Episode didn’t work too well as hushed tones don’t go hand in hand with GV! Camera out of focus on menu and sound went dodgy when camera switched to guest. One thing to take out of it is Gary’s wine knowledge – it’s absolutely RIDONCULOUS

Good show. Liked the gonzo cam work!

QOTD: Landmarc in Tribecca has a small, but nice list, with good prices. It’s quite a nice bistro that’s worth checking out.

So why did you choose to eat at that dive when there are so many really nice places to go to in L.V.?
    Smell it first!

  • That was awesome pointing out the price of ghost block, Vegas wine prices are outrageous. I understand rent for restaurants there are high but the wine is not there creation it’s the food they prepare. If I was a winery and saw restaurants selling my wines at 3 x retail cost I’d be pissed.

Well a little disappointed in the wine list… good episode though, I like the wine list reviews!

Gary, have you been peeking at La Blogotheque.com?

Like the subversive-feeling, Blair Witchy spontaneity of this episode…good stuff.

Vegas…what can you say? It’s like what Winston Churchill said about democracy (I’m paraphrasing)…”It is the worst system possible and the best system there is”

They’ve all gone out there…even Keller and Trotter..it may be wrong but it still…is.

    loving your work

WINE LIST PRICES ARE INSANE!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Most restaurants have their pricing set at 20-35% cost. The lower the price, the bigger the ripoff. Most by-the-glass lower tier is the first glass is priced at the cost of the bottle, the next 3 or 4 are pure profit. Yea, I know broken glassware costs money to replace and a very occasional bottle breaks. But the pricing is nuts compared to kitchen food costs where there is a LOT more labor involved to bring you food compared to wine. I simply won’t fork out the bucks for this luxury. It’s good for me too. I go out, I may have one or two good beers that I wouldn’t normally be able to find and go home and uncork a bottle. It really helps in the DUI department.

This is a place wine lovers need to stop by if visiting the beautiful Laurentides region in Quebec.

The list may have 120 pages, but there is wine for every budget and there’s a good chance that you will find something there that you will never see again.

Plus the staff is great and Champlain Charest is a real passionate.

WHOA – VERTIGO AGAIN on flipping between the wine list (which you could never read)and Gary. Stop already!! FOCUS on the wine list with Gary doing the voice-over. Shoot Gary at the end for a couple of minutes with the wrap-up. Great concept – lousy execution.

  • Fun episode, but I don’t drink wine a restaurants either. I’m too poor for that. Thank to Dominus for the OBX tip. I also vacation there every year and have been wanting to eat there for a while. I will make it happen, if this storm doesn’t wash it away!

Wine is too expensive at restaurants here in Vancouver and the wine lists have the same old tired wines on them. I am not bitter though.

I will never eat there-redonkulous that they charge so much for wine in these places!

QOTD: Valle Reale Montepulciano d’abruzzo 2004 shared during the debate! Very interesting and yummy!!!!

Great quick episode. I am in the restaurant business so I am always interested to see what other concepts are doing to diversify their lists.
QOTD- I live in Chicago and had the pleasure of eating at Charlie Trotter’s a few weeks ago. A wine list the size of the bible, and not a typical wine list. The majority of the stuff on the list I had never heard of, which really excited me.

QOTD: Best wine list in the past month? Definitely going to have to go with my house. I don’t dine at the kinds of restaurants that have impressive lists very often.

    Great Show!!!

I really like these quick wine list review episodes.

QOTD: Best wine list I’ve seen in the last month was when I was visiting New York. It was at a small restaurant called Etas Unis. Not a super huge wine list but some decent value from what I remember and I loved their half bottle selections. In home town of Houston, not a lot of wine lists that really stand out. Pappa’s Steakhouse has a decent one but focuses heavily on Australian shiraz and Cali Cabs….not big on much else.

I would be THRILLED to see that selection of zinfandels on a wine list. Many restaurants don’t offer any zins, period! But, of course, i don’t roll like GV does…

    Good call on the Willa-Kenzie,

but when I see prices like that I usually say “Margarita”

    Nice show.

  • Andy Miramontes

Best wine list I’ve come across lately is from Casa Mono in NYC. Its the shiznet. You don’ have to spend 100 to get an amazing bottle.

Fun episode, good to change it up every once in a while.

QOTD – Barolo in Seattle, WA. Excellent selection of Italian wines, never would guess by the name, I know. Prices are, as usual in restaurants, high. But for special occasions, or to try something I don’t normally see, it’s fun.

QOTD: Gotta say being in the Jersey area best wine list I’ve come across in the past month has been Aurora in SoHo NYC def an amazing list of Italians with a very venerous price point along with the best Italian i’ve had in NYC and yes Ive tried those joints you’ve been to. Back in Jersey 2 good spots are Water And Wine in Watchung, NJ, amazing list and food as well and Pluckemin Inn but the last one is for those pricy days when the wine cost 10 times as much as the food, big cali cult selection.

  • so the best wine list I’ve been across so far has been at the North County Wine Company in San Marcos CA. They’re just good.

I think it’s neat to see an episode where you’re manning the camera – a look at how Gary sees the world – all spastic and stuff 🙂 Kinda Cloverfield-ish.

    Great show, keep them coming.

Nice to see this change of pace episode – I liked your brief review.

Rest. wine prices – insane, as someone mentioned. Esp. in Vegas.

QTD – In the last month, nothing has stood out as most meals have been at home. In Cleveland, our family is really hurting financially so rest. with top notch wine lists have not been frequented.
