Good old GV coming through like a trooper from his own kitchen. Short episode but fun to see what’s in the fridge and what he’s drinking at home. Shocking to find out that in two days he’d only drunk less than half a bottle, and if this is what he is drinking at home why spit it out? Puzzling

QTD: Rugged Hills Cabernet Sauvignon 2005 from Red Hills Lake County…Delicious!

How about an organic wine tasting show? Sounds interesting.

Gary – Great show. I’m a fan of changing up the show venues, it adds a lot of curiosity for what’s next. Very cool apartment/condo.

  • Speaking of having wine open for 3days or more I had the Bearfoot Zin. 5days open at a friends house, I think all the sugar in the wine kept it alive for that long nice easy drink nothing bad about it but really syrupy of blackberry juice

QOTD: Nothing, I generally don’t have open wine at home, I get free drinks at work part of my wages so I usually drink at work. 2007 Musacdet Loire right now, sometimes a little Chard or Pinot Gris

Requiem for a Dream meets Wine Library TV.

QOTD – 2005 Laurent Miquel ‘Saint Chinian’ Syrah, Languedoc. I’m a big fan of Miquel’s wines – especially his top viognier. The syrah is quality, but supremely tannic.. possibly opened about 5 years too early. I’ve tried it on 3 different days and it is still very powerful on the 3rd day.

Appreciate the desire to keep in touch. Have also been expanding the experience, do not know how much more I can afford, and I am trying “value” wines.

QOTD – 2005 Pasodoble (fan of Dancing with the Stars) Argentina, blend, 34% Cabrenet Sauvignon, 33% Malbec, 33% Syrah. Really prefer the 100 Malbac’s. But wanted to try a new combination.

    Hey Gary –

I have a fun idea for a show to run by you. It would be a blind tasting of ‘Critter Wines’. Even if you made fun of some of them and/or found a little gem – I think it’d be a good show. It would also line up with searching for value wines in a tough economy. A few ‘Critter Wines’ that could be considered would be…

    Rabbit Ridge
    Frog’s leap
    Monkey Bay
    Yellow Tail
    Rex Goliath
    Little Penguin
    Lazy Lizard
    Black Swan
    Goats do Roam

Maybe you could get crazy (very un-wine-pc) and do a ‘Critter Merlot’s Under $10’. I personally don’t drink those, but I know a lot of people who do. You’re finding the best one would probably benefit the masses, the proletariat, the bourgeoisie – you know the common working class peeps.

I’m thinking I need to suppress the hype-driven urges and track down some 04 and 06 bordeaux and burgundy…
I have 3 wines on my counter right now: 2006 Pinot Noir from the Okanagan in Canada called Nk’Mip – cause I’m Canadian and love to drink, support and encourage the BC wines; another Okanagan – 2005 Sandhill “Three”, it’s a barbera driven Italian blend; and a 2005 Mastroberardino Aglianico from Campania.

Hahaha, one of your best lines ever, Gary!

I’ve been away from the show for a bit but getting back into it. So glad you’re still going strong! Keep up the good work bro!

Gary, love the silver nosecone heat tiles in the kitchen, and great marble counters.

What’s on my counter? It’s actually a 2006 Palmina Arneis Honea Vineyard (from Santa Ynez), and its in the fridge. I’m going on Day 3 with it. I’m enjoying it, very elegant. http://www.cellartracker.com/wine.asp?iWine=406090

Gary, greetings from Paris! My first comment on your board, I’ve followed you just a few weeks. Enjoying your shows, learning too! What do I have on my table right now? Well, tons! Just returned from two days (I had to go back today 🙂 of tasting at Salon des Vins des Vignerons Indépendants with several hundred smaller wineries from all over France.

On the white side, I was able to pick up a 2007 Vinealis Pouilly Fumé Marc Deschamps (EUR 14). I am a big Sauvignon Blanc fan, your Pouilly Fumé episode (even though slightly discouraging) turned me in the right direction. I bought an amazing 2005 Gewürztraminer Selection de Grains Nobles Henri Gsell from Alsace (EUR 26 for half litre). I have never smelled or tasted such a floral composition before.

Reds: 2000 Chateau Lalande de Gravelongue Médoc (EUR 21), vintage is supposed to be fantastic and the Medocs seem to be right in my alley. Also picked up some 2004 Chateau Haut-Goujon Lalande de Pomerol (same price range I believe). All of these to keep a few years, even though I felt that the 2000 could be opened now after tasting it.

Then, something different. I have been somewhat sceptical to the reds of the Loire. I somehow got the impression that this is a white + sparkling area. However, I picked up a 2006 Tradition des A Domaine des Hautes Vignes from Saumur (EUR 8). This can be opened right away, I was really impressed by this one. Seems a great value.

    That’s it, you asked!

Cheers, Thorbjorn (even Norwegians enjoy wine…)

QOTD: Currently open: 2004 Vasco Sassetti “Il Ginepro” IGT Toscana.

Very smooth now compared to when purchased (2005 or 2006). Tannins are velvety, with great fruit showing, good acid, nice body, and abit of anise on the finish.

Went beautifully with some charcoal-grilled, lightly applewood-smoked Tuscan-style flank steak, caramelized asparagus, and pancetta-spiked country fried potatoes.
