When you were opening up the packs a couple of days ago I figured that you would open up a Steve Frey (pronounced fry), he is my dad’s cousin. He had a long career as a relief pitcher, and now runs a baseball camp down in Florida. Bit of useless trivia and the first time Steve’s name has been in the media for probaly 13 years. Kudos!

Here is the secret wine of all time. It scored 89 points Wine and Spirits. It smells, tastes and finishes like the wine that it purports to be. And, it is actually quite good. Oh, AND, it’s ONLY SIX BUCKS!!!

QOTD 2005 Chapoutier cote du rhone

QOTD: I just drank the 2005 E. Guigal Cote du Rhone and was pleasantly surprised. Well worth the 13 bones it costs, and should be widely available.

If anyone is in Washington state, look out for Sockeye merlot.. it’s only $10, maybe even $6.99 on sale and goes great with spicy Indian food and of course, salmon.

I am new to wine but had someone recommend a VERY inexpensive Cab red blend called Mallet Pointe that sold for $5.99 a bottle! It has a screw cap and I don’t mind having just a glass at night without worrying about wasting the rest of it. I enjoy it and wow… does that work in to a budget!

QOTD: 2006 Heartland Stickleback Red ($8) and 2005 Nieto Senetiner Cabernet Reserva ($7). Both bring serious THUNDER for the bones!

QOTD: 2007 Twin Vines Vihno Verde from Portugal. Light and refreshing. Great “porch wine”. . . $9.00 a bottle. Have shared two bottles with friends and it was really enjoyed.

i have really enjoyed the big tattoo syrah/cab blend and their riesling. both under $10. I buy them whenever i see them. good stuff.

QOTD: M1 Monastrell from Valencia. Easy-drinking and a crowd pleaser!! A school-nite wine for sure!

QOTD: 2006 Montalto Nero d’Avola/Cab blend (Sicily). C$11 in BC – probably US$6 in the US.

Good everyday wine with decent fruit and acidity, no oak and screwcap.

I have two – the Bixio Ripasso is a must if you love the vento; and if you love South France the 2005 pesquie la terrases (didnt like the 06 as much)

Great idea for the show – economy episodes. I hope you stick true to your word and do quite a few of these (like one a week).

Loved the quick appearence by Mott and the baseball card opening – that impromptu makes this show interesting.

QTD – In the last month, I cannot think of any <$13 that I would recommend. In addition, Ohio’s pricing is possibly $2-$3 (or more) higher per bottle then many other states in this economy category. So we lose out on those $11-$13 bottles. For instance, although I have not seen The Victor (Lengs and Cooter) shiraz on the shelves here recently, I recall that as a $15-$17 bottling.

QOTD: Louis Jadot Beaujolais Villages, let it open up for an hour or so. Oh man!

QOTD: Elio Perrone’s Tas Mor Can Barbera d’ Asti 2006. I usually don’t go back to buy more in this price range unless I’m exceptionally impressed, but this wine did it for me. Well-balanced perfect food wine, great for a BYO establishment. I paired it with grilled rib-eye steak , mashed potatoes, green beans and salad. Absolutely delicious. My husband and I rarely finish an entire bottle of wine at dinner, but we finished this one. Nice change from drinking a big Cali Cab with red meat.

Actually, it was the 05 Pillar Box. Just finished the last one of those 3 weeks ago. Too bad the 06 isn’t the same style.

I haven’t seen your show in months and decided to tune in today. Overall, it was a good show. You should know better than to try such a young Pommard. Burgundy ? I’ll never understand why people buy it unless they buy it for their newborn babies to enjoy when they have children of their own.

QOTD: ?05 Chateau Pesquie Les Terrasses CdV ? I bought a bunch of the ’05 for $11. Amazing and incredible stuff. Why can’t everybody make wine like this? I haven’t tried the ’06 yet but am looking forward to it when my ’05s are gone.

Another cheapie, $7ish or so, wine that never disappoints me is the Luzon Jumilla.

QOTD: Two wines for you… 2004 Giacomo Castelli Roman Rosso-$7 and 2006 Snoqualmie
Whistle Stop Red Columbia Valley-also $7. Both brought the thunder for the dollar.

I the last week, the 05 Kenwood Zin was very good
and 05 Earthworks Syrah.
I’m exlusively a red drinker and I find most 06 to
be too young for me.

favorite # is 9. mott is a crazy guy lol . happy birthday, perry. i like the baseball cards. do what you like. and the decanting was interesting. you know i think i have seen Double cross vodka at specs here in houston that bottle looks so familiar. ive never had it though. i tried Ciroc vodka. its good. acutally i think its really good. pricey though. its distilled 5 times too. p diddy is the spokesperson or something for it.i thought that was kinda funny cool websites for both. thanks for the vid gary
