This zork thing looks like the same kind of closure used on a liquor bottles. Grey goose comes to mind. I’d rather just use a screw cap.

Zork, screw top, cork, they will have an a bad day now and again; it is what is in the bottle that matters.

I say thumbs up to the Zork!!!.

QOTD: Yes I have had a Zork wine from Binny’s here in Chicagoland.

    Great show.

QOTD: I like the Zork. I’ve used them on Ports,Sherries and Dessert Wines. Also some Balsamic and high-end vinegars are made with a Zork.

I don’t mind the zork. I’ll take it over a screw cap. Sadly, nothing beats the sexiness of the good ol’ cork, to me.

I think Zorks are ok for wines to drink right away. For wines that I want to age 5 years or more I prefer the traditional cork because it provides better aging through microcirculation through the cork.

QOTD: I used to play Zork on my Atari 800 in the early ’80’s. I have yet to see a wine with one. It looks interesting, but I think I’ll always be partial to real corks.

  • Hey Gary,

I usually avoid marketing gimmicks, but if you say the zork is cool, then who am I to argue. I’ve never used one but wouldn’t be opposed to trying it i suppose.

They work nice, we have a New Zealand brand in our store that uses them. I still prefer screw caps.

  • I like the popping sound of the zork, it seems to make a very satisfying sound on that first opening. If you were to close the bottle again though, does the zork still maintain that satisfying popping sound?

QOTD: Never had the pleasure of Zorking a bottle of wine… Would not be turned off a wine by a zork cap.

  • Hey

QOTD: Got no issues with the ZORK, but kind of find it irrelevant. People shouldn’t be so hung up on the ‘romance’ of opening a bottle of wine. In the long run a pop is just a pop. A sounds that wine makes when it opens. Do you get excited about opening a can of drink or bottle of juice?

When I say irrelevant I can’t believe the majority of US wines aren’t under stelvin seals. Why wouldn’t they be? As an Australian who lives in Hong Kong it’s one of the things I look for when buying wine. Wine to cellar in Australia will keep better under screwtop and wine to drink in the near future in HK will be less likely to be heat effected.

GO GOOD QUALITY SEALS (cork is not good quality, though there is good and bad quality corks..)

To bad about the Jets GV. 2 interceptions not good for Favre.
I haven’t ever seen a Zork closure before. Will it decrease the chances of cork taint such as TCA?

QOTD: did a Zork enclosure. didn’t know what is was at first. As long as it works (no taint issues, nor air leaks) ! Thought that it worked well.

A big pass on the zork. Call me old fashion but I prefer the cork any day of the week. AND…thanks for pushing the varietals on wine packaging…This consumer would like to know.

Never tried the Zork…Gary, next time put the Zork back in the bottle and turn upside down (or on its side) to see of leaks! Not a fan of traditional cork, they break and leak too much.

    Gary, you didn’t re-Zork!!

Never had a Zorked wine but I think it is way cooler than a screwcap. I’m assuming it goes right back in the bottle (re-Zork) like the cork, in case you don’t finish the bottle.

I think it will catch on. Get ready for phrases like, “I detect a little Zork-taint” and “Aww F@&*, this bottle is Zorked!”

QOTD: I’m such a traditionalist, prefer the cork over any wine closure. There is just something exciting about opening a corked wine! It’s like opening a birthday or christmas present! The Zork has the pop sound but it’s the whole experience with the corkscrew and all that I love!

  • QOTD: I haven’t used the Zork, but I think it’s pretty cool. My first bottle of wine, a nice Tawny Porto that I bought at 12:01 on my 21st Birthday has a capped cork (similar to the Zork) with a ribbon pull foil, but that’s the closest I’ve ever gotten.

I’d love to zork-off to/with some wine (I wonder how often they get that one).
Never have but I’m always up for a little zorkorific time.

  • I’ve never had a “zorked” wine, but I’m not opposed to it. As long as the unique characteristics of the wine aren’t compromised, I don’t really care what is used. The zork does appear to be very convenient. I’m impartial to cork. I just opened this evening a 2001 Bernardus Maurinas. A portion of the cork was decayed, which had me concerned that the flavor profile was compromised. It’s a tasty bordeaux blend, but might it have been different without the cork issue?

  • Kevin

Never used one, but I’d say it makes the wine look cheap and not very classy. Not that a wine has to be expensive to be good, it certainly doesn’t, but theres something abort a cork that I want my wines to be corked not zorked.

QOTD: Never used a zork, but they don’t look any more elegant than a screwcap closure to me. In fact, they look downright cheap. The glass stoppers (Vinolok?) are definitely my favorite non-cork closure.

  • Big D

Hey Mambo has a white also that has a Zork closure. I like the Zork as it still allows re-capping and gives a better “feel” than twist-offs. The Hey Mambo white was an interesting blend and very serviceable for a $9 wine as well.
