I would love to sit next to GV on a plane ride. I could talk to him for hours.
QOTD: Ginger Ale everytime.

  • A dumb Rhine king

    That was great.

I’ve never had a decent drink or food on a plane.

  • Quality

  • Brian in YYC

Dom Perignon (Singapore Airlines, First Class – damn sweet).

  • Lurker for a while – first comment!
Awesome show Gary! Love the airplane style, also you should totally hit up Aureole wine bar in Mandalay Bay if you haven’t already. They have a 3 story wine vault where women repel up and down to grab the bottle of wine you want. Totally cool.
QOFT: Drinking a plane dry of everything they had on a flight from San Diego to Hong Kong. A group of 36 of us were on a college study abroad to China and we made the most of free drinks! The flight attendant were finally like “We have no more!!”

  • Haha TSA must love you. Great dedication though. Thanks for not leaving us hanging bro!

  • Gary – I’ll turn the question you asked right back at you! I know you have probably had several first class flights across the Atlantic and Pacific (as I have), which certainly avail you of excellent, world class wines that you’re used to at fine restaurants. Of course, there are bound to be taste differences at pressure vessel altitudes equivalent to 8,000 feet. What was the best wine/flight/airline you’ve had at altitude? And what was it paired with?

  • Kevin C

OK, glad I don’t do all those airplane rides any more. I have had wine on a plane but it was totally forgetable although now with more screwtops in play, you could probably bust it out of your carry on bag

  • The peanut crumbs raining down cracked me up. Love it.

I flew home from a business trip with a friend a few years ago and we drank screwdrivers on the plane, so I think that was the best drink on a plane. Of course, the fact that I had good company helped tremendously.

    Safe travels!

  • That was a ton of fun, Gary. The wine can be secondary to you and it still be a wine show.

QOTD: Don’t think I’ve ever bought wine on an airplane. I’ll go with a can of bloody mary mix.

QOTD: the thought of any alcohol on a plane makes me sick. Ginger Ale all the way. Thanks for the show!

Qantas had a decent red in February! Couldn’t tell you what it was, but it was Australian and a little overly fruity – which I consider a plus as fair as airplane wine. 🙂

  • So Awesome! It would have been so great to be on that plane. I wonder what all of the others were thiking on there.

QOTD: I usually just get club soda on a plane, but I did have a Black Butte porter from Deschuttes one time. I’ve had that beer many times and it’s totally fine. For some reason, on that plane/flight, it was really good.

  • AUSSIE SAMMY S

    MATE…you are a champion…

Love the short format show on the plane…..that was great. Typical mediocre plane-wine, but it was good to see what the plane-peeps are drinking when the’re flying all over the place.

QOTD…Prolly have to go with a half-dozen bloody Mary’s on a flight from Melbourne to LA

  • Doc P

    Coke, i think
    interesting venue

was that first class or coach?

    QOTD: Jack Daniels.

I have never understood why spirits are so much better than the wine selections….and I have never understood why people would waaaayyy overpay for vino of dubious distinction

HAHAHA! that was great!! Thanks garyv YOU bring the thunder mate!!

  • terroirist

QOTD- I roll with Dewers on the rocks when I fly.

Nice to see you do a very elevated show.

That would be cool if you ended up on a few episodes of the TV show LOST. With a few cases of wine to liven up that crazy show.

    “Hi, I am Hurly.”

“I am GARY VAY-NER-CHUK! I just saw a POLAR- BEAR!”

  • mrpat56

Interesting show!!! First time you didn’t spit the first taste. The wine sounds better than expected, but still not good. Deserved to be spit out!!!!
I usually don’t drink while flying, BUT— on a flight home from Ireland just after “911” I got bumped up to first class on Aer Lingus. I wish I could name all of the wines they served with the filet mignon & braised rack of lamb, but they served some very good bordeaux from the paulliac region. Maybe I should go again and drink less to remember the name!!!

  • Adrian Taylor

Awesome tidbit. I only came of (US) age last year, so I’d be interested in trying whatever wine is being offered, however good or awful.

QOTD: A very gin-heavy G + T on Singapore Air. Definitely an active pursuit to knock the passengers out early on.

Now that… was great! Way to go GV.

  • Brilliant show, Gary!

There’s nothing like some “fresh” conditioned air!

QOTD: Peach juice. Yep, peach juice. Delicious. 🙂

  • Pete G

Well considering how unfunny the college humor episode was, this more
than makes up for it. In fact I think you should have a running once-a-month
in flight tasting episode. Then at the end of the year see who is the
the big winner – the airline with the best wines and the best airline wine.
    Think about it. . . .

QOTD: Never drink on a plane. Too busy sleeping.

  • Omar L.

Hey gary, WOW nice video. I thought you never were going to do a video on a airplane but I most admit it’s cool video.

QOTD: I alway like the orange juice, I don’t know why but taste different
on the airplane than on the ground.

  • Edward Salonia

    From the plane, fun stuff.

QOTD: Nothing fancy, probably coke or mineral water.

Best drink on an airplane was the bourbon (Maker’s Mark) that I brought on (when you could bring liquids on plane of course).
