    Great show GeeVee!

QOTD: Haven’t drank a Aussie Shiraz in a while…was drinking the California Shiraz from Big House, The Slammer for a while there, but that’s cause I could get them at 5 bones a bottle. good cheap juice. My PAL isn’t feeling the Syrah right now though, zin, cab franc, sangiovese, sure…but just getting bored with what I have in my little stores.

  • LOVE the blind tastings! I have not had too many Australian Shirazs, but most I have had, I didn’t really love.

Liked the comments about changing “pals”. Happens to me as well – wines I used to like then, now, . . . not so much

QOTD: 04 Tapestry “the vincent”. Had it at a tasting then bought a bottle. Should have bought 6 as I cannot find it anymore. Was slammin.

Any chance the Hardy’s might have evolved towards a bit more balance, since it is 8 years old?

My favorite Aussie in the last 6 months — 2004 Kilakanoon Killerman’s Run Shiraz Grenache 2004 60% Shiraz 40% Grenache. Great episode Gary! This is the first one I’ve watched.

    Lurker alert!

Great show Gary – love aussie shiraz.

QOTD: Mitolo G.A.M. 04. Awesome. And – a buddy just gave me a bottle of an aussie shiraz called Sheeraz (’98). From Limestone Coast. Says its awesome and I’m going to crack that bad boy tomorrow. This show got me in the mood…

Gary – i went to Eisenhower Middle School and Roxbury HS. But I graduated in ’92 so I just missed Santana, although he moved there in like 89. It was HUGE news back then.

  • QOTD: I’d have to say Torbreck Woodcutter’s Shiraz.

My palate tells me that I don’t favor shiraz, so I don’t plow through many of them…

Great show. Being currently in Australia does help in drinking good Shiraz. For me it is the 1999 Rockford SVS, Flaxman Shiraz from the Barossa Valley

  • Very, very nice show. Incidently, I’m in the aussie shiraz mood myself, and we’re invited to a nice big BBQ a week from now, and I’m bringing the 2005 Turkey Flat. Other than that, again, Concepcion and I have signed up for the Cruise. We’ll be there.

Thanks for revisiting Australian shiraz. These 4 wines show the wide range of styles being produced, making generalizations impossible. I just got a Branson Coach Rare from WL. It sounds great. BTW, your $60 price is $40-$50 below the going rate for that wine. Such a deal! Agree about Marquis-Philips and their wines. Try their 3-Rings shiraz. For $15 it’s really good. The 2000 Eileen Hardy shows how much these wines will change with bottle age. The ’95 was James Halliday’s WOTY and I’m just cracking them open now. The Schild sounds like a double-bagger. Put one over your head, too.

QOTD: My best shiraz in the last 7 and a half months? Gosh, I had a really great one 8 months ago. Does that count? I really enjoyed a ’98 Jasper Hill Georgia’s Paddock. Again, more Old World style. More recently, the ’05 Dutschke St. Jakobi was great (another WL deal-a $40.00 wine for $25.00). It will be better in 7 years, though. Let’s hope we all are.

My QOTD: Do you change your tablecloth color to beige when tasting white wines, just in case?

QOTD: Torbreck – “The Factor” absolute monster, so good I was speechless for about 10 seconds, it’s a strange wine though, the attack is soooo HUGE and lasts soooo looooong, it almost doesn’t have a normal mid-pallette – instead the attack lasts forever, right over where most wines would have a mid-pallette – normally I hate wines that are just attack and no mid, but because of the attack’s length and complexity, on this wine, it’s not really a problem: lovely endless finish as well –

Otherwise? Mt. Billy Shiraz – awesome, complex, delish …
