line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

Episode #701…Since every new episode you pump out is really amazing especially when you just hit 700.

  • Congrats Gary on 700; is it just me or was another bad videotape used? (may be the connection too) Nonetheless its about content not the polish.

Love the box in the chair, let it talk next time.

QOTD: When I watched #182 for the first time, I never laughed so hard. But I have to say #636 for a simple reason: You gave me a shout-out so I have to love that!

Just glad to be along for the ride.

  • Bummer that these didn’t show that well. But cool on episode 700!

QOTD: There are many, actually… tops for me would be #182, just because it’s hilarious, but also 193, the Corvina episode, as it was the episode I sent you the idea for in email and you did every wine I suggested the following day. Ahh back in the days when you still responded to the emails I sent… 😉

Congrats on 700 GV! You and I are very similar in the baseball card aspect of collecting wine. 1988 was the first time I looked in my Beckett price guide and saw that even before he stepped on the field that Greg Jefferies’ cards were like 5 bucks already while everyone else was about 2. So i tried to collect as many of his Fleer cards as possible. The great part about wine collecting though is you can drink it! Can’t eat cardboard!

Thank you for all the knowledge and the fun over the past 700 episodes!

    Congrats on 700! Looking forward to the big 1000 in another 300 episodes ;~}

QoTD: That’s a hard one … I think I have to go with the episode where you tried the community-college wine (490, it looks like); your face when tasting the wine was *priceless* :~D

  • StevenV

Toss up–655 or 182. The wine knowledge you’ve shared is fantastic, but your ability to share in an entertaining fashion keeps alot of us coming back.

Man, I can’t find the number, but the one with you outside in the sleet always cracks me up! Also the one where you tried all the different flavors is a classic.

Nice job, Gary, and congratulations on Episode #700. While the shouts outs were nice, what about those of us Vayniacs who have been with you since the beginning and continue to comment on almost every episode? How about showing us some love? 😉

QOTD: #148 is STILL my all-time favorite, although anything with Sasha is great!

Gary, the first episode I saw and the one that hooked me was #20-(old vs. new world). It was the only time someone talked about wine on both sides of the fence and not just from their ,usualy bias, point of view. I have seen all of your fine and one or two less than fine works, while I may not agree with your view on all wines and topics you bring out the thought, history and the enjoyment which IS what wine is all about. Please keep it up so we can get our fixes.

GV, this is the second time you’ve mentioned compote and I remember a while bakc you having a hard time remebering the name for a type of juice. Was I right all those episodes ago? I love hearing you mention that tasty, real juice with peices of fruit floating in it. It’s a reference that really works for me. Thanks.

qotd: I’ve loved so many episodes, but the one that leaps to mind, for it’s educational content it the mezcal episode. #641. Jancis Robinson and Randall Graham come in close too.

Gary, congratulations on 700, thanks for all the great episodes. Here’s to another 700 (300?).

QOTD: 500 – cus I was there. Now I’m back in Seattle, and hope I get a chance to attend a taping here as well:) (Yeah, that’s a hint).

It must be amazing for you to sit back and think about how the show started and where it’s taken you.

    Cheers.

“I am an excitable character!” Truer words have never been spoken.

Thanks for making it to 700 episodes, we’re rooting for at least 300 more.

QOTD: A tough one. Both (were there more than two?) episodes with Sasha (love that guy), the one where you poured the whole bottle of wine in the big ass glass for no apparent reason, the one where you made your own blend from different bottles, the Jancis Robinson episode, the Wayne Gretzky episode… we could go on and on…

You were so violent when you poured the Burgundy. Your shaking up the sediment! When you pour old bottles, you should pour them slowly so that you don’t get cloudy sediment in your glass.

Gary, i’m a long-time viewer, first time commentor … and I hope you see this note/request, prompted by your Oak-monster drive-by tongue-mugging with the Harrison Cab … you made an interesting observation about your concerns with the mid-90s Cali cabs and the use of new french oak. I’m very intrigued by that and would love to see an episode where you tackle this head on by tasting a number of mid-90s cabs–high-end, low-end, high-rated, unrated–to see how they’re aging.

i own several of the really cult-y mailing-list cabs that are coming out these days, and many are also new-oak wines. so i’m curious if the new vintages will face the same results a decade from now.

Congrats Gary Vee! My favorite is the one in which you didn’t even try any wines – just a bunch of food. I think I peed a little bit when your tongue went numb from the white clove!

I also loved the ones where you seemed to be breaking away from what some outside influences wanted you to do. Specifically when you looked directly into the camera and told us all to stop buying Rosemont Shiraz. You go, Vaynerchuk!

  • QUE

Haven’t seen them all but watched a lot and 655 had me falling off my chair laughing!

Hiya Gary, most memorable episode: the one where you went shopping for all the groceries and ate hot peppers and dirt among other things. Keep up the excellent work!

  • Claus

Killer 700th episode. Bringing the Thunder, as pretty much every time. Thanks, thanks, thanks!
QOTD: most memorable episode – the very first one I saw a few years back when I realized that this is something veery different! I love the educational ones, like when you went on a field trip to show wine cellars…learned a lot over the years. Thanks again!

Happy 700! Thanks for the many fine memories. I’m so glad you and Mott will find a way to get to #1k 🙂

Cool show. I could see the copper on the 88 before you said it and I would have guessed it’d be cloudy. Proves I have be learning something.

I can’t really know for sure the exact favorite show because it depends on my mood. Sometimes you like a wine more one day than the next. One of my favorites is #365. I was introduced to Valpolicella. After seeing that I bought some of the 05 Zardini, twice. Great for the $.
