QOTD: Clos Moulin Pontet, Chateau L’Escarjean, Chantet Blanet, Mouton Cadet reserve, st emillion, Chateau Roques Mauriac, and a couple others.
This was my first venture away from local wines of Slovenia, Hungary and Austria, which I adore. They are cheap ass booze by any standards, but some of them showed me the capabilities of bordeaux area. I have to note Clos Moulin Pontet. This stands above the crowd enormously. It beats anything below 30 eur easily for the price of 5 eur.

This year I am aimig to more well known chateaus and expanding not only pallete, but also the wallette 😉

  • I have not purchased a Bordeaux for many years. I have the 1990, 1986, 1988, 1989. They are still not ready. So drink some great old Claret and have a party

Excellent show, really high on blind!

QOTD: Clarke, Puygueraud, Malmaison, Bellefont-Belcier, Lagrange, Tourelles de Longueville, Réserve de Léoville Barton, Clerc-Milon in 1,5L and Trotanoy.

Looking for a La Clémence but in Canada (espacially in Quebec) but it’s 164$CAN (130$US) and maybe for a Cos d’Estournel.

  • “Cheap cow-butt action” ahhhhh RP never used those kind of terms to describe wine. The reason the Vayniac Nation loves you.

Great, great show. These blind tastings are da best and it really shows how damn good you are.

QOTD: Yes, the ’05 Reignac, one of the original “gargistas.” I fell in love with the ’00 and based on your opinion (I have yet to taste it) I procurred a couple cases. Looking forward to their arrival some day.

    Cheers!

P.S. The Monteflores Merlot you reviewed the other night . . . kick-ass! Having some now.

Gary: Loved this Wine Library episode on the French Bordeaux and the one on Getting Rich Slowly. I have read the Wine Advocate and Wine Spectator Magazine avidly and have spent a great deal of money over the last 15+ years on their recommendations. Well, now that I’m broke, I can only say how much I enjoyed the two film clips I viewed today. You are “spot on” regarding less expensive wines vrs. the real high end stuff. Wish I had known about this years ago. It would have saved me a great deal of money. I plan to watch your “blog” more regulary now. Thanks, Pete

  • QOTD: The only 2005 Bordeaux I have bought is the Secret de Cardinale and I only bought one bottle. I’m looking forward to drinking it someday. Hopefully I will be able to try some others as well.

QOTD: Chateau Dauzac Margaux 2005 – purchased by the case – sweet sippin’

  • Jay

QOTD: Several, but among those I’m most looking forward to trying (many years from now…) is the Clerc Milon, long my favorite “value” Bordeaux property.

great show. You know, one of Hercules’ tasks was to shovel animal crap. That’s some good company.

    Rockin’!
I only really got into Bordelais wines with the ’05 vintage. In my short voyage through the immense world of Bordeaux, I have found that many are too big to drink right now, and really get the most of as of yet. Most wines would benefit having a couple more years to settle.

QOTD: My 2005 coup de coeur is Château Maucamps, a Cru Bourgeois Supérieure from the Haut-Médoc. Big berries, ripe, but with a strong backbone that will take it through the next 2-3 decades.

To 2005 Bordeaux, raise your glasses!

QOTD: I bought cases of CH. Puygueraud, Ch. Belgrave, Ch. Caronne Ste Gemme, and Ch. Labat. All under $25 a bottle… the ones I’ve tried are WAY too young to drink now, though.

  • QOTD: I think I bought a 2005 Bordeaux last year for about $12. I can’t remember, but I think it was pretty good. Too poor to have tried any of the really good ones, I guess 🙁

Great show, GV. Blind is the way to go; I don’t even scroll down to see the wine list, so that I can be surprised, too. You’re really hitting the price points on the nose. Just a liitle too good maybe 😉 I’ve been waiting for a 2005 Bordeaux show. Was hoping that you’d have the chance to give the little beauties a little more air time before tasting, though.

Great show Gary, I’ll save up for the La Clemence. I’ve been enjoying the 2005 Ch. La Grange Clinet, pretty tasty, only about $14, which is about what I like to spend.
