line of the day – ‘Big blackberry flavours exploding on my nose like a grenade’

Barnstorming episode featuring GV at his best. When he goes on about the nuances of different vintages his knowldege is scary. The visible wince when trying the last wine is classic Gary, and sticking the wooden box on his chair as an Oak Monster substitute made me laugh. A classic.

great show. Thank you for your dedication and hardwork for us Vayniacs. I’ve been following since just before episode 100. It’s hard to pick one best show, there have been so many exceptional shows. I liked some of the guest shows – Jancis, the biodynamic french guy Joly, Randall. Certainly your Dad’s shows have been enormously entertaining and educational.

  • jason carey

I loved the Grower Champagne episode.

QOTD: probably episode #680, but really almost any of the blind tastings, because that’s when I feel you go really deep into the fabric of your wine smarts and in turn I learn more and am enticed to go out and experiment. Too much according to SWDTA (“She Who Does The Accounting”). Congrats on 700. My show…only at 213 but I’m still at it.

    Congrats on #700, GV!

QOTD: Lots of great episodes. Too hard to pick a favorite, so let me say Episode 292. That was the first time I watched WLTV and I have been tuning in ever since.

    Cheers!

I think I officially got hooked at episode 350 – which is now half way – and I’ve watched basically every episode since. Thanks so much for the amazing content, keeping it free and expanding my knowledge (and palate, of course).

QOTD – Most memorable has to be ‘How To Get Your Wine Palate Trained’ #148, followed by ‘A Red Burgundy Tasting: A Spotlight on Gevrey Chambertin’ #531 and ‘Randall Grahm of Bonny Doon Visits the Thunder Show’ ? #563/564

    Keep up the great work!

    HAPPY 700th!

I’m glad to be around to celebrate the dedication Gary V. has had for the last 700 episodes to a subject that is so dear to me.

The idea of having just another episode is a good way of paying tribute to the authenticity of WLTV!

Keep up the great work! Hope to see you around for at least another 300.

QOTD: Though there have been many memorable moments on WLTV, one of my favorites is: A Father?s Day Wine Tasting ? Episode #692. Seeing the love (despite the disagreeing) and the bond between the two, reminded me of my own relationship with my fsther, which to me is a blessing.

    Again, happy 700th!

  • Joe R.

    QOTD- #490

This was the episode with the student-made wine from Oklahoma that knocked Gary’s socks off. It may also have been the first episode I ever saw (hard to remember now, since I’ve gone back and watched so many of the earlier episodes).

QOTD #700!!! I have enjoyed each episode but with this one your reaction to the wines were epic! I got to watch this one with my teenage daughter and she really enjoyed it, too! Keeping her attention is impressive.

  • Hey, GV. Who knew? Thanks for the mention.

QOTD: One of the two eps you did in the driving snow and wind. Not the Champagne ep, which was much later, but the one where you kept catching your glass just before it blew off the icy table! God, that was funny. I also rather liked the ep you did on heat damage to wine. You placed red wine on your store’s roof top and tasted when the temp reached well into triple digits. Very creative. Many eps, if not most, have been quite good and will continue to be, I am sure.

    Happy 700th!

    Great Show! 700 episodes, Thanks!!!!

  • Brian

Congrats on 700, it’s good to see you still goin strong!

My fav episode that I’ve seen would have to be the one where you were outside in some kind of artic snow storm and everything was blowing away. Not the most intellectual episode but it was epic in its own right. Thanks for doing what you do!

  • Congratulations on 700. You speak for me, regarding the “Napa Oak Society” wines!

QOTD: Probably episode #531. This was one devoted entirely to Gevrey-Chambertin. After having a glass of this wine, as a 20 year-old beer-swilling college kid on a cruise with my family, when I suddenly “discovered” wine’s magic, starting my wine journey that has lasted the past 25 years. It was like someone turned a light on!

QOTD: It has to be Episode #425 when I was a guest. It was great to get in there to the store finally after watching from the Original thanksgiving show at your mom’s house. Your staff were great, you were a very gracious host, and I had a blast going through the singles bins in your store where I found my first (and only) bottle of Cayuse.

  • Anonymous

Zenlike. The forums aren’t very inviting. I tried to check them out during the cruise and it was confusing.

  • Great episode Gary, glad to see you brought it back old school. Sorry it ended on a down note, but gotta give you credit for keeping it real.

I think the most memorable for me was http://tv.winelibrary.com/2007/02/14/how-does-the-weather-affect-wine-episode-182/ The dedication displayed there was epic. I’m also a fan of the various episodes on Champagne, especially when I found out it might be your favorite style of wine. It really showed me how it was “ok”, even though that sounds silly, to like it outside of parties and New Years.

Best of luck with the 50,000 things going on in your life, but most importantly, with Misha, Lizzie, and the fam. Happy #700.

episode 380 inspired a trip with my Brother-in-law and Niece to Walla Walla and enjoyment of some fine wine. Maintain the passion and thanks for all the hard work and effort!

Great episode. Quick thought…have you ever considered bringing on a wine critic as a guest? Parker, Tanzer, Miller? Not sure if they’d even be willing to do it but it’d certainly be fascinating. Their old world tasting notes with your new age shenanigans…could be cool.

QOTD: I’m remembering the Charles Smith episode for some reason. He was wacky and his wines rock the hizzy. idk

When’s the next secret pack coming? It’s been a while. Did I miss an episode where you said you’d no longer be doing them?

  • definitely Episode 700. I’ve NEVER, im serious, I’ve NEVER have seen a piece of wood taking over a whole show 😀 I really love your way explaining what you taste. I mean .. the Casper the friendly Ghost – metaphor .. I’m still amused 🙂 Great Effort you did, keep it up! Greetings from Germany. We love you. 300 to go!!

I forgot to say something in my previous comment!

answering to the QOTD, the episode that came right on my mind when you asked us, was ep #148, where, man, you made me laugh so hard!! I also can remember one episode (but I can’t remember the number) where you rated a bacon 98 points, the episode with the cheese bro, the ones with your father, and so many others…oh, and I’m missing some Jets reference, since I’m a fan too!! Hope to see you soon tomorrow with #701!!! cheers from BRZ!!

QOTD – Somewhere between 350 and 400 (May 2008) when you gave a great shout-out to my Illinois Wesleyan University graduating class! I stumbled across this when watching old (to me) episodes because I discovered the show at around 500, which would be my second favorite. I was like, “who the heck is this guy and why is he yelling about Grape Ape and the ‘oak monster’?”

Big G, I’ve been a lurker for so long now I feel like a have to pay to watch ya. LOL
Fun stuff this one and Thank for 700. I’ve been watching since about 140 so I have the pleasure to watch you and the show blossom. Salute my friend.

QOTD: Hate to say it, but I’m a real fan all 700.

  • Congrats Gary! Well done! Keep em coming!

I think the blind Zinfandel tasting was one of my favorites, I’m a huge zinfandel fan.

    Thanks again Gary.
