line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

GV, that was a GREAT way to end this show. Nothing could be a better example of why we love to watch. You give your honest opinion every time, even when it’s inconvenient.

QOTD: 182 – had been watching for a couple for months, but you in a tshir in freezing temps, one I’ll never forget. My favorite episode though as probably the Nicolas Joly interviews

    Congrats on the big 700.

QOTD: Many are classic like Charles Smith and almost any with Sasha, but 182 with the wind almost blowing the glass of wine off of the ice covered table is my alltime fav.

  • QOTD: #500 out here in S.F. was quite memorable (& crowded), but I’ll go with the first one I watched, #97 with the hideous green backdrop and the equally hideous horizontal purple striped shirt.

  • Dagger!!!!! Wowwww, my feelings have been crushed like a grape. I have seen EVERY ONE of your shows, left comments on at least 90% or more, bought your books, all of your wristbands, tons of wine, vintage Stinkor from England, attended winery dinners where you are the featured guest, book signings and on top of that I have a bromance for you. How many can claim that? And this is because I participate very little on the forums? 🙁

As an FYI, I’m not watching WLTV every single evening for the forums! I watch it for your reviews of wine, your guests, for letting us be a part of your family, your quirkiness, your dedication to your craft and the list goes on and on. Unfortunately, your only vice is being a Jets fan but you can’t help that. Today feels like 1969 all over again. (Colts vs Jets & Orioles vs Mets)

Truly, congrats on your 700th episode. A long road that has been alot of fun and has enlightened my wine world. Thank YOU!

    QOTD: The trifecta is:
    #692 Your Dad (Father’s Day)
    #564 Randall Grahm
    #679 Portugal

    Cheers!

Thank you Gary for expanding my wine world for 700 episodes!!

Awesome show, I hope you keep wine educating us all forever!!

QOTD: My most memorable show is the #223. So much in fact, that I prized myself with a bottle of Angelus. Some day I?m going to review that show again myself!! Now It’s the 4th time I’ve watched this show, and every time I get jealous of you. 😉 One awesome wine and all those incredible cheeses! And that prediction was solid: 2005 Bordeaux changed completely the price point range.

I think it’s time for another Cheese & Wine Show!

Best wishes for you, your Dad, Lizzie, Misha and Mr. Mott.

    700!!! go GV!!!

QOTD: Episode 569, the Chablis episode, which was the first one I ever saw

  • QOTD: Hard to pick just one. Maybe the Trader Joe’s/Charles Shaw ep.
    That was hilariously entertaining.

  • Michael Steele

I really still love the episode where you tasted outside in the middle of winter. And the bottles kept getting blown off the table. Must’ve been about 12 degrees and funny as hell!

  • California Cab Lover

So glad to see there may be 300 more!

QOTD: Any with Sasha and I really did like the one in the snow in your parking lot.

Great show, glad to confirm the over-oaking instincts with a vintage that otherwise should be stellar today. Perhaps my favorite show was with N. Joly, or with Richard Betts (both). Looking forward to the next 300 and many many more (we have you on video committing to Sasha for 25 years of WLTV!)

  • It’s not often you can steal Gary’s thunder, so my most memorable episode is when I did just that as I intro’d Gary in Boston: http://tv.winelibrary.com/2008/06/26/live-thunder-in-boston-episode-493/

Good episode, I felt really bad that the Oak Monster came out in such a big way to ruin the last wine for you 🙁

  • QOTD: 282. when ‘barnyard’ became a big part of the lexicon of my entire group of friends. it also featured this gem: “it does smell a little bit like throw up. you know, classic 3rd grade, somebody ate too much, they threw up in class – that smell.”

Congrats on #700 Gary, great episode. wishing you and mott success on many many more!

  • wha wha whaaaaat? There’s only about 15,000 negative comments to the GV man….but the rest are REALLLLLY good praises. 🙂

That was fun GV….glad to see the mean old forums get some love.

Hoping the next 300 rock the house.

QOTD: #449 about when I first started watching and was inspired to seek out a Greco di Tufo at Coit Liquor in North Beach which sadly has closed. I loved the passion to get serious about a new variety especially one from Italy which I needed to educate myself about. I agree that the basic three wine format with thoughtful analysis of each wine is what makes this show so wonderful and informative. Keep it going for another 300.

  • Hi Gary,

Congratulations on 700 episodes. Who knew it would go this long? Keep up the passion and the show.

I know you generally don’t like Aussie wines, especially the Penfolds line. But what about the other cult wine, Henscke? I think it would be a good show to do a Henscke wine tasting, and hopefully have the Hill of Grace in the show as well.

  • pawncop

Great episode and good information as always, I appreciate your time and effort.

QOTD – Any episode with your dad and/or family. They are top notch and I really appreciate the love and interchange you have with them.

  • Loved when you reviewed the Costco Alexander Valley Cab. I always enjoy when you review wines you don’t sell. I try them to compare to the wines you do sell, Breeds Trust!
I wish you didn’t spit always and could tell us which wines are “angry” wines that inspire arguments, which make you laugh after drinking the bottle and most importantly which will nit give you a headache the next day 😉

great show. Thank you for your dedication and hardwork for us Vayniacs. I’ve been following since just before episode 100. It’s hard to pick one best show, there have been so many exceptional shows. I liked some of the guest shows – Jancis, the biodynamic french guy Joly, Randall. Certainly your Dad’s shows have been enormously entertaining and educational.

  • jason carey

I loved the Grower Champagne episode.
