Classic, brilliant Gary, (as always with these blind tastings). Features the most extreme reaction to a wine ever. Hilarious.

just wanted to apologize to jake and amir for calling them jerk offs and telling them to get a job on your blog.

their show is pretty funny and the episode with them makes a lot more sense after checking out their videos. . … my bad.

California State University, Chico! Where, if they made a wine, you’d never get a taste because it would all be drunk before it ever got to the bottle!

  • I think its 15 minutes of fame mr. Ner-Chuck. ; )
    just kidding.

super pumped for the book deal! can’t wait to see you in my local bookstore. I’ll be snatchin’ that one up faster than a new calvin and hobbes anthology (and thats pretty fast)!

Anyways came home for the weekend which meant I could drink the parents wine. Had some Chianti. Tried smelling/tasting – got nothin’. Clearly I need some training. But it’s a start.

    A start…

    Finally, question of the day:
Ryerson University in Toronto (I’m a Canadian), Second Year, studying New Media. Whatever that is 😉 Guess it’s my favourite since they took me haha!

Yeah, I was with Mike O until I realized you were just doing cow colleges. If you’d wanted to taste real wine, you’d go for ’04 Fresno State Petite Syrah–the best PS in California (except maybe Green and Red)

Great show! Haven’t had a college wine before, myself.

My favorite school is Baylor University! Proud they’ve done so well this year in the NIT (guys) and NCAA (girls) tourneys!

Unfortunately for a wine lover, Baylor being Baptist doesn’t have any sort of alcohol related programs, so no chance for wine making classes there.

Cool Episode! Big props to WA state and the two college wineries on this show from WA.

QOTD: Western Washington University and Univeristy of Nebraska as I attended both. For schools I didn’t attend, Harvard and Notre Dame just because they are Harvard and Notre Dame.

  • Stew from IU

Indiana University. I’d have to agree with Jim in Atlanta. The winery in Bloomington, Indiana (GO Hoosiers!!!), Oliver Winery, is definitely worth trying if you ever do another college wine episode.

  • This is a brilliant show. Love the brutal honesty. I feel sorry for the wineries, but as you said it’s just one (expert who people trust’s) palette. Tough to see Hacksaw Jim Duggan make an appearance on the Thunder Show! One thing that would have been cool would be to show a 10 second (slo-mo?) replay of your comments after the unveilings. Great show. Loved it man. Thanks for
    Chris Baker. @schneidermike

  • Gary, I thought your flavor descriptions were great today! even if the wines weren’t that great, you described them in such a way that I could really imagine the taste or smell of the wine, like the duct tape! altho I’m not sure what anger tastes like….

QOTD: University of Delaware and UC Irvine. I went to both and I dont know if I could really pick, I love each one for different reasons.

    Heyyyyyyy GV,
I finally watched the Jake and Amir show. I was avoiding it due to the negative comments then remembered I still have a mind and opinion of my own at 50 years old.
It wasn’t all that bad. Not one of your greats but I didn’t feel I’ve wasted my time.
I think there are some wine snob spies bashing your blog. Really! That’s were those comments came from.
Beware GV, they are out there and slamming your blog.
Come on people… open your mind as well as that bottle.

  • Brutal reviews this episode. Didn’t see a Pennsylvania or North Carolina wine in the mix so only one final four. Picked UNC to win it all because they are almost in my backyard but University of Texas is my alma mater so I root for them.

Okay, I’m bummed because I’m a Michigan native and I got my masters at MSU, but it was still pretty hilarious how you laid into that wine. I go tasting in Michigan when I go home and see my folks. There is some decent stuff in the Traverse City area, but overall, it is pretty brutal. Great show, Michigan is a great place no matter what anyone says, but maybe not for Bordeaux blend or whatever that was.
