Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

I liked the format. I appreciate the change of pace and a short episode leaves me wanting more in a way that makes me excited for new content but satisfied. Keep shaking things up.

QOTD: Haven’t tried a Rhone wine yet. Have a CdP in the cellar, though.

QOTD: I like both formats… Maybe two of these a week, two multi-wine, and then a “special guest” episode… i like the knowledge sharing, but also appreciate the multi-wine shows. Love the special guests!!! Especially Lief and the Walla Walla Washington dude, great stuff!

  • GV a shorter more info focused show is awesome two or three times a week IMO. And by the way, the Chiefs are absolutely awful, don’t worry about them.

QODT1: I have to say, none recently. I live in San Jose. Most of the Rhone wine I drink is locally grown Rhone varietals.

QOTD2: The format works when you have a topic that needs more time and just tasting 3-4 wines doesn’t provide any benefit to the topic. BTW, thanks for the shout out for Santa Cruz Mountain Wines. Also a big fan of Anderson Valley and Alexander Valley.

sorry, i like the 3 wine format better. i like how you compare the different wines. i’m not a big wine drinker, so i watch for the entertainment value more than the info, though i have learned a lot watching your show! i like to see your reaction to the wine and there’s more feedback with that when you do 3 wines versus 1… i seem to be the minority on this one…

I really prefer several wines, as it gives more variety. I do enjoy the more in depth stuff every now and then, but usually I am doing other things while I watch, so do not really concentrate on the particulars.

    Forgot the QOTD

I may get some Halloween wines coming your way for the 31st if you are so inclined – Warewolf wines from Romania.

  • amgryger

I like the regional information. I’m not one to put a lot of effort into chasing after specific bottles, so in some ways it is more useful for me when you focus on a region, more so than a particular bottling.

QOTD: 2006 Domaine Cheze St. Joseph Cuvee Ro-Ree. I’ve been increasingly interested in northern rhone syrah lately. Speaking of which, and speaking of regions like Lirac that WL has a limited selection of, why doesn’t WL seem to have any Cornas in stock?

Gary, love the format, focusing on value areas such as Lirac and giving up some info on them. How about some bits on the terroir of the area like the dude from Bufflo (Canada?) at the party (ep 557)

I’m seeing tons of Reserva and Grand Reserva wines from Rioja going for sub-$20 from 1998!!! Even Bierza! Very interesting and fragrant wines.

  • Thanks for dropping your knowledge, Gary! I like this format a lot because my wine knowledge is still very limited, so the info-packed episodes are always welcome. Don’t get me wrong though, I have no problem with your regular episodes either!

    Nice show.

  • Gary – Really like this format. Very ‘meaty’ episode, exactly what i’m looking for.

QOTD: Chateau des Tourettes Grenache Vin de Pays de Vaucluse Endes 56. ACTUALLY it was an odd little bottle I picked up @ Wine Library – the label looked like something that hasn’t ever been imported to the US. It was awesome, reminding me how a 10 dollar bottle from a less known region can be just as good if not better than a ‘hot’ region. Thanks for the show!

Oddly enough, one of my most recent wines was a Lirac: ’06 Chateau de Segries, Cuvee Reserve. And, you’re right, it brought the thunder at a very respectable price. I know I drank it young, but at >$15, I thought it was worth trying before going for a multiple. It was.

Format? I say just keep mixing it as you are with the caveat of always being informational. THAT is the biggest reason I watch the show. And your dashing good looks, of course.

Gary. THANK YOu..but MORE MORE MORE. EVEN MORE INFO..the size of the vineyard…the soil…the irrigation…the history of vineyard, and the people who put their soul into the bottles. don’t just stop at an area please…but go all the way
    THANK YOU

Thanks for the great show G. Learned a lot. Like the format, good info and makes me more likely to try it out. My Grandpa loved the Jets, through thick and thin, so I know he’d be bummed too.

QOTD: Sadly, my local wine shop is pretty thin on quality Rhone wines in that sub $25 range. So, I’ll have to see what WL has. I really enjoy the Pesquie Terrasses which I ordered from you. Need to get some more. 🙂

Kermit Lynch 2005 Cote Du Rhone. Great stuff. The 2006 is also good but the 05 is great.

  • One wine format is a nice change of pace, but I wouldn’t want it all the time.

QOTD: Nothing from the Rhone in quite a while.

My JETS Prediction: JETS 38 – Chiefs 13

Good format, good show. How about a “One Wine Wednesday” show?

Are you done Friending people up on Facebook?

Can’t remember the last Rhone wine. Trying to reduce my carbon footprint, so most of the wine I drink is from my home state, California.
