I love Bierzo wines! A favorite of mine is Palacio de Canedo – Maceración. I also enjoy Cuatro Pasos as mentioned below! As a Spanish teacher just sharing a pronunciation point: Bierzo is pronounced “Bee air so” (or “Bee air tho” with Castillian accent).

Thanks for the interesting and always entertaining episodes!

  • QOTD: I’ll try almost any or all toppings but my all-time fave is probably Hawaiian.

  • thunderball

Great episode! 🙂 Gotta get me some Biezo.

Great episode. I have tried a few mencia’s and liked them all very much.

QOTD: Bacon, Onion, hot sauce, and if a blueberry or two (not too many) happened to fall in there, it wouldn’t be worst thing in the world. I know it’s weird, but that’s how I roll. Don’t knock it ’till you tried it.

    Have a good weekend.

Had a few Mencias a few years back and thought they were quite interesting. Didn’t have a lot of info at the time about them. However, it was interesting to read what was available.

  • QOTD: beans and chorizo or chilorio. I know not the standard here but quite common in Mexico. Of course they put Jalepenos on too.

Thanks for introducing us to a new wine region. QOTD – Now that I am older I put mushrooms on pizza instead of all the meat I used to like.

  • Thanks for more education!

QOTD: I will eat almost anything fresh on a pizza, except fish of any kind. Love mushrooms, artichokes, bacon, roasted chicken and I love all pesto pizzas.

My brother bought me a bottle of Petalus a while back (maybe the 2005), and it was great. It seems to be available in many good sized wine stores around Colorado. Just picked up a bottle of the ’06 tonight. I’m excited to try it in the next week or so…

QOTD: I’m a fan of traditional pepperoni…maybe some olives, onion, green pepper….

Great education show. looking for a label? ha. smile. if it was just sideways, I’d have an idea. sigh. just kidding.
    Someone prior to Mott? no.

Very good thoughts about a wine I’d like to find.

QOTD: Oyster mushrooms, thin green asparagus, and broccoli florets.

Thanks for the information show re: Bierzo wines.

QOTD: either Greek pizza (pesto, garlic, kalamata olives, feta, spinach) or a jalapeno/pineapple/bacon/sausage combo. Love the sweet + hot of peppers & pineapple

Right now, though, hanging out with homemade banana nut bread + Friexenet (cuts like a sharp knife through my dense, moist bread!)

    QOTD:

My goto is always the quatro stagioni, kalamata olives, shrooms, proscuitto, and a soft cooked egg.

For giggles I had a white pizza with mashed potato and clams a few weeks ago… tasted like clam chowder pizza!

Another great show … I have the Petalos and agree it’s a good wine for the money. I use it almost as a substitute for Pinot Noir selections – must be that earthiness and minerality I get. I don’t see much else from Bierzo available in northeast Ohio – but, that’s why there is always the Wine Library!

QTD – Stand by – Pepperoni and mushrooms but it seems each time we order pizza, we try different combinations. Must be the influence of Gary – be open to trying different wines!

GV – I like most of the Spanish wines that I drink – I have fallen out of love with the value Garnachas because they seem a bit “fakey fake”. I have had wine from Bierzo, but I can’t recall it very well.

QOTD – I grew up in the New Haven, CT area and my favorite “pies” were – Bacon and Onion, or Meatball.

Just a comment: if you like mencias from Bierzo, you should definitely have a go at those from Ribeira Sacra (say, Guímaro or Abadía da Cova). Don’t know whether they are easily available over there, though.

Definitely need to try more of these wines. As for the question of the day, it would have to be pepperoni and onions.

Great show, I am going to have to make a trip to the nearest big wine store and seek a Mencia.

QOTD: This is my favorite pizza in the world from Italy: Quattro Stagioni sensa prosciutto con caperi (black olives, artichoke hearts, mushrooms, and instead of ham, capers) with the thin Italian crust, not Napoletano style.
