I’m really impressed that he doesn’t have a chard by the glass on there. Good for him.

Giddy up Gary!!! I like the idea!! Keep up the good work.

  • Smahlatz

Oh – The wine list scoring, especially for someone not into scoring, I think is a step too far. I’m sure the Vayniacs can draw their own opinions.

… just finished throwing up after getting sea-sick from the camera work. Concept is kind a neat, but the execution was sloppy.

  • Kiiiiillllllleerr EP Gary! Great atmo, great list and 2 great guys! Unfortunately the wine-lists in Germany are so poor, only the high end restaurants have some nice wines on their lists… but mostly only bottles.

Great show Gary, I am sure you will work out the technical stuff (Camera movement and focus issues) Loved the concept.

    that sucked bigtime 🙁
no way to read this wine list…
    no content, only big boredom

  • Deano

Gary I really like this format. You should do it wherever you travel to a restaurant 🙂

Great idea, I enjoyed this show – though the camera was pretty shaky…

A few additional suggestions 1) set up a corked-type site for restaurant wine lists 2) do an episode about how to order wine in a restaurant (including etiquette, what to look for overall, expected service, values, byo policy)

  • TommyBoBo of WI

I think we are going to like this format also,,,, but rein in the back and forth action,,,,, damn near puked on the monitor…… 🙂

I love the Blair Witch shout out. All you needed was to do this in B&W. Did need some motion sickness pills from the shaky camera work. Maybe the Vayniacs should pass the hat for a 21st century hand held camera.

Like most, I enjoyed the format and expect that the execution will work itself out. Nice.

Public sounds like a great place.
QOTD: No star varietals; it’s all about blends. I like Domaine du Tariquet’s blends: chenin/chard, ugni blanc/colombard, chardonnay/sauvignon blanc

    Great, great show, Gary!

Please do more of these. It’s an awesome idea for a show. More than just restaurants, it would be cool to review all the places you can get wine.

It was not bad for a first-time, dry-run show. Definitely need to reign it in and give the episodes a little more focus, perhaps find a way to slow down the show a bit and focus on more of the highlights from the list.

    Other than that, well done!

Look forward to more shows in the future.

Whoooa Boy! S l o o o w D o w n ! Had to take a Tylenol after this episode as my head hurt. Gary, watch your video after you record it. You may see a rushed pacing. You may see yourself talking over your guest. You may see yourself ask a question, then answer it. You may even see Blair Witch type cinematography. Lastly, know when you have a good product (thing), and keep it. Some say, don’t fix it unless it’s broken. I still love your shows, especially the older ones. I still log on with anticipation every weekday, and are disappointed on the days with no episodes.

Love this concept. What a great way to write off eating out! We have a Flip Video too… that’s what we do all our Vivian videos with.

Neat idea – I am always interested in what folks have as a wine list, even if there is no hope that I would ever be in the area to eat there, etc. The video was pretty rough in parts – but I think you’ll get the hang of that with time…

QOTD: Does it have to be a varietal? Because I’m leaning towards Rhone style white blends…

One idea for you, GV, when reviewing lists… do two tastings. One of the restaurant’s choosing, one of yours (preferably wines you’re not so familiar with). Also, if you bring a buddy with you to hold the Flip Video that would be great. We can’t really see the wine list itself, so it’s not so important to point the Flip at that, but if you choose to do that, maybe point it vertically so that we don’t have to read the list sideways (no pun intended).

I like the idea and the way you have new shiz all the time! The shaky camera reminds me of early NYPD blue!! Vertigo up the wazzu!! But cool stuff.

QOTD : I have no idea what the masses will like but i’m digging on some variatiels I haven’t had much of like siegerrebe, new & old world rieslings, gruner vieltliner, unoaked chards, and more sparklers!!
