line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

    Congrats on 700!
I’ve been a lurker for some time, but I wanted to say thanks for all the great shows. I’ve enjoyed everything from the educational wine nerdy shows to the straight up entertaining shows. The Other 46 show was hilarious!

QOTD: #500 @ Crushpad. The energy was insane, the crowd was insane, you were insane, and the setting was insane. You also introduced me to the idea of Crushpad, and I really want to make a barrel of wine with them one year when the budget allows.

Any chance we can get some Central Coast love on the Thunder Show, though? 700 episodes and 1656 wines in, and ONLY ONE Monterey wine and ONLY THREE Santa Barbara wines?!?! That’s just wrong.

Hey GV, you shouldn’t do any more shows until there are at least 700 comments here – people need to step up!

  • I loved the fact that you told us the truth that the 1994 Harrison Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon wasn’t any good. So many people will try and save face on something that should be avoided. Great review!

QOTD EPS#660 with Wayne Gretzky. Go Edmonton!…. Wait I’m a Flames fan! ^_^

    Dear Gary,

Loved the episode. Wine changes so unexpected sometimes. I noticed that except some dessertwines (Rivesaltes), you haven’t done a show about the Roussillon region ! There fantastic wines ! Try the appl. Fitou (Domaine Bertrand-Bergé,de la Rocheliere) and appl. Collouire. You will we shocked !

Great! back to the old format. Just you and the wine. I enjoyed the times you have had quests ,especially your father, but not as much as above. when you get to be my age aging wine could become problematic in ten or twenty years.

QOTD episode 583,Blind tasting zinfadels as it changed my perception of this wine.

    Gary,

you are really getting to the point when you say some of us like the shows with nothing but you and the wine best!

QOTD: #589 and the ones with your dad. The two of you are just a fun team.

    Go for the 1000

QOTD-I do not have numbers but for me most memorable was the expand your pallet food episode where you ate everything under the sun. Thanks for all you do. #2 would be the Brunello episode.

do you have nightmares about tree monsters?
This wine may have confirmed some of YOUR worst fears about the OAK monster. Some of us love the oak. Most of the big critics love it. I never heard of a wine that was over oaked till you mentioned it once or twice. Maybe you should see someone about this little problem you have. 94.7 percent of wine is drank the day it is bought.
This show was good, but after the big tease and the non episode, I thought you could at least find some decent wine.
I’ll still be watching at episode 7000. Do folks wearing the Oakmonster shirts love oak or hate it?

Just a few weeks ago I loved the episode with the Anderson Valley Pinot. It was #688 with Claudia Springs. The Two Buck Vaynerchuk was a classic. And I don’t the episode or anything but there was one were a wine was described as being the same as nailing some fruit on a tree and and taking vodka shots. I’m fairly new to the show but at that moment I was hooked on the energy, honesty and enthusiasm.

I’ve commented on just about every one of the last 600+ episodes, and you KNOW I wouldn’t miss this one! I only wish I was home to comment in the lower digits because I know that these latter comments can easily get lost. HOWEVER:

QOTD: The most memorable episode for me was probably #562 when you gave me a shout out at the end of the episode after noticing that I began commenting again. I went on vacation for three weeks, and came home and watched EVERY episode that I had missed, and commented (very late) on each one. Thanks for noticing, and for keeping the free comment flowing for so long. I look forward to the next time our paths cross soon.

AS FOR FAVORITE EPISODE BASED ON CONTENT:
I’d have to go with either of the “Sir Gary Vaynerchuk” Eps. Hilarious and classic! Here’s to as many more shows as you can manage: cheers, sir.

    Congratulation for 700 Episodes GV.

QOTD: It was Episode 605 with the master sommelier Hendrik Thoma. I read the wineworld magazin with an interview of you. This show was mentioned in the magazin with a link to your homepage. Since then, I saw each episode from WLTV. At the weekends, or when no new show is online, I go back to the past episodes.
You show me, that it is not necessary to look at Points or recommendations.
Try new things and trust your own palate.

Thank you Gary for getting the message out “Not all “CULT” wine from California are great Value”. I have been saying this for years and teach this in my classes.

QOTD: #148 would love to see an updated version with “NEW” Tastings now that your palate has mature.

I can’t believe you’re up to 700!!! I haven’t been around from the beginning, but pretty darn close and you’ve always managed to stay fresh and deliver us amazing FREE content! Thank you for all the work you AND mott put into the show… truly the wine world will never be the same. I for one have expanded my palate far beyond what I ever dreamed of and it never would’ve happened w/o your constant pestering to do so lol.

QOTD: #277 is one of my fav’s. My wife buys me a handful of the MD’s every year since they came out in 06 so this episode had some sentimental value for me. Also the one with your Dad was CLASSIC and also the train your palate one is a huge success 🙂

  • MaRc

Just great! I’m sure you’ll make it to epi 1000…just don’t stop there!

QOTD: cant fully remember the number, but it was the one where you expanded your palate by tasting everything!!! i really did laughed ny head off that one!

    cheers, gary!

QOTD: Enjoy any of the Sasha as guest (I really mean co-host) episodes. Love the interplay of the two passions at once, wine and family.

Thank you for all the knowledge. Your shows are sneaky that way . . . kind of a “I was so entertained I didn’t even realize I was learning” effect.

    Peace
