lines of the day – ‘There’s a little bit of stinkiness going on, like a pig farted on a farm’. and ‘a lot of guys are wearing eyeliner now, Mott’s been rocking it’

Chilean Cab bit of a boring category for me but GV entertaining as usual.

  • Gary, speaking of regions you havent covered in a while, I think you should take a look at Franciacorta from Lombardy. I searched the archives and didnt find any episodes on these delicious sparklers that I believe have good value, (at least in Italy they still do). Oh yeah, if the oak monster is so prominent in the taste, why cant you pick it out on the sniffy sniff?

QOTD: I like to see makeup in certain places if you know what Im sayin…hehe

Good show today, Gary, espically the analogies. It was almost as if I was there in the store tasting the wines as well. There is another analogy that works, if you will allow me to indulge myself. You know whenever a dog goes outside into the yard or to a park or something like that they like to chew on sticks from time to time? Instead of saying that you like to go out and chew on a tree, you could say that you would like to go out and chew on some sticks like a dog does. That may sound stupid or ridiculous, but it does make sense if you think about it. Anyway. Again, good show anyway — looking forward to tomorrow.

Liked the setting – crowd was mellow and quiet which was nice.

Ka-boom. 3 wines in 12 and 1/2 minutes. Gotta pay attention here.
Good show Gary. Love the locals…….Chile, Arizona, etc.
These are wines that even silly little me can afford. Thank you.
QOTD- “Bobby (with an “y”) Tiger? Don’t even go there.

  • Down to earth episode. Sound was a little sketchy but otherwise appreciated the effort. Makeup on a pig is still a pig.

  • Heeeeeee’ssssss baaaacccck! Thank you. I was beginning to worry about you forgetting about us. I missed my Gary fix!

Good show. I’ve had these wines and agree with you 100%. I just wish I could find a nice, complex, smooth cab for less than 30 bones let alone 15-20. They are far and few between though right now I’m on a white wine kick being the summer.

Can you do a show on some nice white South African wines or maybe Sancerre again? I had one last Saturday night which was to die for. How ’bout this: Sancerre, NZ SB and an Aussie SB? And brown bag it.

QOTD: Does hair color count? If so, I do that.

    Cheers!

QOTD: The kind of makeup I like to wear is none, thank you.

Sort of a 100 meter dash of an episode, today, but fun! I like the tasting room.

P.S. – I think Gotsha wants to do your ironing… (jk)

I like to wear green eyeshadow MiMi style (Drew Carey) when I’m out and about.

Great to hear you mention Gene Simmons. I think he could use your wine advice right about now. He signed a deal with a winery in Temecula for Simmons wines but you should get him to Crushpad for Kiss meets the Vayniacs wine label.

    Nice show GV!!!

I like and drink a lot of Chilean wine: Cabs, Merlots, Carmenere and Sauvignon Blanc. The Marques and especially the Montes Alpha are quite often my dad’s Saturday lunch wine. I think they are good and bring value, but I am leaning more to Argentina these days… When went to Chile last year, I had the opportunity to drink a lot of very good stuff: Almaviva (Concha y Toro + Mouton Rothschild) and Clos Apalta (Casa Lapostolle) being the best Chilean wines I?ve tasted so far.

QOTD: No makeup! I even tell my girlfriend no to wear it.
QFGV: Do you reed new comments on old shows GV??? I’ve been reviewing a lot of them recently.
    (Question For Gary V)

Great show and terrific explaination regarding oak and make up. Really enjoyed the KISS analogy.

QOTD – No make up since a junior in high school in the One Act play competition.

    Gary,

Way to include the Chilean wines! I had the Montes Alpha last fall and it was a bit oaky, but probably less so than what you tasted because I decanted it for 2 hours and I think that blew off some heat and softened the oak flavor a bit. I wanna see you taste Primus by Veramonte…to me, it really caught me off guard because it was deliciously right bank Bordeaux style…worth the $15 or so I paid for it, in my opinion.

QOTD: My favorite makeup is eye-black, smeared like war paint (sorry, NFL is just around the corner and I’m loosing focus).

Keep doin your thing. I’ve been watching since ep 50 or so and I always enjoy the thunder.

I like dabbling around in Chile; especially their Carmeners (sp) and Chards. Also, they might not be that bargain basement steal anymore and, like most other wines/regions, you gotta pay to play.

    QOTD: None, nada, nope.

nice to see some Chilean wines on the Thunder Show, spill over to Argentina some time. And to the live audience: thank you for being a good live audience. Those ‘Thunder Cruise’ shows sure were annoying with all of the hollering, but you have renewed my faith in live audiences.

    QOTD: I don’t!

Gary another good show. I truly enjoy Chilean wines especially in the price points the come in at. I can’t say I have not worn makeup since trick or treating as a child. Would love to also see some wines from Argentina on some shows.

    Gary,
I’m not quoting verbatim but you had me at, “smokey pig fart”, mmmm – yummy. I’ll have to pick up a bottle of Concha and calibrate by olfactory/palate to this unique taste/aroma which certainly must be more essence than substance.

QOTD: None that I’d admit to.

Have had a few South American wines but as someone said above, there is something about the terrwaaaa I don’t enjoy enuff to try anymore.
I still think I may be the OAK MONSTER. I’d have to wear a lot of makeup to steal your chicks tho. Have a talk with RP, he’s the one who put all the oak in there. Is it American oak or French oak that pisses you off?

  • “clap!” hahaha

I don’t do makeup, but maybe a beard counts? It makes my chin look bigger.

I was pretty surprised you got even as far as the third wine without the oak monster coming out, chilean reds are very often too oaky for me. It’s a little sad but I sort of associate chile with french oak. So either I’m wrong and I need to drink more chilean wine or I’m right and they need to start listening to you.

I probably won’t be commenting very much for a while since I’m taking the PA bar exam next week and then heading to China for two weeks. So I just wanted to say I hope that the next few shows suck so that I don’t miss anything good. jk. Nothing but love.

How about the Trouble Big Ben is in and how ESPN is not covering it? Strange.

    QTOD: None.

    Hi Gary,
Great show again. I”m with you on the Montes Alpha and thought it was bitter and bland but have enjoyed a Concha y Toro before.
