Good show, good guest. I love the way GV says to the guy (who is German) -‘does your grandfather bust your chops?’ and is surprised when the guy doesn’t understand the question…..
Somehow I doubt whether ‘bust your chops’ is in the German/English phrase book.

Very entertaining. Had me laughing and enjoying the chatter.

I’m scared, though, that this devout beer drinker is growing interested in wine. That’s a habit I cannot afford!

    Keep them coming!

  • You may not get a lot of feedback on that QOTD, but anyway props to GV for keeping it real and bashing Fritz.

I will have to try German Riesling again soon. Lost my taste for them years ago but am open to revisiting.

QOTD: The winemaker at Cliff Lede, Michelle Edwards is hot. She makes awesome Cabs as well. http://cliffledevineyards.com/profiles/view_profile/2

Thoroughly enjoyed this episode. I love German Rieslings (especially dry ones) and it was very fun to watch! Maybe because my answer to the QOTD is:

    Yes! (Well, this one anyway.)

  • I can seldom if ever buy the wines GV tastes on the show, so no biggie here.

QOTD: I think the idea is sexy but that in actuality it likely depends a WHOLE lot on who’s talkin’ bout who.

Has he already been in Seattle or is he on the way? Would love to check it out if there will be a public tasting at a wine store.

    Enjoyed your young guest.
But Gary! You kept cutting the poor guy off. Your enthusiastic rapid fire questioning barely let him get a word in edgewise.

QOTD: Definitely. And your guest was a little hottie.

Thanks again for a great show.

    Great Episode Gary,

Laughing still regarding the Bleep on the cuss word.
    Enjoyed the guest.

Sorry, Home late from work, Can’t think of anything witty

The guest was great! I don’t understand the (few) negative comments at all.

  • Great show Gary, not bad at all.

It was interesting to hear from an up-and-coming German winemaker.

Maybe in a few years he’ll be the German Mark Herold!

  • Jordan

Great to see a young winemaker killing the game with some dry riesling. Acidity keeps you coming back for more wine and food to go with it.

  • OH, I forgot to mention how much I love the idea of a class in Germany called “Wine knowledge for posers”. Thats too funny.

  • Don

Gary – interesting point about the high scores for sweeter German Rieslings driving the sales and price points. I’ve definitely enjoyed the dryer Rieslings I’ve had and was curious why they’re so much cheaper… Now I know and knowing is half the battle (G.I. Joe)

Looking forward to seeing you on Jimmy Fallon on Wednesday, great stuff!!!

Would love to see more episodes on German riesling – seems like there is significant quality out there at reasonable prices.

Did you see that coward Brett Favre on Joe Buck’s new show tonight? Nearly punched out my tv….what a fraud.

There’s a big Vayniac offline down in DC this Thursday…you make a plug for it, and I’ll send you a Vayniac wristband.

QOTD: From what I’ve seen …Yes. He looks a little like a young Kevin Bacon.

Thought you kept the Claudia Springs open for a few days and were going to taste it again on this show???being that it was listed. Do you have the Kabinett available?

Sorry GV…today’s episode was pretty boring. Your guest was pretty obnoxious and pretty damn full of himself. He has nothing on your last German guest, the Sommelier. He was pure awesome.

QOTD: Wow… do I really have to answer this? Well, if I ever get to work in the cellar to make wine I hope that the ladies will answer “yes” to this question after tasting my wine, and I do find female wine makers sexy if they know what they are doing and are passionate about their job, so my answer here is a resounding “YES!”

Hi Gary. As much as I looove german rieslings, I really dislike ‘the guy’ (more ‘the kid’). I hope I can try some of his wines soon, and see if there’s anything in his defense.
Thanks for the episode – I really think people outside of Germany have to try more of Riesling and build their own opinion – though I’m pretty sure they would love most of them.

    Cheers from Barcelona,
    Agnieszka

  • Cool to see an episode with a sort of “shout out” to the military! I’m stationed in Germany (not at Spangdahlem, but still) and have enjoyed tasting the local wines! I’m due to rotate back to the U.S. soon, where it will be hard to find the Dornfelders and Trollingers I’ve come to enjoy, but it’s good to know I may be able to find a few Rieslings and Kabinetts.

BTW, I live south of the Mosel Valley in Stuttgart, where the Baden-Wuerttemburg vintners are showcased every August at the Stuttgarter Weindorf (or wine village). Perhaps some day Gary will do a live WineLibrary TV Thunder Show from the wine village…

    teri 🙂
