Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

QOTD – Domaine des Lises Crozes Hermitage. “Punched in the mouth while smoking a cigar by a guy with a baseball mitt on with a pepper-covered plum in the pocket”.

I like the idea of maybe once a week having a one wine show.
QOTD: E.Guigal Cotes du Rhone 2004. Liked it very much.

<> if you’d given this wine a proper sniffy-sniff, you might have been able to reduce that rating range.

QOTD 1: Pass – none experienced

QOTD 2: Variety is the spice of life ? and I like occasional shorter episodes, so today’s format was fine with me. Good to be tipped on an affordable French classic.

  • I agree with Richard Ritter, like the one wine format…just not all the time, maybe every once in a while. Every 2-3 episodes

QOTD: My cat Sailor, who is grounded, is licking his bandage and helping me remember and research – E. Guigal 2001 Cotes du Rhone. I didn’t like the first bottle I had, but loved the 2nd.
Makes it interesting to mix up the formats.

Hi GV.I love the one wine in depth discussion format! This could mix well with the older 3-4 wines tastings. I love the rhone..Never had a Lirac though but planning to remedy this very soon. Cheers!.

QOTD: I’ve had some Rhone wines but can’t think of a specific winery that stands out.
Love any show that is educational which all are in a way but very cool when you pick one region to do but would probably be better to have several wines from that area. Great show!!!!!

Harder to leave comments with a 10-hr workday and a 2-hour commute, but wanted to let you know that digging deeper into fewer wines is the way to go. Knowledge is Power!

  • Love this show format, and the interviews…. Serious content and I do often look for wines from the areas you enlighten us on… thanks! Hope to see you back in Austin soon.

I like this style format. It nice when you mix-up the flow. Repetition becomes boring. Go Thunder!

    Gary!

So I’m wondering if you’ve ever thought of doing a coffeelibrary.tv type of episode? I’m a huge coffee buff and coffee tasting is a pretty unique experience. Somewhat similar to wine, you judge coffee on aroma, body, acidity, and taste. And coffee vintages tend to fluctuate from year to year as well.

Hm… the format was fine – I like hearing a lot of info. But that doesn’t mean I don’t like longer shows. The head to heads were also nice shorter shows. Mix it up…

As for this show, I think it would be good if you could zip through at least one other example. It would help round out the show – like having two wines in EP 560.

QOTD – have been out of the rhone recently, but a few months ago, I enjoyed the St. Cosme Cotes Du Rhone Blanc that you recommended. Enjoyed the white CDR as a BYO at a seafood place…

Gigondas-La Payouse, Gabriel Meffre. I prefer the regular WLTV. More wines the better.

Ben had a good idea – coffee tasting! Get a BocaJava or something to bring a few coffees. Do french press!

Come to Raleigh. We’ll host you at a cooking school, and have a couple wineries lined up. We have our own swag to tempt Mott with. (bowl scrapers)

Do another low end PORT – under $20. wow.. I’d love it.

I bought the winepack, your team is good at communications! oh, and OHIO will not decide the election. smile. Good try.

wow. you sniffed and whirled. I used to do that. haha.

good show, Gary! I can’t find this wine locally, so education of a non-available wine, has limited value. But local watcher.

Love the info show! Where I live in Mass, I usually can’t buy the wines that you go ga-ga for. Information on regions/varietals is much more beneficial to me and my job. Plus a 30-minute show can be somewhat of a commitment.

    Hey Gary!!

I stopped into the store today on my way to meet Martha Stewart for a book signing at the Short Hills Mall. I had SUCH an amazing experience while picking out a ton of new wines I wanted to try. Everyone there was so helpful & nice!!

I picked up an Election Day Secret Pack & a Cowgirl Creamery cheese & I’m so excited to try them all in a few weeks!

…So thank you to you & your amazing staff for making my day!!

P.S. I like the format, but having multiple wines at various price points is also nice to see how they compare to each other. You rock dude!

  • QOTD: Dude, some Vayniacs HOOKED ME UP! (TheDumbPhase, JoeG, Paul, et al.) it was a 2000 E. Guigal Cote-Rotie La Mouline!

After that I did a Rhone tasting for the club, but none of the wines approached the La La.

  • GARY V—- I LOVE the format… quite frankly, the first thing i look at when going to your site on a daily basis is the length of the taping. if it’s a long’ish one, i don’t even bother, because i don’t have the time. (even though i’d love to watch)… thus, i saw the time on this one, watched it, and loved it. please throw in a couple of shorty’s in the future. it gives us working stiff’s with full schedules something to look forward to enjoying before other responsibilities hit us in the face. thanks again for all that you do. i am probably the biggest lurker out there, but i hope you know, even though us lurkers don’t leave comments, we love you and appreciate how hard you grind. thanks for being such an inspiration. thanks! ryan

Been out of the loop lately with the comments… NO TIME. However this one I gotta jump into fast:

QOTD: I just had, TONIGHT!!!!!!! a great Lirac wine from Domaine de la Claretiere, Le Gourmand, which I thought I bought at Wine Lib… no? maybe somewhere else, however i know it was under $20 and it ROCKED…. I LOVE LIRAC. It was a 2005 by the way…. I just cellar tracked it at 88 points..

FORMAT: One specific region, more info, but two wines. That and blind tastings would be my preferred show, except when you have great guests…

QOTD 2: Ok- part 2- to answer the show format question: It is nice to have just one or two wines once in a while for a shorter show that is focused on introducing a region or a varietal. I’m ALWAYS about you throwin’ down some knowledge, whether it’s something I’ve come across before or not. I like the longer interview shows as well, but it’s nice to have a few short ones here and there. OH- and I REALLY like the reviewing of eclectic wine lists- keep tossing one of those in here and there.

Just had a Chateau Segries, delicious, I’ve also had the La Dame Moderee (sp) from Lirac, also delicious, nice minerality.

I like the longer format with more than one wine. The longer the better. Go to a 1/2 hour! More interviews, more guests, more knowledge, more wine!!
