    Awesome show. The first time I saw Wayne play was for the Soo Greyhounds in the late 70’s before he went to the WHA. I was about 11 or 12 at the time. Later saw him play many times with the Oilers whenever they would visit Winnipeg, where I lived when I was in high school. Great memories. I miss going to see games back in Canada. You can’t beat the fans there.

    Second…….. Wayne Gretzky!
    Ranks with the greatest of all time.
    Because I find football, basketball, and certainly baseball, not very interesting; my sports life is centered around tennis, golf, soccer, and oh yeah…….hockey. Particularly at this time of the year.
    Could not agree more with his comments regarding the man in goal.
    Case in point………the Caps, (last night against the Rangers).
    Still time though………

    QOTD: The Yankees will win. It was great to hear Wayne and you mention the Canucks. Luongo will take our team to the Stanley Cup. When Vancouver hoists the cup over their heads I think it would be awesome for Gary to tape an episode of WLTV with the team and drink wine from Lord Stanley. Wayne, I remember when you were on Alan Thickes talk show in Vancouver in the 1980’s.

    Great show. He doesn’t seem to be much into the sniffy sniff. One thing… you mentioned a little rubber action in the Riesling and I thought you were going to reference a hockey puck, yet you described it as a bmx skid mark. Oh well.

  • Great show Gary. I think its interesting when celebrities like Wayne demonstrate a diversity of interest aside from their main line of work. It definitely makes them more accessible. For Wayne’s wine, going on WLTV works to authenticate it more than a traditional TV-blurb would. Gary’s brand is authentic, and through it Wayne’s taste for quality becomes much more so.

    Great stuff, gotta try the wine!

I recently coached high school hockey and always used Gretzky quotes in my locker room talks. Easily my favorite athlete ever and thats saying something since I’m from the land of Favre.

There are so many stupid things a former athlete can do with his money, but putting Canadian wines on more wine lists and getting Americans to give them a shot is definitely one of the best I can think of. Wayne, couldn’t agree more about Steve Nash. Gary, way to drop some knowledge. This is definitely going to be the episode I show to people who are new to wine and your program from now on.

    QOTD: I predict a Mets-style meltdown. The Yankees do not make the playoffs. This is the toughest division in baseball and they will collapse under the pressure!
