Not sure about the short format with one wine, but love the way Gary translates Mott’s comments into what he was actually trying to say!

Great format b/c the history of a wine (or list of wine) is vital to understanding the taste and describing a wine to someone NOT tasting it. Would it be helpful to have a searchable listing of wines that describe the land, season, harvest date, fermentation time, bottling, color, taste, etc. I’m new to the site so you may already have it.

QOTD: I dunno, to give you a buy name, I’d have to check my log at home. (yeah I keep a log of unique or really exceptional wines I’ve had, I’m a geek like that)

2nd QOTD: As we said on ustream, this is fine, a couple three times a week, but I like the big shows too. I like when you pull out 3 or 4 or 5 bottles, and the little guy beats the pants off the big guy.

  • Answer to QOD: 2005 Châteauneuf-du-Pape for me in the early summer.

Gary, good format for shows like this–nice, quick, focused on one wine (or more)–maybe focus on wines that are not that difficult to locate in the market..

This was a great show…I always see Lirac and pass right by it for CdR or Vacqueyras…now I will head out and pick up a bottle today. Plus—you can get a great example for less than $20. This is why I continue to watch WLTV.

QOTD: It’s been a while. I used to drink CDP’s all the time, but the last one was a ’98 Guigal CDP and somewhere in there a 2000 Roger Perrin Cotes du Rhone–11 bones(purchased in ’02, thinking at the time that the 2000 vintage was big in all of France, not just Bordeaux). Surprisingly I wasn’t disappointed at all with this wine.

QOTD II: I like more wines, 3 is usually good. Banter, Baseball cards, Bull-crap–it’s all good!

Gary, you are teasing us Canadians with the Secret Pack. Can you design a “proxy” pack that we can pick up on our own?

I love this format of show. You have a fantastic way of bringing important info to the table. I would rather learn about a region or varital than learn whether you like a wine or not. Helps us expand our palates! Nice work Gary!

  • The informative shows are the best. Keep going with those. Have a couple from the same region so we can see some possible differences.

Also, what happened with the baseball cards?

Love the informative format. Keep doing that. I enjoy the hunt for these wines like Chinon, Montefalco, etc.

  • Love the short format – sync it with a free shipping wine, and you got a killer combo.

    QOTD: St.Cosme Gigondas 1999 – stellar!

    Hi Gary,

    I like the format.

I noticed this morning at the office (remember the time difference) that you would be tasting a Lirac from 2003 (Lirac being my wife’s favorite Rhône wine) and I decided to taste another 2003 from the area with our dinner today:
Cairanne, Domaine Rocher, Cuvée M. Paul, Côtes-du-Rhône Villages, 2003. A little hot but fine on the palate with dark red fruits and pebber and that very characteristic ‘Rhône-taste’ that I love.

Good show. I had an outstading Cote du Rhone recently. It was the 2004 Cave du Rasteau Ortas Prestige Cote du Rhone Rasteau. It’s made by a cooperative in Rasteau. WS gave it a 90, I went one point higher for pure richness and structure. Not bad for $18.

QOTD2: Love the shorter shows. Too hard to catch up if you missed one and you have 3 videos that are close to 25 minutes each..

QOTD : I love Roger Sabons wines, like Lirac Chapelle de Mailhac 2005 ($30) or Chateauneuf du pape Les olivets 2005 ($40) and Chateauneuf du pape 2005 reserve ($55). Laurence Feraud is very good too with her chateauneuf du pape 2005 Domaine du Pegau($38).

Love your job Gary, 2minutes or 2hours… just be yourself!

Long, short, don’t mind so long as I learn something which I invariably do.
Do what makes you happy Gary, it’s worked so far.

  • Gary, a great episode on Lirac !
In the Netherlands as well it is a lesser known wine, but at some places available in red and white, mostly for around Euro 12.00 a bottle.
For over 15 years one of my favorites. I keep the reds sometimes for over 5 years.

Great format …. Sometimes one wine is enough and you can really break it down. You can get in a hurry if you have three or four wines .

** A Cote du Rhone 2005 earlier in the summer … it was ok.
I do love the Rhone wines. They are getting pricey.

I am usually a “lurker” but I had to come out of the dark and let you know how much I enjoyed this episode. A review of the geography, vintage, and history of the area is really interesting. Great job! The last was at my weekly group tasting: Little James Basket Press, Cotes du Rhone, NV. I think it retails for $12-15. This wine smells of dark black fruit, tobacco, blood sausage, leather. It has super juicy mouthwatering fruit, and I really enjoyed it. 100% Grenache, I believe.

LOVED seeing this shorter informative style show again. Maybe once or twice a week for those of us who don’t always have 25 minutes at a time. Keep bringing us these lesser well known wines, it makes me one step ahead of my dinner partners! love you guys at WL…
