I would love to sit next to GV on a plane ride. I could talk to him for hours.
QOTD: Ginger Ale everytime.

  • Classic double Jack and Coke; that and the Seattle’s Best I probably carried on with me.

You subdued, that’s a stretch. You should get extra credit for being such a thoughtful fellow passenger, though.
QOTD: I was TDY with the Army some years ago and we were flying with Swissair and I remember having champagne. It’s probably because we were 30,000 feet and you make allowances for all sorts of things, but it was most welcome at the time.

    Gary,

Just stumbled upon the show. Absolutely love it, you speak my language, man. You had me at “smells like poop”. I have described many wines I hate as smelling like farts and always been looked at like I was crazy.

Anyway, my wife and I are new to wine and one of our favorites is Angeline Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2006. The only way I can describe it is light, fruity, and smooth. I’d love to hear your opinion on it. If you decide to try and review it but have trouble finding it, please let me know and we’d be happy to send you a bottle.

    Thanks!

Good ‘ole Southwest! This episode may have been impossible if that flying Greyhound bus would have had someone in the middle seat! Thanks for the episode.

QOTD: Virgin Business Class @ The Bar Mojito!!!!!

  • Hey Gary! Awesome idea for a show. Too bad the wine isn’t better on an airplane, but hey… As you astutely pointed out, it’s a captive audience situation.

QOTD: Nothing worth noting for myself, though my mother has taken advantage of the wine options on transatlantic flights. She’s not particularly fond of flying, so on a 9 hour flight, she’s glad to have the wine as a way to relax (not as much for the actual taste of the wine in that case).

Whatever Gary, whatever. That wine is BS and we all know it and you rated it correctly. Best drink on a plane would be Budweiser, they cant screw it up!!

My girlfriend and I have traveled a lot in the last 4 years and I tend to go for low volume, high impact drinks on the plane. I seem to prefer gin and tonics. I only every drink them when we travel.

Good show. I’ve never had the guts to try airplane wine. Their food is so bad, I didn’t want to risk it with vino.

  • I think that wine tasting on a plane might be a little unfair (on the wine). Due to the thinness of the air, aren’t your senses of smell (thus taste) hampered? I thought that was the reason they pack so much salt and enhancers into air plane food.

I really only drink 3 things on a plane. 1) water – best way to stay safe from those nasty airborn bugs. 2) ginger ale – I don’t know why, I don’t drink it at home but there you go. 3) Aa bigass mocha, usually from the ubiquitous starbucks.
None of these are incredibly interesting or special, just routine probably subconsciously comforting drinks.

  • Good show, but even if yer on a plane, bring a little more Thunder!? No worries, just tell em you’re taping a WineLibrary TV episode, they’ll understand. Hey, did you have someone sitting next to you leave so you could do the taping?

    Still loving the quick episodes!
QOTD: About 5 beers on that 50 minute trip from Boston to Montreal.
But the 20 bloody mary’s that I had waiting in the terminal for the plane ride home was amazing. I think they make it was Calamata Juice or Clamata Juice..

Hilarious. I love the spontaneous pairing with honey-roasted peanuts. Too bad you weren’t on a JetBlue flight, they have several choices for wine and not your standard Vendange stuff.

Continuing to bring the thunder! Great job, next you’ll have to do a show on a submarine 🙂 Had a pretty good Merlot from Washington on a Horizon flight to Portland once, but don’t remember what it was. Keep on surprizing us Gary, you rock!

  • Hi Gary

    Great and quite funny show.
    Liked your plastic tasting cup.

Best wine I had on plane was Fetzer Cabernet Sauvignon on a British Airways flight from London to Miami.
    A) that was just right for the food
    B) it was plenty and free 😉

SAS Business class, Copenhagen to Chicago, they had great wine choices. I think I had a New Zealand Pinot noir that was really good, but with all the ice cream I could eat and booze I could drink, everything blurred together. That was a really great flight.

  • QOTD: on an Air New Zealand flight, economy, they poured Amisfield pinot noir – like a $25-30 bottle here. It was fantastic!

Gary, clever, cynical little show that worked very well. Catching a buzz at 30,000 feet is always fun but the hangover is not worth it. QOTD- The 2004 white Bordeaux, Tour de Mirambeau served for ” free ” on a British Airways flight in business class that went down way too easily. This may be the only wine I’ve had on a plane, only beer a few times.

Excellent episode! Very cool sort of “hip pocket” feel. Kind of like we’re traveling with you. Went from hotel to airplane..what’s next, at dinner? It’s another level of transparency. We like it.
QOTD: Bacardi & Coke (sorry I’m limited in my experience)
