we all know my love for white burgs, and burgs in general. Thanks for the show, its been a while since I’ve had a st veran

QOTD: Chardonnay scratches me where I itch in general, and the last one that put me in a full on happy place was a 92 Latour Puligny Montrachet Les Referts

How cool that you choose Saint Veran when I purchased a Saint Veran “Les Chenes” 2006 as part of a tasting exercise. I appreciate your comments, (as always) and hope this wine is as good as the ones you have tasted.

QOTD – Of the ones I have tried so far, I have enjoyed the Kim Crawford Unoaked Chardonnay and the Toad Hollow unoaked Chardonnay, far more that others.

I have obtained, in addition to the Saint Veran, an Macon-Fuuisse 2006 to compare with Franciscan 2006 and a Gallo of Sonoma 2005.

Another region I know dick about. Thanks for the lesson.

QOTD: I’m liking chards from Chile and South Africa lately. Big, round, and plush w/out the excess butter and flab.

QOTD: for sure my favorite chard over the past year has been Smith-Madrone from Napa, California. Of course that could be because one of the owners, Charlie Smith, spent about an hour giving me, my wife, and my friends a private tour this past May. His cab is tasty too, and the riesling lip-smacking.

Keep up the good work, Gary, if you find a good restaurant or wine bar in the Gaslamp district of San Diego, let us know.

I love Verget wines. The 2004 Chablis was awesome!
QOTD:I haven’t had one in a long time, infact I don’t remember the last time I had one. I only drink chardonnay from burgundy, because if I’m gonna pay chardonnay prices I want a good one! Not that flabby crap that they make in California.

  • Gary, I think this was one of the better episodes in a while. Simple yet back with a lot of useful information. Throw in a new region and type of wine and you have perfection. Thanks. I will definitely be trying this wine.

Hey Gary, It’s your old mate Sammy S from down under….To answer your question of the day – The chardonnay that I love drinking is one not from Australia – but one from the Central Coast of CA. Arcadian ‘Sleepy Hollow’ Vineyard 2005, That wine was an absolute cracker….and Im going to have another bottle very soon…It was a very full bodied, rich oily Chardy…nice oak balance but no to much..you should try it. Cheers Sammy S, ‘Spreadin the THUNDER….Down under’

QOTD: Don’t remember the vintage, and it’s been longer than 6 months that I can recall drinking a Chardonnay, but I loved the Newton unfiltered Chard —must have been more than 2 years ago. Bought a bottle of the Fisher Whitney’s but haven’t tried it yet.

QOTD: Haven’t had Chardonnay in more than 6 months. Sauvignon Blanc ruined it for me. I remember the last Chardonnay i had was a 93 point Chilean bottle (don’t remember the name), and it tasted like it had a burnt ham hock accidently dropped in it.

Hmm, I am really not into the Chard’s these days, so I can’t remember the last one I had. But I do like Burgundy more than Cali as far as that goes.
