line of the day – (talking about people who don’t try new things) ‘I’ve got a customer in New Jersey, she drank 836 cases of Santa Margerita Pinot Grigio and it makes me throw up in my mouth’

Gary in tremendous form – hamming it up in front of a live audience. Great stuff

QOTD: I don’t drink much dessert wine, but I really liked a Vinho Verde I had with apple pie a couple of weeks ago.

You were really nice to them and yet also were honest. Nice tightrope.

Does that lady know anything about her own wine? She seemed more unsure than anything. Gary had to work for every comment.
    QOTD: Reisling?

I agree w/ Herm – a highpoint is Mr. Gary V.’s inclusion and exposure of the smallest little guy winery out there, and his ability to find, view, and express their positive attributes in simple, honest (imaginative!) terms and not appear condescending or patronizing, let alone embarrassing or humiliating. The bonding and fellowship he brings to wine novices is as powerful as it is important. At the same time, he lambasts those of the industry and world who exploit even their own consumer base with mediocrity and price gouging. I appreciate that.

GV – continue to bring thunder, and tell us how you REALLY feel!

QotD – Dessert wine’s delicious, but just ok. Not a big sweet tooth. I eat dessert about twice a year, and typically prefer fresh fruit at other times of the day, every day.

Thanks Gary for continuing to explore and expose the other 46. These, to me, are the most interesting shows.

  • QOTD: Nope. I love the desert wines, but they’re not my favorite wine.

Nice to see a show with other 46 wines that Gary didn’t pan. Shows potential. I’d like to see him come do some Connecticut wineries.

Nice show, but kind of dissapointing to see she wasnt completely in the know of her own wines though. At least overall it was a positive showing for a “other 46” state. QOTD: Im ALL about dessert wines, but Im training my palate for the reds…. slowly but surely.

Nice eppisode. Im excited to see other east coast wineries mixing vinafera with labrusca. I mean its about time, Barack Obama is our president now, the the harsh and unjust barriers of grapism shall fall; yes we can. lets us blend our Seyval with Reisling, our Merlot with our Baco.

what’s going on there. The wine marker doesn’t even know the blend?? what??
ok..even if she isn’t the viognier, as a manager, she has to know something about her wines. I will never buy anything from this winery. They are not dedicated to their wine.

The lady didn’t seem to know too much about her own wine. Uncomfortable to watch. But you kept it going GV and you earned your keep today.

QOTD: I don’t really like sweets in general and so it has to be an amazing dessert wine with LOADS of acid and not much sweetness which kinda makes it technically not a dessert wine. I like good reds, whites, sparklings, etc.

    Expanding my horizons.

I disagree w/a comment above. I think you told us what you thought. Maybe you did add a point or two to be nice. but the comments were what I heard.

Love that they make all sorts of weird blends. she did seem sweet but do agree she should have known a bit more about the wines.

comment part 2: read in your book how dessert wines always seem to score 92, 93, 94++
    Now that you mention it…
QOTD: diabetic but can’t stay away from sauternes. dr loosen wehlener sonnenuhr auslese is a good tweener wine, sweet but w/ good acidity. most recent yrs 06, 07 delicious and versatile.

Gary — you are one likable dude. Tell it like it is and they still loved you. A real class act

  • Thanks guys

QOTD: No! In Australia and Hong Kong they’re probably not as popular as in the US, but I do enjoy them.

    Cheers

GV – Not a big fan of the other 46 wines, however it is part of the wine world.

QOTD – I would not say that I am a big fan of dessert wines, but they can be really good – Ice wines, Pacherenc du Vic Bihl, Auslese.

QOTD: The East Coast does make some delicious dessert wines. I am on my way to Alba Winery in the Dirty Jerz to pick up a few bottles of their Apple wine made from Tewksbury apples—and I’m not a big fan of dessert wine.
