line of the day – ‘the amount of tropical fruit that has been going down my pipehole lately has been shocking’

Great episode. GV starting to get a bit cocky, but that suits this episode. The guest was really knowledgeable and the final wine was a monster. Even Mott had some decent input! Nice one.

The reason Condrieu is “over-priced” is that it is such a small AOC.. and there is so little to go around.

Long time lurker (sorry) first time poster. I’ve never tried a viognier but I think I’ll get one with my next wine purchase. Though I’m just starting to expand my palate and determine what I like, this episode is why I watch your show. I’m a part of the ckc and for me money is very tight, so when I see you drinking something that sounds appealing to me it helps me decide what to spend my cash on. I’m considering the 2006 Foundry for the next warm weather day here.
P.S. there’s nothing wrong with Donkey Kong refrences, I’ve felt the same way drinking cheap Merlot.

Very cool episode. Great to see there is much to hopeful about in the under 30 crowd.
I will seek out the mag and the 2005 Texier Condrieu Jeanrode.

  • Alan,

It was great meeting you. Good job. I will be in touch.

QOTD, I would love for you to lambaste and continue to stay on the control states where a few bureacrats choose for the masses what beers, wines and liquors their cititzens can buy. Pennsylvania, can you hear me?

How did this guy manage to be a sommelier for Gordon Ramsay and not be able to name one of the twenty Conrieu producers he said they had ?

    A wine/drink magazine by a 26 year old…wow. Nice show once again.
QOTD: I’m really interested in how grapes are nurtured into wine, how they are grown.

Alan has done all this stuff in 3 years? You REALLY are looking more and more like a slacker 🙂

QOTD: I just subscribed and would like “Newbie” & “Nerd” columns side by side so that you could pick your level easily. You could probably have some fun with it setting up competitions (all rigged, of course)between the two groups.

I went straight to the website to subscribe for Mutineer Mag. I’ve been looking for a magazine like this for a loooong time. I subscribe/have subscribed to Cigar Aficionado, Wine Spectator, Bon Appetit, Gourmet…I’m a bit of a magazine junkie…but this looks like it could be my new go to for learning about the beverage industry (of which I am into all facets).
Gary…the last wine was out of my price point but your exitement makes me want to splurge…if you can answer this one question for me. How long will it last?

    Gary AMAZING show great guest!!!!!!!!!!!!
I’m with you on wide receiver(..maybe not? give Clowney a chance?) but I dunno Gary. Many are saying Josh Freeman. Lets just hope he’s not on the board by the Jets pick. We need to give Clemens are fair chance. No quarterback could have done better with the crap o-line he played with in 07. If Clemens starts and leon washington gets more touches, the jets WILL be unstoppable

QOTD: haven’t looked at the mag yet but will asap!

You two worked well together on camera and I wish Alan the best with his magazine. He definitely has the right attitude about it and sounds like he has the chops as well.

  • Are you kidding me, Alan? This guy was AWESOME, knew what was up with the vino and ALSO a Seahawks fan? Too good to be true, that’s the best guest you’ve had on the show, Gary!

  • Great episode, the magazine sounds very cool and I plan on subscribing. Gary, you totally destroyed the guy when it came to being a Seahawks “fan.” I love it. Definitely going to try and find that Viogner you rated 95. My company had a great one from Sicily actually but some giant importer stole them from us, oh well.

John Ferrin has a good idea…I think a newbie column would be a great idea. It’s very daunting getting into the wine world, and something tailored towards the beginner would be nice to see.
