Good old GV coming through like a trooper from his own kitchen. Short episode but fun to see what’s in the fridge and what he’s drinking at home. Shocking to find out that in two days he’d only drunk less than half a bottle, and if this is what he is drinking at home why spit it out? Puzzling

I’ll echo the other comments in wondering how you store your open wines.

QOTD: I have a cheap Viognier open…it’s too alcoholic but I really wanted to try a viognier.

  • QOTD: Four Sisters 2004 Chard. A definite thumbs down.

Question for you. I understand the need for the spit bucket while at work (with all the wine you taste in a day you would be drunk by lunch). But please tell me that you enjoy wine at home by actually swallowing it. I watched you, in your home kitchen in this episode, spitting it down the drain and a little piece of me died inside watching you do that.

Great short one! Love the stainless steel in the kitchen and oh was that a bottle of Dom in the frig?!!!

QOTD: Yali Cabernet Carmenère 2007 Colchagua Valley opens really nice if left! On the third day tonight and can’t wait! Tastes quite spicy with clean, red berry fruit + no hard edges. An easy one to drink while you are preparing your meals, then with the meal! YUM!

  • Woody Morgan

I love it Gary. Great stuff – I love the fridge review, and I like the format of the short video- you are getting better at doing the solo filming! I agree, I really prefer seeing you at least once a day for a short period, than not at all…

QOTD – Alter Ego Palmer 2004. On offer at our local supermarket, and it is drinking very well… very mourish

  • You sure the dustiness on the nose wasn’t because you forgot to recork the bottle for three days? 😉 Question, what difference does drinking from a glass with or without a stem make? I know that with no stem the wine will warm up more with the glass in your hand but is that it?

Hi Gary. Been watching for several months and am now taking the comment plunge.

Love the food pairing shows. Have you done burgers? Bbq? Fried oysters?

    Show us your crib!

qotd: a bottle of cruzan rum at the moment.

Shared a bottle of “Fruity” last night while watching the madness, had with some very dry cheese and salty kettle crinkle cut chips (wow that’s a lot of adjectives) – good combo, average madness. Peace.

  • I have a bunch of winery samples open right now for potential projects. As I like to taste them against commercially popular brands, I also have a BV Coastal Zinfandel open as well. It is actually not bad. Certainly better than what Ravenswood is putting out at a slightly higher price point.

    I like the short show.
QOTD: I am looking at a bottle of Trader Joe’s Blanc de blanc French Sparkling Wine Brut. Last night it was way too bitter almond with a washed out chardonnay taste. I left it open overnight and it was still quite frothy this morning (I took a swig from the bottle) and since it didn’t taste too bad I poured some in a glass, alongside my coffe-frothed milk drink for breakfast, and it was actually better than last night. Still, I will never purchase it again even for only $4.00. It might be OK in mimosas. I’ll go downstairs and try it now.

Gotta agree with Sean. When do you actually swallow the wine? Spitting at home seems odd? Would love to see a Designated Driver Special Episode where Gary V. is in the house and has had a bit Too much to drink…
Qotd: Coffee, dark roast, way too much cream, even MORE sugar!

    Hi Gary,

Love your show. Lot of the wines you have up there are not available here in Canada(Montréal, Qc)

Qotd: I had last night a Cloudy Bay Sauvignon Blanc 2007 last night for my birthday with a bunch of friends watching the hockey game(habs won!!) I wasn’t that impressed. First time i had it. It think for a 30$ (can.) wine, it was a little bit predictable. Expected more. Was much more impressed a couple of weeks ago with a Mennetou-Salon From Max Roger. Right now, with lunch i’m having a domaine de Marquisat merlot 2006. Not bad for a Merlot pays d’Oc at 12$(again can.) Will probably have this week-end a Mercurey 2004 1er cru. Looking forward to that.
