  • Gosh, these are really good shows even if the newbs and rookies can’t stay up to watch. Good stuff and you’re right, I’ve never had a Late Harvest Viognier but since the “V” is one of my favorite whites (along with the Vayner man) I will definitely procur some very soon.

QOTD #1: Alcyone from Uruguay (you should try it)

QOTD #2: Mott or should I say “Chris” is more than awesome. I was fortunate enough to meet him and he is quite the gentleman and I’m sure you know how lucky you are to have him by your side.

The next QOTD should be: “Boy or Girl and name?” I’ll start by saying “Girl/Lara” from Dr Zhivago

P.S. Thank goodness you said “Erase, erase” when it comes to #8 Cal Ripken though nothing surprises me anymore.

Since you’re quasi-grooming Mott with every glass anyway, I’d really like to see an episode with MOTT as your guest. Have Eric handle production for one last shebang so Mott can sit in the hotseat, GV, whadda u say?

Yay for the ‘Vermont action’! Even if NYPete does make fun of it… insert wink emoticon here…and an eye roll for good measure… 😀

QOTD 1: Can’t remember the name or the varietal, only that it was at the March tasting group. Too late at night to hunt for the list. In 2cnd would be a Warre’s Otima 10 yr tawny.
QOTD 2: Awesome just doesn’t cover it. You should, however, always listen to him.

QOTD: 2007 Anakena Single Vineyard Late Harvest Muscat Viognier. I really liked it, it was my first foray into dessert wines and is spreading among my CKC friends.
QOTD2: Mott is all sorts of awesome and should put on the show while GV is off for parental leave!

  • QOTD: 2007 En Sante Green Envy – an alfalfa wine. Yes. Alfalfa wine. Have you ever expanded your palate in that direction?!? Do I have one on ya?!?!! http://kevinkossowan.blogspot.com/2009/04/2007-en-sante-winery-green-envy.html

  • QOTD – Inniskillin Dark Horse Ice Riesling. Oh! And I had a late harvest viognier with dessert after a Caymus tasting dinner with a bunch of ladies but I was too tipsy at that point to remember what the heck it was. I know it came with lemon gelato inside a carved out lemon, wearing a little lemon hat. Lemon hat>late harvest viognier, in terms of memorability while inebriated.

QOTD: We brought back some dessert wine from Virginia for our sweet-lovin’ friends. Our favorite was from Kluge Estates–a Viognier-based wine aged in Jack Daniels barrels. Quite tasty–and I’m not a big dessert wine fan.

Very solid episode with the sweet wines (remember: sweet wine, not dessert wine)…best sweet wine this year was a Fonseca 20 Year Tawny…caramel, spices galore, and a little orange rind and smokiness! Mott is the man…we need to see more shots of him sippin Dom P or maybe upgrade to Krug!

  • GV:
Good luck to Eric at Etsy. I like Viognier’s viscosity and have never had it as a dessert wine. I was suprised to hear that the ones you tried were not thick. They sound delicious.

QOTD: We just had an 03′ Topaz Late Harvest, AND Mott is VERY awesome (like you had to ask?)

PS: Nitty, Nitty, Nitty, Nitty, Nitty, Nitty, Gritty Time. Best wishes to you and Lizzy!

QOTD 1: ’89 Rieussec with a ’99 Inniskillin Vidal Ice Wine a close second.

QOTD 2: Mott takes “awesome” to a whole new level.

Best of luck to Erik Kastner!

  • Hi Gary,
its time to thank you for pumping out nearly 700 Episodes. I think i watched them all.

QOTD: Best Dessertwine 2009 i had? Hm, will be the D’Arenberg Noble Riesling 2006 (Australia, McLaren Vale). Dried Apricots for days, fine accidity, very aromatic, not just sticky and sweet. And of course Moot is awesom

  • SCOTTYL

QOTD-’07 Kesselstatt Scharfberger Spatlese, which had one of the best sugar/acid balances I have ever come across. Not a true dessert wine but I like rieslings as my after dinner beverage.

  • Awesome episode as usual. My Vayniac buds and I are betting on when you’re going to get THE call!

Best dessert wine of 2009? Totally unfair I guess, but I drank a 67′ Yquem last month in celebration of getting a new job. Was planning on saving it, but life is too short and I refuse to be the dude who dies with a cellar of unopened treasures!

I can only describe it like kissing the Pope; it was rare indulgence that may only come along once in a lifetime! Liquid gold.

  • Just found your site a week and a half ago and love it. I love your energy and passion! Amazing!!!

I’m dying to try that second wine; your description of it was awesome.

QOTD: 1. Nothing memorable; 2. I assume ‘awesome’!

Praying that your wife has a quick, easy delivery. 🙂

that second wine sounds delicious, i doubt i could find it though.

qotd: i’m a big dessert wine drinker, so i have a few to choose from. my favorite so far this year is actually one that i have open right now, the hardy’s whiskers blake tawny. for a wine at 18% abv, it is so smooth and holds the alcohol so well, and for only about $10 US, it’s a great deal. i would love to see you do it, and some other tawny ports on the show – they’re some of my absolute favorite wines.
