Great episode; most notable for the worst wine story ever (told by Bryce) and a blossoming bromance between the old and the new. Well worth watching

This was a great episode. A truly remarkable guest. The history that he and other like him represent is priceless.

QOTD – An inexpensive Barolo shared with my son in law on his birthday with my wife, my daughter and granddaughter. Cannot recall the brand nor vintage but a great time had by all.

GV – Terrific Episode – my favorite of all; Brice is his own man – brash yet with humility; tough yet sensitive (when he spoke of his Dad); seemingly fascinating guy – would love to sit and talk with this man for a long while — thank you for having him on and really nice touch thanking him for his service to the country and for changing the ending to note that he had changed the wine world

a most excellent guest! great interview GV!!This is an epic episode so much information I want to watch it again to remember all he said!! Great job!

QOTD: I have two 1) 2005 Valle Realle Montepulciano d’Abruzzi on Feb 23 2008. I met the wine maker and ended up having dinner with him, his wine agent and the manager of a big wine store at a beautiful Italian restaurant. The food, the laughter, the fun was most enjoyable and most memoriable. The wine was seductive and the wine maker was gorgeous! oh and did I mention that it was my birthday! 2) Dec 6, 2009, I just started dating this wonderful man and he was picking me up to go to a champagne tasting it was a Sunday morning and when he came over I had a bottle St. Hilare sparkling chilling in an ice bucket. We had the most beautiful time talking and sharing and then we went to the Champagne tasting 1999 Krug and a 2000 Dom Perignon were being poured, we laughed and realized that we have to make this a tradition and ever since we have enjoyed a bottle of sparkling or champagne every Sunday mornings…its our time to reconnect with each other in our hectic lives and realize why we fell in love with each other! Wine is best shared with loved ones – “a loaf of bread, a bottle of wine and thou”! – my motto!

I think that your interview w/ Brice is my favorite episode yet. I don’t want to “dis” my boys Kevin & Alex (I am a computer, read MAC, nerd too), but this show brought the thunder. Thank you Gary for honoring Brice and his Service to the Country. My favorite bottle was an ’87 Heitz Martha’s vineyard that I presumed was bad because I had moved so much. It was given to me by an owner of a Restaurant I worked for in STL. It was a small group of very close friends, and we had already had some other more expensive wines, and this was opened just to see if it was still ok. It was more than ok, it was magical. We were all speechless. We were not drunk, so that wasn’t it!! But from the first sip to the lingering finish it was awesome. We still joke about how great it was. Thanks for doing what you do, and doing it so passionately. Come to STL, we can have some great vino and great conversation.

Brice is awesome! I am telling you GV, your guest episodes, when they are old time wine pioneers, are THE BEST EPISODES… Hands down. I feel similar to when you had Daniel Schuster on. Except Brice is like the Cali farmer from back in the day that really changed the game. Loved it, and joined the Emeritus mailing list half way through the episode. I am not absolutely in love with burgundian style… yet… but when people have passion for what they are doing like Brice. You know that that passion will be reflected in the product and that is something worth trying.
QOTD: While in Rome with family, my girlfriend and I went out for dinner. The whole time, I was figetting with the engagement ring in my pocket, knowing that I was about to ask a question that would change our lives. Yada yada, we got engaged, she started to cry. We went to a cafe to celebrate, and the owner poured us a bottle of chianti riserva. We laughed and told stories, while smiling from ear to ear, with the owners of this cafe, whom we didn’t know and who barely spoke english. It was the best 6 dollar bottle of wine that I ever had.

  • Gary,
You have great style as an interviewer/national taster. I was captivated by this episode. It sparked an interesting conversation with my husband about restaurant vs. social networking promo..Keep up the good work!!

The very best show ever. I usually prefer a focus on the wines and not the personalities, but your interaction with this guy was fantastic.

  • Gary,
One of the finest shows yet!! I am 47 years old and I can still remember the when I was about 16 years old (1978) and they let me have a glass of wine or two during dinner. One Saturday night I tasted the 1974 Sebastiani Cabernet Sauvignon and I thought this is pretty good stuff. I can still see that in my mind. IN 1980, I went to work for Neil Ashe at Ashe’s Wine & Spirits and today I own the business and it’s because of those Saturday nights when I used to sit around the family table and have a glass of wine with Mom and Dad!

GV: One of your best interviews in terms of style. You did not interrupt and you did not go off on tangents…well done!

QOTD: 1st time tasting Sancerre in Paris, my 10th wedding anniversary pre-theatre Moulin Rouge dinner of a whole turbot. I never heard of Sancerre and to this day we order it for special occasions.

  • FANTASTIC Episode GV! WOW, great guest, your interaction was perfect! Finally! 🙂

QOTD: The best wine I ever had was actually 10 wines that my wife and I shared with Gary and 2 other Vayniacs at Bern’s Steakhouse in Tampa. It was such an intimate, wonderful time I will NEVER forget and every single one of the 10 wines we had that night were awesome. Thanks again GV for such an amazing evening!

QOTD: My husband and I didn’t know much about wine at the time. In 1996 we traveled around France. While in Burgundy we tasted wine in basements. We had no idea of Gevrey Chambertin’s reputation when we were there. Now we always talk about how discovered our love of pinot noir in Gevrey Chambertin.

Recently a friend asked me for a recommendation for a good inexpensive pinot noir. I said there is no such thing. Try spanish garnacha for QPR.

    I enjoyed today’s show. Thanks.

B4 anything else, that dude rocked. He is in my top 5 best guests list. You can feel that he is for real.

QOTD : My favorite is almost always the last. This weekend, with the family in Lincoln City @ the Bay House. Faugéres,Domaine Leon Barral 2004, not only is it my favorite of the moment but my wife says it was the best red wines she has ever had. She loved it and I love her so that makes it pure awesome.

Well this is a funny question – we were just talking about this Saturday night as us CT boys defeated Wine Library’s own Brandon in a double blind tasting no bottle over 100 bucks – he finished last and second last – LOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOLOL – but my best wine did not come there – it was last year at a UCONN football tailgate party – We each brought a bottle from anywhere in the world at under the $50 price point – we had a professional grill – tomatoes and buffalo mozzarella – olive oil fresh! – then several artisan breads – Italian cheeses – and flank steaks on the grill – the temperature was a nice 78 degrees and the skies were blue – we brought the crystal glasses from home which we placed on the marble slab that happened to be in the trunk from remodeling a house – the winning wine and I will say the most enjoyable wine I have ever had was a 2004 Larcis Ducasse it was amazing and the environment was even better!!! Family, Friends, Food, Football and (Wine) – what else is there in the world

  • QOTD: Toss up between a Chinon shared with friends in Paris at a restaurant where we shared the table with other people and had a down home French meal. Lots of food, little oven/fireplace/stove in the corner with onion soup cooking on top that you helped yourself from. Great wine because it went with the heartiest French meal I have ever had and it ended a great day of cafe/pub hopping (yup we found a British pub in honor of our British friend that was with us)and watching our Parisian friend chain smoke all day.

The other is a bottle of what I can only assume was Chianti in Venice. Met some cousins (not mine, they were cousins to each other) early in the day as we exited the train and crossed paths again later in the day while we were looking for dinner. We bought pizza at a little restaurant and they broke out a Magnum they bought earlier in the day. The waiter took it in the back to uncork it for us and came out laughing with the screw cap in his hand. Awesome wine, great dinner, and will definitely remember both of these bottles for the rest of my life.

QOTD: My wedding night, after the reception. My wife and I were surprised with a bottle of ’95 La Grand Dame waiting for us in our room. The wine was excellent….but anything would’ve been amazing at that moment. The fact that the wine was a surprise and the moment sent the experience over the edge! Again, wonderful show!

GREAT Show Gary, one the best so far. He’s what the real wine world is about and a great ambassador for Sonoma County. I can’t think of anyone from Napa who would be as cool as Brice!

QOTD: My favorite wine(s) were a set of three for my 30th birthday. My girlfriend surprised me with a party at our local wine shop. I walked in thinking we were picking up her credit card (which she supposedly left earlier while shopping). What I picked up was my entire group of friends plus these three beauties.

30 years old and 30 years of wine.

    1. 1978 Borgogno Barolo Riserva
    2. 1988 Chateau Leoville Las Cases Saint-Julien
    3. 1998 Oddero Barbaresco

Great wines + Great Company. I’m in Heaven!

  • Great guest, probably my favorite so far if not just because of his personality ? someone you’d definitely want to spend a day with and listen to.

QOTD: Enjoying Avalon’s contribution to Cabernet at the moment, recently shared a bottle with my mom and sister ? good times were had.
