Wines tasted in this episode:

line of the day – ‘this wine is very one-dimensional, and that dimension is water…and danger’

I find myself enjoying Gary’s asides, winks, frowns and general facial expressions almost more than the content these days. He was asking a lot of the Mottster to identify differences between the same wines opened at different times, and Mott duly appeared all at sea…poor Mott. Also a funny slapstick ending. Classic

I am pretty knowledgeable about Iberian wines, which I am somewhat partial to over wines from other regions. I bought a 2007 Rueda Con Class last week and was pretty impressed. Although I have never tried the L&F Lurton, I have to agree with you that such an experience is not what I would call representative of the region.

QOTD: I am definitely centered on WINE. Most spare?? time is spent reading or researching wine. I look forward to each occasion I am able to share wine with friends and family. In fact, I have chosen the wines for a 40-guest party this weekend at the The Fine Diner in Clinton, NJ. Finding a perfect food and wine pairing is also great fun for me. All our vacations are spent in wine-producing regions, predominantly in the USA, but I hope to expand that one day.

    • QOTD: Right now, I am really into learning. I took a bit of a different path with my education, I dropped out of college during my junior year, took a little over 2 years to get back in, and I will now graduate this fall.

The thing is, I AM KILLING IT NOW! I changed majors when I came back to school because I had some experience and knew what I wanted to do, which was not the case at 18. I’m studying marketing now, and it’s a whole different game. I actually get it now, I CARE now, I learn things and apply them, I retain so much more than I ever did when I was a kid that knew nothing of business and how things work.

I cannot regret dropping out of school when I did, because I am benefiting from it more now than I ever would have back then.

(I do have other things that are also my scene, but this is really my thing at the moment.)

Great show Gary i feel like the shows are fresher lately and love the guests also. My far is that may change after the baby arrives but life goes on. QOTD My scene is one of retirement and working part time in a retail wine shop in chicago. Love the freedom and the chance to learn an explore new wines, thanks for being part of that.

Alright I am caught up on episodes again.

Nice show, like it when you show us something that blows you away.

What’s my scene? Well I am a single dad with an almost 7 yr old son. I am the sole proprietor of my own carpet cleaning business in Sonoma County California. (Yes I know who Joe Polish is, but don’t like his style) I spend time between working, being a dad and sometimes getting out to ride my mountain bike with old friends. I love cooking and entertaining and wine is always a part of it.

I started watching by accident one day when surfing the net for lightning picture when I saw a link to the “thunder show”. What’s that I said and next thing you know it’s 6-7 monthes later and I continue to be a regular viewer. Thanks for you energy and commitment to you passion!

My Name is Roger. Not trying to hide behind a screen name, just trying to be cute I guess.

First off the dumping of the first ‘wine’ at the end was just to good!

More importantly thank you for doing a Montepulciano d?Abruzzo. Please to a whole show on them at some point. I did not know that it had something of a ‘jug wine’ reputation. To me it is always the house wine from the Italian restaurant I practically lived at in Belgium. Unfortunately, I never got the brand name (still trying to track it down) but it was probably what started me on actually enjoying wine.

QOTD: I am a computer nerd so that is always there but outside that…

I am deep into the RepRap and Fab@Home scene. Home grown 3D replicators and the surrounding tech are very reminiscent to me of the what I imagine the golden age of early science must have been like. Incredibly talented people pushing the limits of what conventional wisdom says is possible with now funds and nothing but passion.

Hey GV, nice show. It’s always fun to have Mott on the show to illustrate the juxtaposition of the gregarious wine nerd and the subdued novice. QOTD: asking what we’re into right now is kind of like asking “what is your purpose?” Sooo, as far as what I’m into (but not necessarily what I’m all about):
      1. yoga
      2. job searching
      3. graduating in May with a Master’s degree
      4. Thich Nhat Hanh

That’s a tough question of the day…it gets us thinking deeper, and I like it. Keep it real.

    • What is my scene? I’m a research chemist with a Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) manufacturer and a social media afficianado. My interest in wine? I am into wine as a longer term investment in lifestyle, so I like things that keep well and will be as good or better in 3 – 5 years.

If I’m going to enjoy it now I want a big and bold red (cabs mostly) or I get a kick out of something like the white that you liked today. Especially, as you mentioned, something that makes you want the meal. I recently gave a few Vinho verdes (sp?) as gifts to my family, and I think most of my relatives would agree.

As an aside, I really enjoy that wine is again becoming local – it seems every region of the country now is turning out, at the very least, passable wines from small to micro/pico sized operations. In my own region (western Iowa / Loess Hills), there has been a recent rebirth of the grape as an agricultural crop. It is just beginning, and there is almost daily improvement, so watch for the Loess Hills wines and when you’re in Omaha in May, be sure to request something local!

    • I loved the tasting of the 48 hour old wine next to the freshly opened bottle of wine. It was a lot of fun to see how the wine changed over the course of two days.

Great show GV! I laughed so hard at the first wine description…”I do NOT like this wine…bad, terrible…it’s like water plus…danger!” Unfortunatly, I was sipping my coffee at the time…ten mins later, I had my desk and computer screen cleaned up!! No matter how often I tune in, you always keep it fresh!

I just got the monthly wine club “B” pack. Guess I’ll have to buy a bottle of the 2004 Montepulciano d’Abruzzo, seperately!

QOTD: Skiing with my wife, and 2 boys …(spring conditions at Killington Vt)I especially enjoy the wine and cheese apres’ski!

QOTD. Work is kind of slow, unfortunately. I’m hoping it will pick up. In the meantime I learn all I can about wine, follow the Formula 1 pre-season (can’t wait for it to start) and on certain days like today soccer European Champions League.

    • Awesome bucket dump from distance.

QOTD: My scene right now is trying to get my last licks up at the mountain, not really caring about the World Baseball Classic but psyched for opening day (Go M’s), looking forward to a ton of buzzer-beating bracket busters, tons of release parties in western Washington wine country, and trying to get the knee fully operational for the baseball season.

QOTD – estimates for home repairs (sound of gnashing teeth), providing school and pre-professional dance for my daughters, volunteering at church and museum of art, and wine. Lurked for a while, I have really enjoyed the approach of the show. Have to run, there is a waiting room full of people waiting for me.

      Hey Gary,
Great, classic WLTV episode – good info and honest critiques of the vino.
Right now, my world is quite scenic. I came out to Sonoma a few months back, have been helping by buddy build up his winery, and searching for work as a somm. Its been a tough job market though, which has been good and bad. Bad in that i have no money, but beautiful in that I go hiking in beuatiful mountains and vineyards every day with my dog, and have been tasting at as many wineries as I can. I’m expanding my palate, my world, in large part thanks to you. Keep up the good work and Happy Purim (the only jewish holiday where its a positive commandment to drink so much wine that wine that you can’t distinguish between your enemies and your friends)!

I want to find that Montpulciano! Think it made it’s way to Vermont? Nahhh
My scene is homebrewing beer. I do enjoy wine and am happy to watch Gary. Just once I’d like to have what he’s having at the same time. Especially the Montepulciano.

    • Gary,

That was the very first Wine Library TV episode I have ever seen and I absolutely loved it. I don’t drink wine and I don’t know the first thing about wine and I still loved the show.

I wanted to thank you for giving me a little love the other day in an email. I submitted my name and info to Obsessed TV saying that I was an up and comer and you should watch for me in a couple of years. You hit me back with a quick note of encouragement. I want you to know that meant a lot to me. When your starting something from scratch and you are gambling your future and your family’s future on something that you believe in but have no proof will work, you have moments of doubt. Your email came at the perfect time to pull me out of one of those moments and get me back on the hustle.

I will make it, and we will talk some day.

      Take care,

      Josh
