QOTD: I have yet to have a chardonnay that tickles my fancy, they just aren’t bringing the thunder for me, but I’m sure there’s some out there worthwhile. Have to try more.

  • QOTD: Well-timed episode for me since I am in a tasting class and last night we covered Chardonnay! While I’ve never been a great fan of Chardonnay, and never had a Chablis, the one from class was by far my favorite. We tasted four. California Chardonnay, Australian Chardonnay, Argentina Chardonnay, and French Chablis. The differences were revealing! My favorite, as mentioned, was the Louis Michel & Fils Chablis 2005 … just loved it! And very inexpensive ($16 here in PA).

I love White Burgudies !!!! If i could afford to do so, i’d do them 75% of the time. I guess the Oak Monster was not present today?
QOTD: Newton Unfiltered Chard, white label.

  • Gary,

hope you enjoy your visit to San Diego. Hope the Jets win. 🙂

QOTD: I am starting to get back into Chardonnay after years of being afraid of it. I’m still searching for a really good one.

  • QOTD: I suspect this marks me as a philistine, but I’ve yet to find a chard that does anything for me. That said, I could count on a few fingers the number of $10+ bottles of chardonnay I’ve tried. So here’s what I’m wondering: are there serious, schooled wine enthusiasts who simply don’t find chards, as a group, appealing?

    Gary –

Very entertaining show! Love the contrasting styles of the last two wines. True to form, you emphasized trusting one’s own palate. I have tremendous respect for your integrity!
I too am wondering about the green wristband! Found myself focusing on it sometimes. Is that the Statue of Liberty holding up a glass of red vino?
QOTD: Actually haven’t had a chard in a looooong time. As far as white wines, I’ve been going with Riesling, Albarino (thanks to you and the WineLib!), Vernaccia (also thanks to you and the WineLib!), Sauvignon Blanc, and Rose.

Good show … I really liked it.

QOTD: Not a huge chard man, but I’ve been enjoying the stuff from margret River. especially Voyager Estate

QOTD: I’m not a big fan of Chards but i always have some bottles for certain foods. The one that i’m stocking up is the Columbia Crest Grand Estates 2006. At $8, a great value. I love that is not over-oaked and has the typical profile of Chard, with great weight and finish.

  • Very nice show Gary! The best chard I’ve had in the last 6 month was the 2004 Michel Picard Saint-Aubin 1er Cru Le Charmois.

    Cheers from Germany!

Leyda lot 5 wild yeasts, san antonio valley, chile ’06, domaine de chenevieres ?l?homme mort,? chablis ?06. I’m into these now, but honestly I really like chardonnay, It’s particular styles of wine making I have a problem with.

Always thought the wines of St Veran were thin and shallow, but will try to find the last 2!

My Chard of the moment would have to be Beringer Private Reserve 2005 : a wine that I used to stun my French in-laws at dinner this summer… Great bottle for arounf 25-30USD…

    All the best from Paris,

QOTD: Since I generally don’t drink much Chardonnay, I’ll have to say the 2005 Robert Denogent Pommards Saint Veran that I had last week. The 2005 was 19.99 in Delaware.

This spring and summer I made an effort discovering more white wine than other years. Expanding my palate, trying new things!!!!!!!

  • QOTD: Gary, I have never had a tingling Chard. I just can’t seem to get into any whites. What do I do?

  • Alastair

Really liked this show being a big Chardonnay fan myself; I like the sound of the Robert Denogent effort in particular (for my palate).

Favourite Chardonnay right now is Wild Boy from Jim Clendenen at ABC – a big flavoured wine for sure.

I am going to a wine tasting tonight here in Edinburgh – all wines from Dancing Coyote out of Clarksburg, CA. Should be fun although there’s no Chardonnay on offer.

    Best wishes,

    Alastair

  • I am still trying to expand my palatte with Chardonnay wines, but so far my fave is a limited production wine from Wine Shop at Home. Sunfish Chardonnay, 2006 I think.

it is always fun to explore burgundy and the not so known villages. in france, a st veran, auxey, or st aubin is more likely to make an appearance than the big boys because they are good wines at better prices.
QOTD i actually have not been drinking so much white burgs or chards recently. i had a marsannay a few months back, 06 from domain boillot and it was not so bad.
side note. good job on mentioning didier. maybe that can be a show in the next week…. breakin out the good stuff. maybe some of his heros too. that would be sweet. i have been hesitating to splurge and buy a bottle of 05 pur sang, but i might have to do it now.
    have a good weekend

big question; I have had so many quality white burgs lately; none have disappointed; 05 or 06 (let alone the spectacular 02s!). One of my favorites is any premiere cru Chablis from Verget; easy to get; good price point; never disappoint! razor sharp and always nice mid with great length. enjoy!

  • QOTD: my most recent chardonnay memory is a wine that some friends brought us with a meal when we had a baby this summer. it was a chardonnay mix, and i don’t remember what else was in it… but it was not good. at all. bland city. Beyond that, I did like a gallo of sonoma chardonnay that i got at the grocery store one time.
