line of the day – ‘It’s like appreciating a good looking guy’

Really good guest…in fact possibly a bit too good for GV’s liking. His knowledge and tasting notes seemed to be right up there with our man’s, and for that reason there was a subtle undertone of ‘I’m the boss around here’ running throughout the episode. Don’t worry Gary, we know you’re da man!

i love gary v…talk about sub conscious actions..if this guy slaps his thigh one more time…i m like 2 minutes in and its in double digits now…hahahahaha

  • Great show, and props to the guest!

I’m also 22, super-into wine (I run a tasting club at my school), and am graduating this year.

Way to bring the CKC knowledge!

    Great show. Awesome guest!

QOTD 1 NO! Though this guest should make another appearance at some point.

QOTD 2 Bright, complex feels young for its 26 years and going through something of a closed “dumb” phase at the moment. Try again in 5 years and will hopefully have integrated and opened up. Should age for 50-70 years. Maybe longer!

QOTD#2: I am definitely a single variety since i am easily recognizable and true to myself. I am a variety with a french origin that certainly can adapt easily in any wine growing conditions around the world. High intensity on the nose with a great bouquet. Spices, pepper, i am certainly a Sirah. The first nose invites the guest to drink. The mouth completes the first positive impression: one sip and you want to finish the glass; One glass and you want to finish the bottle. Smooth tannins, nice mouthfeel, balance, fruit and some oakiness but well integrated. Lenghts. A wine you want to keep and remember. I am meant to be drunk among friends, on any occasion, just for the pleasure. Certainly a great wine to taste side by side with a great New Jersey Cab; Maybe one day…

As much as I enjoy the interviews with highly knowledgeable industry insiders, I love these interested but not necessarily as knowledgeable guests.

QOTD1: This is the cult of personality. I’t can’t be anyone but GV on WLTV (although Sasha would be close 😉 ). It is not that none else can do a wine show, but anyone else doing it would not be WLTV.

QOTD2: I’ve never been able to do this for wine so no chance for myself 🙂

Great guest, young buck but definitely crushing it.
Gotta go find that Meyer. Also, that reminds me, take an over-oaked, big Chard and squeeze a Meyer lemon into it and see something awesome happen!

    QOTD: J CRUSH!!

  • Riesling is always touted as the next big thing in Australia, but they have been saying that for years now. The Australian palate just wants a cold drink at the end of the day and flavour is just getting in the way of that! It is a shame as Riesling and Gewortz are two of my favourite white wines.

QOTD #1: Zac, get your own show buddy boy!!

QOTD #2: Light, straw/hay colour with a tinge of brown hair, musky, cloves with a sweet core of black and red fruits on the nose. On the palate is an interesting mix of sweet and savoury, light and dark, anger and softness. This wine may not age well, so enjoy life and drink it by the truck load!

(you can just call me fives)

Hey Gary! Long time lurker here at wltv, and this is my first post!

QOTD1: Gotta say I truly enjoyed Zach as a guest but Im not too keen on him being the “backup host” of wltv.
HOWEVER, I think it would be really cool to introduce some kind of recurring guest/co-host thing. You know someone to bounce ideas and jokes off of and definitely someone to act as a second palette. For this I think Zach could be good, but I think Ian has truly deserved spot. Maybe it could be a weekly thing, like Wednesdays with Ian.

QOTD2: A whole lot of poop.

I sure hope Gary doesn’t read this just because my name is his favorite number. . .

    Gary,

How about doing a show with some wines that offer sick value…such as Columbia Crest Two Vines Vineyard 10 Red (6 bones).

Or perhaps a blind Malbec showdown….with around a $19 price tizz-ag. That would be sweet.

Just a few suggestions. Do enjoy the show.

    Best,

    Greer

Yeah, it is refreshing to hear what 20-somethings have to say, and Zach seems to know his stuff. I love wines of Alsace but it’s interesting that both its main grapes, riesling and gewurtztraminer, are from somewhere else. While watching, I was sipping a “Traminer aromatico” from Tramin (within the political boundaries of Italy but culturally still the Südtirol) and knoshing dolmas doused with lemon juice. Italian gewürztraminer is drier than Alsatian, but still has the spice of the grape.

QOTD 1: It’s gotta be Gary. As he and posters pointed out, he has the flip cam, and I like the short hotel room shows for a change of pace.

QOTD 2: Can be drunk with pleasure now, but will improve with age (a rip-off of Hugh Johnson, author of one of those wine books that are still a bit better than most web content).

Q#1 – no, I’d rather see a 5 minute on the road episode

Q#2 – lean and angular with sharp acidity but fully expected to round out and soften over the years; well worth the investment (if you can find it)

Qotd #1: I think with the way the show has grown, to have someone step in would derail the show from its course slightly.

Qotd #2: Great at any year but best to enjoy sooner than later. Noticed to bring a lot of anticipation and new ideas to the wine world. At first glance, has a very attractive appeal, and when brought out, has a complexity that is enjoyed throughout the night. This one stands out amongst others on the list. (93 points)

I would really like to taste that reisling but the price scares me off.

QOTD 1 How about someone on weekends only?

qotd #2….hmmmm definately a blend, 60 percent english, 20 percent irish and 20 percent german.Very mellow throughout, with a sarcastic twist from time to time.Nice QPR for under 15 bones, but drink now.

QOTD #1 No guest host., but a spoof every now and then is pretty good.

    Gary,

Great show and great guest!!!! I just want to thank Zack for letting the wine world know that we are out there. I am also a 22 year old that will be graduating in a month, and it is hard for me to be taken seriously in the wine community where I live. I have been preaching the Vayniac way to all that will listen, and forcing it on a few that wont. You know, fighting the fight and changing the wine world Gary!

QOTD 1: The flipcam makes it unnecessary but I?d be in to it. However it would just make more sense for Zack to do a video blog of his own.

QOTD 2: With a sniffy sniff, the nose brings pomegranate and cranberry with a mild hint of black tea, leather and tobacco leaf. Take a whirl and sensations of approachable wit with nuances of cedar smoke envelop the mouth with an enjoyable viscosity. A mid-pallet of deep red and black berries marinated in sarcasm evolves into a long friendly finish of fertile earth. Cellar this 86 vintage, only time can tell the thunder this wine will bring!

I’ve been catching your show for about a month now and it’s time to stop the lurking; here goes…

Qotd 1: I’m twenty and appreciate the younger guest. I definitely watch the show because of Gary’s passionate approach but Zach should make another appearance sometime in the near future.

Qotd 2: I’d be a younger vintage Cali white with lots of acidity in the back end

Really good show again. Great guest!
QOTD 1: I think the “on the road” shows are really great!
QOTD 2: Great golden color (like my hair). Complex for the young age but definitley needs a few years aging! 😉

QotD1: Honestly, don’t think so. It might be worth a shot in a smaller format [like say, one wine, not 3] to see what happens.

QotD2: A bit closed to start, but opens up once it warms up a little. Would be perfect on the porch with a cigar. Deep with some really interesting flavors, not all of them pleasant. Pretty dry. May take forever to [and may never] mature, but has the potential to be quite outstanding.

QOTD 1: I certainly wouldn’t mind seeing more of Kristen Cusato of KUSI. (And, yes, I like her nose – it’s definitely working for me!)

    VIDEO: Baseball / Wine Pairing
Gary Vaynerchuk was in the KUSI San Diego studio, to talk about the best wines to drink while munching at a Padres game.

Thanks for the great show. I love Alsatian wine. I do think that you’re rarely going to find that acidity you’re looking for in riper versions of gewurtztraminer, even from the Alsace. That’s something I’m trying to accept myself that I think keeps me from liking the variety as much as I want to.

qotd1: no, but I like the flip cam episodes

qotd2: focused and driven but a bit reticent to reveal myself until I get to know someone

    hey Chicago represent!
Bears fan here. great guest, young serious into wine, and willing to learn and have something to add to the show. Maybe i should work on a wine store. hehehehe.
I am relatively new to wines, read somewhere that most wine drinkers dont like reislings, but sommeliers and wine experts put reisling as one of their top choices of wine.i guest i am not part of the majority because i love reislings and gerwutz. GV, ever tried Fezter reisling or gerwutz. good value. everyday white? you think? or could u recommend something better?

    qotd1: nope… this the GARY V SHOW!!!
qotd2: tight up front, quite closed on the nose, needs a little swirl and a little exposure to air before the true aroma comes out, spicy and sweet but with a little edge and hint of acid, with a long finish that remains on your palate way after the bottle is finished. drink now but would definitely improve along the way. there’s always room for improvement.

kudos again for a great show!!!

QOTD 1: I like your road shows. NO guest stars please.

QOTD 2: Not very complex, yet versatile and enjoyable, probably too sweet for most palates, and definitely gets better with age.
