Very lackluster show, it really can make or break an episode having a good guest especially after the last one Brice Jones who such a top notch guest.

He seems to better suited in front of the computer rather than in front of the camera. He’s prob a alright bloke but hasn’t got that necessary zing.

QOTD: Olives, Prusruito(if I’m being fancy) or just salami

  • Weird show man. I wanted to grab that Shaya verdejo and book it. Creepy guest.

    QOTD. pepperoni…nah..onions.

My wife and myself have been enjoying watching the WLTV most nights before bed the last few months. We try to plough through 2-3 episodes most nights. i think my wife is getting a VaynerCrush…hehe.

    love the burgundy episodes.

    cheers from Canada,

Not my favorite show, but it is hard to follow Brice I guess. The concept of doing a pizza wine pairing show was a good idea and I would like to see you try it again.

I wasn’t sure what the question of the day was, but I think you were going to ask what our favorite pizza topping is. I am a pizza purist. I like the traditional pizza from Napoli (Naples) Italy, the pizza margherita. I like it thin and juicy with very little toppings.

Good show man! Not sure why some of the hate? a lot of it seems purely based on the team of choice? either way, enjoyed the show and guest, and now I want some pizza, and some wine!

This ranks as one of the stranger videos I have watched on WLTV. I really didn’t get that any of the wines were that good with pizza and pizza without cheese is pisallederie not pizza. If the pizza is really good it doesn’t need toppings. I have yet to have a cheap Pinot grigio that is good. Few less expensive Oregon Pinot Gris seem to work about the same.

Well, that was weird, for me. Your guest seemed like a nice man, and I would have loved to hear him talk more about Pizza. Instead, he sat there and watched you try some wine. I don’t know how he got on the show. I don’t know why he was in the show. I also think you were running these questions through your head during the tasting. Were you in a rush? Did he prepare anything interesting to present on the show?

Almost seemed like you were annoyed that he wasn’t adding anything, annoyed that he knew ZERO about wine, annoyed that when he started talking it was to plug his web developers to the vaniacs, and annoyed with his question.

Your QOTD – spinach and pepperoni

    My QOTD –

  • Phil G

my QOTD – WHY DIDN’T THE GUEST HAVE ANY WINE???

First Of all I love your show. I am a student of the Culinary Institute of America in Hyde Park NY which is great because we take classes on wine and there are lots of great surrounding vineyards in the area. This episode unparticular got me thinking about eating pizza in my dorm room back at school where I used to brew my own mead under my dorm room bed. I would love to see an episode on mead and see what you have to say on the subject.

  • Can’t believe no mention of THE BIG STORY
Ninety bones to buy a pizza for a suite at the new JerryWorld (Cowboys’ new stadium). $90 bucks!
It’s almost as if Jerry is testing what the limit is and then he’ll scale back. So far no need to.

Maybe that’s not even news in NYC. After all it cost over 2 Grand for a front row seat to the Yankees. Oh, wait. They are doing half off – only $1350 or some such nonsense.

Love that you try new things. Didn’t turn out great but it was different.

Did you see Neftali Feliz get a lesson in the Bigs! Rookie can’t throw cheese down the middle. Even if it is 97-100 mph. Welcome to THE SHOW. A’s 7 Rangers 5. He’s going to be good though. 90 mph change

  • You never went back to the SXSW story of why he was on the show…..

QOTD: BACON is the best pizza topping period IMO. When I dont have just BACON and nothing else then sometimes I’ll include any or all of the following: pineapple, red onion, and chicken for the best topping combination.

Oy vays mir with the guests. First the blowhard projet jockey, now this.
Why must your guests always be such self-serving smoke blowers?
This dude thinks he looks boyish, alas that lycra-looking thatch on top of his head says the contrary.
And not tasting wine on a wine-tasting show is just weird.
In short, to put it in language your guest would understand, the carpet didn’t match the grapes.

Gary, I agree with Chris maloy about following Brice as I don’t even remember Mr Pizza no pizzaz real name nor do I care to watch that episode again to find out. He blew like a miami dolphins blow hole!!

Like a bad wine this episode I had to “work through”.

QOTD- My favorite topping would be that cheese you picked off. mmmmm unwanted geevee cheese.

No offence to your guest or yourself.

    Hug and kiss.

Worst pizza.com seems like a pretty negative thing for you to be supporting Gary. Why not make a Best Pizza.com? Anyone can point out negative things, but is this really something we need? If you don’t like it Craig, then don’t eat it. Obviously someone likes those pizzas if the places are still in business. Who wins when you just talk about what sucks?

  • South African Chenin Blancs – that’s exactely my opinion. But they also make some VERY decent stuff there, like Ken Forrester. And by the way: Bruwer Raats (from Raats) would not like to hear that you call his wines “cheap” and “Pinot Grigio” ;). He is one of the best Chenin Blanc-producers of the country.

QOTD: BBQ-sauce, minced meat, bacon, onions and mozzarella.

Weird show but I think I liked it. Lapp, let us know in the comments what are the worst pizza characteristics to you. Then maybe we’ll go to your site.
qotd Half Hawaiian and half combo. Can I get some real Canadian bacon?
My friends 8 year old daughter rips the topping off her pizza but I think she’ll grow out of it.

Gary, love the show. I have been a dedicated viewer for the last year and a half, and today I found out I passed my test to be a sommelier with the International Sommelier Guild. I just wanted to thank you for your show, it was a great study aid, and so glad to see that someone like yourself can always bring the thunder. Your love of wine and enthusiasm for expanding your viewers knowledge and palates is refreshing to see. With a little help from you, I pledge to continue to change the wine world. P.S. as a Canadian I must say I am a hard core Hockey fan. Loved the Gretzky episode, please try to get Mario on your show for he is a true lover of wine.

    Cheers, Calgarygreg.

Even Jordan had an off game. When you do 5 shows per week and don’t edit these things happen.

Miss Harry is great wine. Very well balanced and silky on the palate with nice meaty and red fruit complexity. I agree with an 88.. Torquey has no clue)

I’ve watched from episode 1 to this one and have commented on most of them. So, I have nothing but the maddest of love and respect for this show and you and everyone at Wine Lib. But, damn dawgie you didn’t even let homie talk about pizza. I don’t mind if he doesn’t drink; that’s cool. But I was all amped about hearing a pizza guru talk about the history, the culture, the different cheeses (had a little teaser when he mentioned his special blend of cheeses), crusts, ovens, sauces, and so on. Please, I beg of you. Have that guest back on and give him time to educate us.

So we know that Shaya went with a particular pizza but what were the components of that pizza that made it work? How can we make educated matches at pizza restaurants (if the joint doesn’t know their wine) or at home if we don’t know about the pie? I know it’s easy to armchair direct and like I said I rep the Vaynernation, but there needs to be a serious pizza wine show in the works, pronto.

Oh, topping: anchovies, a million different shrooms and olives, sun dried tomato, red onions and a very light layer of 4 cheeses: mozzarella, ricotta, parmigiana regiano and Gorgonzola.

  • Not a lot of info in this show, all filler. What made that guy a “pizza expert?” He was just some jobber from Florida to me. And Gary, your eating habits are disgusting, throwing crust and cheese all over the table!

Stop talking with pizza in your mouth. I thought, oh this episode will be cool. Pizza, wine, what could be better? But really man, I had to stop because you kept talking with pizza in your mouth.
