2005 Sanford Chardonnay La Rinconada. Looking back at my tasting notes I just don’t drink much Chardonnay anymore. Too much of the oak monster lurking out there.

So sad about Mssr. Dagueneau. He crashed in his ultralight. All the Loire, and France, I’m sure, mourns today. QOTD – Mer Soleil used to be, but seems to have changed with the passing of the torch. I think the best are guys like David Ramey, Patz & Hall, Hyde-deVillaine. If I could, I’d get me some Fisher Mtn. Estate.

Is that a new wrist band, or did I miss something?

The REAL QOTD should be how can we get one?! 🙂

QOTD: haven’t had any chard in quite a number of years… i was so put off by the over-oaked CA wines of so long ago that i’ve been hesitant to put myself through that again.

But now I’ve gotta seek these out! I just hope I can get them in GA…

  • Mark

I saw the band as well. Couldn’t quite make it out though. But definately new.

  • Umm…

The only Acid Heads I’ve met were a little bit spacey. And, by a little bit, I mean full on out of their minds. Then again maybe the acid heads you come across at Bonaroo are of a different breed than you’re talking about!

  • My favorite Chardonnay was the one I had sitting in my favorite bar in Montpellier chillin’ with my uncle and looking at the hot waitresses!
    It’s all about context, man!

Thanks for yet a good show – huge fan of white burgundy!

    QOTD:
Was a bit blown away by the quality of this chard. from southern France – in generel it is amazing to see the rise in quality thats happening, in several of the southern regions.
    – Abbotts Limoux ZEPHYR 2006

I hope you are able to find it 🙂

Hey, what’s that green wristband all about?

QOTD – I haven’t had a lot of chard in the past 6 months. I did really like the Gunn Estate from the book. It was crisp, clean, fruity, and nice drinking by the lake during the summer…

  • Daugeneau died in an ultralight accident. While interesting wines, they were way over-oaked for me. I’m not a fan of Sauvignon Blanc and oak.

Elyse limited release Chardonnay is my best lately though I have had a few Chassagne Montrachet’s from 2001 lately that were killer bee.

QOTD: I can’t think of a chardonnay I’ve had in the past few months that was so great it was worth remembering. Really been trying to expand my palate and try as many other varietals as I can. Guess so much chardonnays are so much the same and predictable that they lost my interest a while ago. Have to admit the show has sparked an interest to try the two good wines on the show. Amazes me all the rows and rows of chardonnay wines I see in stores. Rather find the dusky back corner of the store where more interesting wines are to try. Good show!

OMG, Didier died?!!! Thanks for that info. Never had them, but I’ve heard them to be strongly oak influenced relative to other Sancerre’s.

Yay! St. Veran! One of my first happy wine memories was having a delicious wine from this region. I think it was Le Roches Pointues or something like that.

Chardonnay does not do it for me. Maybe because I have had mostly over oaked chards, none of which I care to remember. When I am offered white wine I go to beer instead. The only times I can recall enjoying white wine is when it was correctly paired with food. I think I prefer red wine because I also prefer beers with bigger, bolder flavor and aroma profiles which I liken to red wine. It might also be because I am a major carnivore. To me white wine is like drinking lite beer, I don’t. Is that narrow minded or is that just my palate?

What’s with the Jets colored wristband?

What’s that green thing on your wrist? I notice you didn’t mention it. For us old timers that have all the wristbands, is this something we need notice on?

I’ve been drinking the Hubert Lamy St. Aubin La Princee ’05
Not as rich as the premier cru Les Frionnes, but a great village burg that has a lot of transparency. A pleasure to drink.
