  • I could listen to Nicolas for HOURS! Great guy with attitudes to open your eyes and let you think new things!

QOTD: Generally yes, but there are so many wines out there where I am missing that special something!

QOTD: Yes, because I buy wine from producers who I respect for their devotion to vineyards, terroir and creating wines that go with food (including a biodynamic producer, Cayuse in Washington). I do not buy wines on scores and ignore all advertising come-ons that use scores to sell wine.

Gary, thank you for bringing Nicolas Joly to your show. I brought Clos Sacres to our offline several years ego. All were impressed-and I am talking about wine geeks with extensive cellars, people who know their wines.

My question to you Gary: when I’ll be able to buy Nicolas Joly wines at WL?

Genius – pure genius. This man needs to put up a bed-and-breakfast in the castle. I would come stay for a week every year just to hear this man’s outlook on life.

QOTD: Not so sure any more after watching! If WL carried these appelations, I’d purchase in a heartbeeat. How ’bout it, Dr. Vaynerchuk? 😉

Thanks again for this great episode! Thank you, Nicolas for being on the show.

qotd: I am generally happy with the wine I drink, but I am still unhappy with some of it. I think some is too much considering how much good wine is out there.

    Great great show.

QotD: Yes I’m happy with the wine I’m drinking. Not overly enthused, but times are tough!

  • I am happy with the wines that I have drunk. I will perservere to keep wine as a joy in my life. And to do so, means that I will coninue to learn, search and keep an open mind to things that I have yet to try and even to some that I have tried in the past and didn’t care for.

  • What a great guest! I want to hear so much more of this guy – he thinks a lot like I do, and yet has so much experience that I feel like I could learn so much.

QOTD: Not really. At the moment, it seems like finding a good wine is like finding a needle in a haystack. There are a lot of “ok” wines, but I wouldn’t say I’m happy with that.

Fascinating! One of your best. More info on biodynamic wines would be great. How about a Thunder Tour that includes some of these spots?

QOTD: No. I live in Pennsylvania. I can’t try half of what I want because the PLCB has not graciously bestowed it upon us. What a joke!

I asked for Biodynamics on the facebook monday post. It took a couple of weeks but I am certainly going to enjoy this week. Thanks.

Merci, Monsieur Joly, Je suis enchanté à l’idée de boire beaucoup de vin.

I am blown away by Nicolas, what an amazing man….Please make him a regular (at least 4 times per year). I know if I look deep enough, I have a fraction of the passion for wine somewhere within me. My new goal for 2009, find the passion.
QOTD: I feel that I can not financially afford (on a regular basis) the quality of wine that makes me happy. I have at least one bottle per month of “happy” wine. The other 30 days is simply a “compromise” wine. Pretty sad that the happy wines (on average) cost so much money. Not that all expensive wine is good, but all the “happy” wines that I like have a high price point. I know that Gary is always looking for that happy wine at less than $50…….But I have not felt the “love in the bottle” yet..sorry Gary.

Happy Birthday to my wife………….Gayle (celebrating her 29th BD anniversary again), yes…….. I bought her “happy” wine as a gift

Fabulous show Gary v! Nicolas Joly really touched into my Heart.

I’m familiar with this method for some years and it’s
fascinating me every time again, and I’m just can’t wait to show
this apisode to my dad, who makes wine pretty much the same…
Sadlly In my country Israel, I supposé that Biodinamic not really
    gets into practice.

QOTD: If it’s not industrial wine, Most of the time its make me happy (:

    Bravo Nicolas!

I think I got your message. It is one of “Slow food”.

Most times when man has to much intervention in anything. It usually get mucked up !

I am happy with my wine when it provides a delicious flavor exerpience.
Most times for me it is a surprise…..when we drink a delicious wine for about $20. Yesterday, it was Domaine de Nizas- 2004 Coteau du Languedoc.

For me; simply delicious…..did not know the cost or could we remember were we got it. Later ound out it made WS 2008 top 100 list; with a score of 90.
We scored it 94…….! Longest finish of any wine we’ve had in years.

Maybe sometimes knowing less is better for the taste buds and the wallet.

  • QOTD: Tough question, actually. I find that about 1-2% of wines I taste really sing to my palate. My goal then is to find those wines and buy them so that I’m not unhappy 99% of the time!! Finding a character in a wine your palate gets along with – as in a fine marriage – is certainly a challenge.

    Fantastic episodes, great guest!
Even the question of the day may be one of the best ever; it’s almost a bit philosophical for us, wine lovers…

QOTD: Generally, I try to pick wines that I expect to like (not only in a hedonistic sense, but also as in ‘expanding my palate’). Unfortunately, quite often it leads to disappointments. In that sense I totally agree with what Kevin said just before me.
