    How about a Chartreuse show?

And you guys didn’t mention it as a GREAT cooking ingredient. I love mussels with licorice flave, butter, shallots, and fresh, sweet herb, like dill, tarragon, or basil (with or w/ out a little chive).

The best I ever had was brought from Spain by these beautiful twins who used to be in my band. It was in a real art glass cruet looking bottle, 500mL, labelless, and as I recall, was a bit more golden looking, like Chartreuse (I love), or Strega. They shared it with at a party, and as the three of us were the only ones to get a second shot of it, I remember my friends took my car keys (and my car) and left me there. Jealous, no doubt, but good times!….

Excellent episode. My growing love for wine and the nuances of tasting the different flavors actually helped turn me on to Absinthe. I am not a big fan of anise, but I love how it mixes with the different herbal flavors of absinthe. I would love to see more shows on absinthe!

  • Excellent educational store. Another “quiz of the day” not so much a question to ellicit thought and feedback.

Answer: Our neighbor to the north, Canada. They have so many nooks and crannies due to the glacial thaw.

Talk about a long prep time, don’t know if I can wait that long…very cool though. Thanks for the simple syrup authorization too.

  • Thanks for the education. I love to learn about things I’ve never heard of. I eat a lot of fennel and black licorice so this is an absolute play in my book.

I want to go to DRAFT DAY with you and Mott! (will there be a secret pack?)

QOTD: About.com said it was Canada.

Great episode. I really enjoy absinthe, even after a really wonky first experience with it in my youth. A nice little treat. Might get some for my birthday on Thursday.

I have bottles of unlabeled Absinthe named “Rêve Lucide” which is the french for “Lucid Dream”. It is incredible.

I’m not sure if it’s the same stuff or not, but about 30 years ago when I was in Japan, I had something I thought was called absence…..and the next day, I thought they named it that because it gave me absence of memory of the night before….They had said it was illegal in the U.S., so I’ll assume it was the same stuff..To spend 50 bucks for a bottle, prolly out of my price range.. but theres always a dollar and a dream…

Just found the thunder show and am loving it. Your passion is contagious. I am a home wine maker, making from fruit when in season and kits when not in season. Wonder if you could test some wines made from the various kits available like Vintners Reserve, Crushendo, etc….talk about value play. Would like to see your take on these kits.

Great show, love this stuff. Sadly haven’t had too much of the “green fairy” besides when I was out in San Fran, as the local stores here in DC don’t carry anything other than the one with vango on the cover and the “le tourment”, but now I might have to look for a bottle or two online.

QOTD: Don’t really know, but I would tend to think Canada.5

  • Very cool show. Always nice to see something new being tasted. I’ve never tried Absinthe, but will be head to France this summer. Maybe it’s time for somthing new.

    QOTD: Canada: Thank you Google.com

  • Well, it seems as though everyone has answered Canada for the QOTD but I would much rather say that this was a wicked episode Gary. Way to go, enlightening us about the finer nuances of Absinthe.

I too love anise and I have been a big fan of Pernod for years. A very inexpensive substitute for those who can’t get their hands on the real deal.

Thank you, thank you, thank you. I’ve been waiting for an absinthe show since the first WLTV episode I watched (three years ago.) The show went along at a great pace, the guest was knowledgeable and comfortable. I was hoping you were going to try the absinthe produced here in Portland, but I can wait until the next time. Gary, methinks you like the absinthe!

Wow, this was fluggin’ awesome. Super educational in an area I had ABSOLUTELY NO knowledge of. I’ve only had absinthe twice before and the purpose of drinking it wasn’t to understand the subtleties. In fact, I don’t remember much of anything I did those 2 times. I’m definitely going to have to look into getting my hands on some and trying it out myself.

  • QOTD: Canada, no matter what others may say. Not watered down, even with some sugar added.
