Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

Great format to mix in once in a while. I wouldn’t mind seeing this at least once/week

    Eric Solomon-producer?
Single wine format? Great, mix it up.
Lirac, first place in France to get Phylloxera, 1863.
QOD= Beaucastel’s CdP. Got an unreal deal on 4 cases of the 2001 in Denver @ $43/bottle 3 years ago!

QOTD: I drink a good number of Cote du Rhone, Vacqueyras and Gigondas. But last time i treated myself with a Cornas, and it blew me away!

QOTD: Clos de l’Oratoire des Papes, Châteauneuf-du-Pape, 2005. modern styled C9DP, but excellent wine at a very fair price.

I like these more informative shows, but I don’t see why you couldn’t taste multiple wines and be informative. It would be a bummer if you only tasted one wine and it turned out to be crap. Cheers!

Hey Gary, love the more informative shows. Sometimes I wish you would give a snippet about the vintages. in this episode you do which is great. but other regions like washington state, i have no F’in clue. the one wine format works well. i like the 2 wine head to head too. they give a little more of a reference point.

QOTD- it is the fall now, so i have been started opening rhone wines up again cuz they are too big for the summer time except for big meat on the grill. the last rhone wine that i had real affection for was from Domaine pierre and jean ganon. they make St. joseph red and white and a smaller red cuvee called something …. iles. i have 4 bottles from 04 in my cellar and i am too lazy to go look. it is dynamo. NOT for everyone. it is lean and mean with healthy acid and notes of a young horse. for 14 bucks, it is good. i bought the last bottles they had. wowowwowooooow.
BTW gary, good question. straight and to the point, plus making people get a little more specific.
great show. + love the Lirac too

I like the single-wine format once in a while… and I really appreciate when you spit hot knowledge about wine-making regions. Always thirsty for the knowledge, Gary. Keep it up!

I like this format a lot. That said, I don’t think I would want to see it every day. Part of the joy of watching the show is seeing you compare the different wines to each other, which would be lost. I do like the idea of one-wine episodes, though. Maybe just once or twice a week.

  • QOTD: I really liked the 05 Domaine des Haut Chassis – I had it at JoeG’s!!! I’m sure I’ve had others I really loved… but… that was the one I found first in my messy notes. 😉 I gave it a 92, though!

  • Yes I like these informational shows. You used to sorta do them on laid back fridays. I also miss the shows where you would answer questions.

Solid show. I liked the format. Keep the info flowing! But we can’t get rid of all the fun. What if you did a show schedule similar to this:
MONDAY = Head to Head wine battle with some fun to spark up the beginning of the work week.
TUESDAY = Show with a Guest, wine producer, web 2.0 icon, etc… let the info flow.
WEDNESDAY = Several Higher Quality Wines with some solid information.
THURSDAY = 2 wines with info directed more at food pairings, or misconceptions.
FRIDAY = Economy wine show with light info and some good football talk 🙂

Either way, I love the show. Keep up the good work!

  • GV,

Like the short format and the stats. would be nice to have the stats on the screen somewhere “more than 40% Grenache for example” and may be maps (I love maps).

Last CdP was a rose from Tavel but cannot remember the producer. Was great and not too alcoholic (about 12.5%).

    GV,

I dig the format. I will admit I do like the longer shows, but this format with all the knowledge is good too!

Can’t remember the last Rhone I had, but I just drank the Kung-Fu Girl Riesling. Good stuff!

  • Loved the format, love learning new wine facts. Maybe a format for once a week. Your shows are always great because your passion shines through.

QOTD: 2005 Chante Cigale Chateauneuf-du-Pape. Medium bodied, great minerality and earthiness. Not usually a fan of <$30 Rhone wines, they are just not my style.

Big fan of the show style today, always love to learn! Really appreciate it when you break out the obscure regions and varietals.

    QOTD:
Chateau d’Oupia Minerois. I am a fan of Louis/Dressner Selections, perhaps an idea for a show to become more aware of the importer and the style of wine they enjoy.
I an on the fence as to shows, during the week I like the shorter format but enjoy saving the longer shows to view on the weekend

  • I like that way a lot, more info and less sports banter!
    ; )

I can never remember the names of the wines I drink! It’s very annoying.

  • Would love to know more about the wine that you review with some recommended food parings. The asparagus/ seasoning episode was great and I absolutely loved the Cheese episodes.

    Keep up the good work.
