Gavi is a completely new varietal to me. Never even heard of it. But now I’ll probably see it everywhere.

Gary, I have no idea where you get the asparagus in the Villa Sparina, but I totally agree with your overall evaluation of the structure and quality. I have been a fan of this wine for several vintages (though I think there might have been one in there that wasn’t as good) and the ’07 has made me just as happy as I expected. I thought it was hilarious that you made up your own fruit for a descriptor. I have come to expect that kind of thing from you (purple paint?), but, frankly, I don’t think it helps anyone else to understand your thoughts of the wine. I appreciated your heartfelt thanks at the end of the episode. Thank you for providing so many shows that are so interesting to me, and even for those few that are not.

qotd: chenin blanc from the Loire valley — I am drinking a fantastic Savennieres right now and am thinking about the range of styles (bone dry to dessert with plenty in between) from several appelations that are so underappreciated. I guess I’m glad in a way that only a few of these wines, and mostly the sweet ones, have received enough attention from the major press to ask for high prices.
