!

QOTD: Just had a really bad Aussie Shiraz, which is odd since in my experience they’re usually great. Anyway, that’s the only Aussie Shiraz I can remember that I had in the last 7.5 months, so i’ll just keep that name to myself. I do really like the Black Swan shiraz even though it’s a mass-produced, cheaper brand – it always delivers for me.

No question hands down the 2005 Shirvington Shiraz (95 pts by me on cellartracker). The Cab is even better.
