Great show! I am a manager at a local liquor store, and have to explain the whole absinthe thing all the time. Man I get tired of hearing stories about how fellow college students (I’m a CKC) “tripped balls” on the stuff, when I know they didn’t. Just another thing more people need to be informed about.

And what do Absinthe, root beer and my favorite Douros have in common? Anise, it’s all about the anise!

Gary, great show with a great guest, thanks for expanding our pals! I’d love to see a root beer and a tea show.

    QOTD: Indonesia?

  • Great episode Gary! I just recently got into absinthe myself. We don’t have much variety here in Quebec though. I had no idea there could so much variation.

I think some of the guests have been lacking lately, but this one was a home run. Great show.

  • Gary, my absolute favorite episode ever!! I’ve had many of Ted Breaux’s absinthes, as well as a few Spanish and Swiss bottles. Great stuff!

QOTD – Canada, but only because I looked it up.

  • Elias

Very good show! I really liked the guest. Don’t like absinth I am afraid, but liked the facts

  • big_al

Brian, you really know your stuff. Very informative show. Don’t think I am going to run out and buy a bottle but I look forward to trying it in the near future.

Speaking of Canada, that’s where I live. Sadly in my province, Newfoundland, one can only buy Absente. Since products with grande wormwood is not allowed to be sold here, so no Absinthe for me until I hop over to Nova Scotia in a few months.

I didn’t know absinthe was legal again. May need to try it. I’m DEFINITELY getting an absinthe spoon to see if my father-in-law can guess what it is.

QOTD – Canadia (mis-spelled on purpose)

  • So is ALL Czech absinthe crap? I was given some in Prague with instructions to set the sugar cube on fire and stir it in, so I don’t know if they were being authentically Czech or just touristy. Didn’t taste like vodka though.

Great show! I had it a couple times and I’d say it makes you kind of goofy. In a good way. Can’t wait to get goofy again.

  • Great show! Really enjoyed the guest. He was very informative. You also did a better job of letting him speak. I too bust in with questions sometimes, but since you don’t edit I agree you might need to bite your tongue every once in a while.

I’ll admit I tried Absinth recently and also fell for the whole college story that it was illegal and would make you hallucinate and of course it didn’t do anything like that. Although I didn’t really care for the taste either. Maybe I need to try one of the brands from the show.

Great show though and keep up the great work.

Bravo, Brian and GV. On my bar is Vincent Van Gogh, French, 110 proof. Got it in Philly or NYC for about $42, but that was several years ago.

I also like Pernod, Pastis, and remember that my parents’ bar had some Fernet Branca as a variation on the above. I keep low proof anisette for an occasional treat in after dinner coffee with cream. Better than dessert – I’m not a sweet tooth guy. Likewise, out of a bottle of Absinthe, which we only rarely have, and usally never more than one, I’ll only rarer, still, add a touch of sugar. 3- 4 parts water, and an ice cube per part absinthe.

Ted Breaux’s Jade is excellent! Rock on, brah!

Great show really enjoyed the content. He was really good at explaining. You should try an “outside the box” show once a month or something.

I’ve always been intrigued by the history of Absinthe, so this show rocked my socks!

QOTD: I think this is a trick question, so I’m guessing Australia.
