Gary, thanks for reaching out to those of us who appreciate good wine but need to keep a sharp eye on the $$$. Please do some more shows like this one.

Good show. Ever consider a cooking show/wine tasting? http://savorhospitality.com/cookingcoarse/ This guy is a hoot! and like you, good!
    Come to Raleigh!!

A 91 white?? wow. Got to find that! Oh, not in NC.
    Riesling is in NC.
    Other two wines. not.

I’m thinking of starting a wine tasting show in my mirror… with wines I can find.
QOTD: didn’t stay for it. sorry.

I’m looking forward to your new mission to find great stuff to get me through the economic lull.

Bill (below) is not kidding… the porca de murca douro is sensational for $8 (after shipping – or retail price)

QOTD: Hogue Fume Blanc (’06) and the Jonesy Tawny Port (NV) – I just can’t get enough of the stuff, especially with some dark chocolate or Oreos. God, I love Oreos…

Great stuff Gary!!! Always love to try potential QPR wines. QOTD- 2006 Geode Santa Barbara County Chardonnay. A great $10 chard that is not typical of California (no oak monster here). There is oak in the wine but it is far more “appropriate” that what we are used to seeing in the golden state. Very nice tropical fruit and crisp acidity that is not overbearing. Best new world white wine that I have tried at this price point in quite a while.

QOTD: i’m going to bring back an old fave from the show: Prado Ayala Rioja – bold & flavorful for that price point. Wifey votes for the Shotfire Shiraz, but that may be $14 at WL. So my vote wins I think.

Gary- You didn’t tell us how the label tasted????? LOL!!!!!!

2006 Mouton Cadet (or any year for the last six years!) Cheap and nice.

  • Pastafari Pirate

QOTD: Terrazas de los Andes Malbec. And 2 very close runners-up: Castano Hecula Monastrell, and Trapiche Oak Cask Malbec.

btw, I could go even cheaper, and give you a dozen QPR absolute gems that are $7 and under.

  • QOTD: best under $13 wine recently is the 2006 Pacific Rim Gewurztraminer
unlike most low cost gewurz, it has great acidity and is just off-dry. Aromatics and flavors are classic litchi.

  • QOTD: When I’m broke, I always like the Big Red Monster. It’s about 10 Bones.

I almost bought Pillar Box last night b/c I was going over to my brother’s house to watch the debate (I don’t have TV), and his dog’s name is Pilar so I thought it would be cool, then I thought, he’s loaded, I’ll just drink his wine.

I got my brother to watch the show for the first time last night. He loved it!!! He picked out a Napa show and was able to name the 3 of the 4 wines that were on the table even though you couldn’t see the labels very clearly. He’s off to Napa tomorrow!

I was in love with Tommy Herr when I was a kid. He was part of the ’82 World Series Champion Cardinals!!! #28 and curly dark blond hair!!! Almost as hot as Gary.

Hey Mott and Gary, where’s my free schwag for writing a comment on that one episode? You know when Gary picked a show at random, and if you wrote a comment you get a schwag package. I was one of those people and I’m still waiting?
QOTD:I’ve been drinking whiskey and beer exclusively.

QOTD: ChΓ’teau Du Buisson Bordeaux 2006. At 7 bones, is a very solid wine. Great Tuesday dinner wine, in my opinion. Love the shift in the show, 13$ and under. It’s a good challenge, and a fun one at that.
