Good old GV coming through like a trooper from his own kitchen. Short episode but fun to see what’s in the fridge and what he’s drinking at home. Shocking to find out that in two days he’d only drunk less than half a bottle, and if this is what he is drinking at home why spit it out? Puzzling

Damn Gary, love ya casual home shows. Haven’t tried this wine, but always loving the 3 day open Bordeaux’s.

QOTD: We opened a Chateau de Trinquevedel Tavel

Domaine la Garrigue Cotes du Rhone Cuvee Romaine 07– interesting experience: opened it last night, smelled like it might be corked, definitely some kind of mold growing in there. Drank it anyway, delicious black fruit, definitely a “drink young,” tannins were very mild. The moldy basement smell was a little distracting. I have a dilemma now though because my lips blew up with allergic puffiness (I am allergic to mold) after a couple of glasses. now I have a half a bottle on the counter. Do I drink it again? I live only a mile a way from the hospital…

Have you tasted the line of wines from Orin Swift? The Prisoner, Papallion, and Mercury Head? The prisoner is my go to wine as a gift or a special occasion wine.

QOTD: Right now on the counter is a Madrona Zinfandel and in the fridge is a 2007 James David Cellars Muscat Blanc.

The sun is out, it’s 70 degrees outside, so I am going to grab a glass and sit with the muscat and do some reading.

Have two open: Artiste Torretta – a nebbiolo, merlot blend – and Coppola 2007 Black Label Claret. On deck is a Zaca Mesa 2005 syrah.

I have to say I’m really enjoying the torretta!! I’ll have to see if you done these on your show. …cinnamon, cedar box… I like the spice so the ZM may be a good follow up.

On the tea front, I’m still hanging with Teavana’s Queen of Babylon mixed with their Rose Garden. Did you only ask about wine??!!

    Hi Gary, cheers from Brazil!

QOTD: Me and my girl just had dinner with a white Sicilian wine called Cusumano, made with Isolia grape. After that, we had a glass of a 5 year old Madeira wine, which was very good.

Did you ever drink those wines?

    Lucas and Ana

Interesting that you have been drinking the Latour-Martillac (L-M). This was one of the first wines that I purchased when I started collecting wines.
Another interesting thing – I was looking at a bottle of the L-M 2000 for tonight, however see QOTD:

QOTD – I really felt like having a Bordeaux this evening and I opened a 2000 Chateau Malecasse from the Haut-Medoc. Really enjoyed it!

Wow! It was cool for you to let us into your space, but am I to understand that you had that bottle of Bordeaux open and sitting for 3 days?!!! I always thought that oxidation and/or spoilage would be a problem by that time.
QOTD: I just opened a bottle of Chateau Coufran 2005, which was, of course, way to young, but I couldn’t wait because I liked the 2003. Have you tried this? What did you think?

Time for another blind tasting Gary.

Also question for you: when I graduated from university I worked in the quality control lab at a brewery. We tasted beers in production and were careful to chew bread or crackers between beers to make sure that tastes from one beer didn’t carry over to the next. When you switch wines, you swish out the wine glass to make sure that the two wines don’t mix, but you don’t clean your palate. Why not?

We drank a ’02 Grgich Hills Cabernet last night with followed by a small glass of ’02 Chateau Les Roques Loupiac. Since my girlfriend’s grandparents were both born in Croatia, we wanted to try Grgich’s wine. It went very well with grilled filet mignon and aged gouda.

QOTD: Like David Dadekian asked earlier, I’d also be interested to know what kind of closure you use for keeping an open bottle of wine overnight?

    Thanks

Thanks for your invitation to your kitchen, Gary!
I tried out a wonderful Petit Verdot 2006 of Finca Decero, Argentina and met Stephanie Morton-Small, the very charming representative of that vineyard.
    Greetings from Zurich.

Hey Gary… Whats up from NJ?.. A friend gave me the 2000 Crianza by Tintoralba. (All I can say is wow!) I googled the wine and came upon your site. (All I can say is wow!) I cannot beleive that I never heard of you. But now I have and I am an instant fan! PS. I love Captain Crunch. My wife almost fell over when you mentioned it because she has no idea why I enjoy it so much.

May your pallet always beg for wine, never lie, and allow many a bottle to run dry.
