line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

  • QOTD: Favorite ep? Gotta be #136. Not because the wines were interesting (they were – it was a review of Patricia Green Pinots), but it was the first appearance of the now iconic JETS bucket!!!

Congrats Gary. Here’s to 700 more!

  • Well done – the ‘stick to what you do well’ idea was a good one.
I’m a little shocked to hear that cali cabs can go there – I have a friend that has a bunch in cellar…yikes.

QOTD: I always have an answer for ya, but today I pass – that’s just a really tough question.

I have to say… I can’t recall the exact episode # but, the ones I remember the most are the ones where you taste wines that I can get in Québec. Like the Château Puech-Haut Tête de Bélier which is one of my all time favorite.

Thanks again Gary for all those great tastings

  • Happy 700! QOTD: i can’t remember the # of the episode, but the one where you are outside in NJ, i think outside your shop, it’s winter, and you are freezing to death, and you are getting pelted by sleet. I really loved that one, i thought you were such a character for doing that, and never giving in and saying i’m a celebrity get me outta here. 😉

  • “Go Ahead Oak!” …Classic!

Good WLTV show, 700 episodes in and it just gets better. This format is actually very versatile.

QOTD: Most memorable is the one with all the food for palate education, Number148. Second memorable is Daniel Schuster’s two part. (Third would be K Vinters’ Charles Smith #549).

QOTD: Has to be #102. I love that episode cause it taught me about ports (my favorite now), and the episode itself was hillarious.

QOTD The first show I watched was #105. I was looking for a review of the Rosenblum Zinfandel and I got excited watching you blast it.

#148 is Epic man. It will and should never be topped. #148 is why I started watching you. #148 taught me that Wine is approachable and what I taste is right!

On another note: it is only appropriate that the Oak Monster showed up in #700. That dude is classic. Great way to end it.

Looking forward to 700 more (or at least 300.(: )

  • Right way to end #700 … if wine is bad, no matter the price, name or episode number – call it what it is. We love that.

Everything best and wishes for many more zeros in episode numbers. We support you and will understand few missing here and there now that the most important Misha is in the picture.

    QOTD: Any brown bag episode.

Nice work, Gary! 700 is an amazing milestone.

QOTD: so many great episodes, but #549 with Charles Smith of K Vintners and you talking about wine. No frills, just serious wine guys who both love life.

Congrats on 700! I’ve only been around since early this year, but I’ve gone deep into the archives and watched a lot of old episodes that have taught me quite a bit about wine. Favorite episode may be the first one I saw with your dad as the guest.
